With lasagne I would serve…

Family over later. I’ve made a lasagne which I’m sure is big enough but I’m a feeder & like to know everyone has been well fed so now I’m not so sure there’s enough of it!
Any suggestions as to what else I can put on the table so everyone leaves feeling full? I’ve got the usual salad and garlic bread.

Thank you

That's plenty IMO. If you need extra carbs maybe be less stingy with your portions of lasagne.

I wouldn't want lasagne and garlic bread and chips. Too stodgy.

maldivemoment · 06/11/2022 09:21

Seems the jury’s out re chips/wedges!

Theres a few kids too so I’ll
maybe put a bowl of wedges on the table. (Apologies if I’ve committed a carb laden sin!)

thanks again. 👍🏻

Broccoli

Salad and garlic bread is more than enough and a classic but if in doubt some easy Italian side dishes:

roasted Mediterranean Veg with plenty of garlic (add potatoes if you fancy triple carbs!)

steamed green beans tossed in pesto (an even easier option is to just drain a couple of cans of cannellini beans and mix some pesto in. Add finely chopped red onion and tomato if you like. Filling, tasty and cheap!)

Baked aubergine slices topped with some garlic passatta, mozzarella and basil

hassleback courgettes and aubergines (these look amazing if you alternate sliced tomatoes and mozzarella in the gaps)

roasted butternut or pumpkin wedges with sage, rosemary - nice to add hazelnuts or roasted pumpkin seeds for crunch

baked breaded garlic mushrooms

Salad and garlic bread

but I’d be happy with garden peas and chips

HerReputationMadeItDifficultToProceed · 06/11/2022 09:26

A nice salad.

BarrelOfOtters · 06/11/2022 09:27

Doesn’t need it but I’d be delighted to see some chips, wedges or little rosemary roasted potatoes.

Floraflower3 · 06/11/2022 09:41

I cannot believe the number of people that have lasagna and coleslaw 🤢

defi · 06/11/2022 09:42

I'd put a selection of sides out for people to
Mix and match. Salad, wedges, chips, mash, veg.

orangeisthenewpuce · 06/11/2022 09:44

My lasagne has mushrooms and onions in it so is just served with garlic bread. I make enormous lasagna so everyone has enough and there are leftovers

RampantIvy · 06/11/2022 09:47

I love your ideas @WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay. Is the dandelion bean dish served as a salad?

RampantIvy · 06/11/2022 09:48

Blooming auto correct!
Canneloni beans.

I have a xenophobic kindle

Marylou62 · 06/11/2022 09:48

Ha ha...Our adult children are coming over today with their partners for 'Sunday lunch'.. Three huge 6ft + builders, and our pregnant DD as well as two DILs..

DD asked for 'Mums Lasagna' and 'those curried potatoes'. (new potatoes tossed in Korma paste and baked...) Everyone will pick at the potatoes before the Lasagna is out of the oven..
It will be served with a huge salad, garlic bread and potatoes if there are any left!
Oh..and chocolate brownie with raspberries and cream...
Right..I've got to get off MN and crack on...although I made the sauce yesterday as I love it the next day ..

These sound delicious!
I’m trying the bean thing with leftover chicken tomorrow.

Thanks @RampantIvy 😀

I serve the pesto cannellini beans cold as a salad. You can add things like roasted peppers to make it more special but it it lovely on its own! Squeeze of lemon and extra virgin olive oil doesn’t go amiss.

If using the steamed green beans I serve it as a hot veg dish.

WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay · 06/11/2022 09:58

@lightisnotwhite i hope you enjoy it!! I absolutely love beans so am a big fan.

Tinytortilla · 06/11/2022 09:58

We always have crushed roasted new potatoes with ours, I don’t care about double carbs!

TheDogsMother · 06/11/2022 10:05

Did someone say peas and carrots ???? Definitely not chips, too carby. Garlic bread and salad please. What time do you want us there 🤣

Rina66 · 06/11/2022 10:07

Lasagna Sunday lunch is a big favourite here too.

I do mine with little roasted potatoes - skin on, cut in to quarters, microwaved for 15 mins then put in hot olive oil, tossed and sprinkled with M & S roast potato seasoning and oven baked for 45 mins, serve with sour cream.

Home made coleslaw with mustard and honey added

Italian salad with Pizza Express dressing

Roasted red onion and cheese flat breads (Aldi, haven't seen them for ages though)

Hazelnut and caramel panna cotta for desert

BCBird · 06/11/2022 10:07

I wouldn't serve garlic bread, just a massive salad. Mind u if you usually serve garlic bread I would do it or yiu might have mutiny in your hands🤣

Suedomin · 06/11/2022 10:08

What you are serving is what I would serve perhaps do another another more substantial salad and or some roasted Mediterranean veg if you feel you need more.

Snugglemonkey · 06/11/2022 10:09

I don't know why anyone would want jacket potatoes, mash etc with lasagne, but we all have our own preferences. Hosting is all about accomodating! I like salad, but if I were making it for guests I would do garlic bread, coleslaw and potato wedges too as people like them.

I might put out some olives, charcuterie, mixed antipasti and some bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar for people to nibble on weas a starter.

I am not a dessert person, I would rather eat more savoury stuff, but I know some people don't consider a meal complete without a sweet thing. So I would make something in wee ramekins like a lemon posset and have a cheeseboard with walnuts, celery and apple.

Hopefully that would please everyone!

Givemeallthegin8 · 06/11/2022 10:12

I always do lasagne when I have family over , nice and easy !
I always have a cut up French stick and butter out, salad with mozzarella and tomato, garlic bread and some bruschetta ( another quick & easy thing to make!) I add some breadsticks on the table too - though generally only the kids eat them
serve them a portion of lasagna and then they help themselves to the sides
