Dinner party on Sunday. Making bouillabaisse which is an absolute faff and just cannot be bothered to spend more than 5 minutes on dessert.

Apart from buying something premade what can I go with?

Baileys chocolate ‘mousse’

Whisk some baileys with melted chocolate and couple cream. Put into dishes and chill to set. Top with whipped cream and some of the odd large chocolate stars from the supermarket - normally with the baking stuff.

@Bobbybobbins Grin I'll have to look for that one when I'm next there!

@Lollypop701

Or Eton mess with pre made meringue
I was about to suggest this. So easy.
Limer · 12/10/2021 22:08

I've made a very easy Prosecco jelly with raspberries:

In a 1-pint bowl, melt 1 packet raspberry jelly with half a pint of boiling water. Add a punnet of fresh raspberries. Top up to 1 pint with Prosecco. Leave to set and serve with whipped cream.

Also excellent using rose lemonade instead of Prosecco.

Trifle
Apple Crumble
Eton Mess

This - it’s amazing. Make it now and bung it in the freezer (I leave out the nuts to make it even easier).
Half an hour before serving (or slightly earlier) take it out. That is all you have to do on the day!

Another for lemon posset. The James Martin recipe (if you can call it that!!) is about as simple as it gets.

I serve in 1960’s glass teacups and saucers, with a really good, thin ginger biscuit or brandy snap on the sides.

Sarahlou63 · 12/10/2021 22:12

250gm mascarpone, 200mil cream 397gm (can) condensed milk.

Zest and juice of 3 lemons.

Electric whisk all together bar the juice, which you drizzle in slowly over about 5 minutes until it thickens. Into the fridge, either in ramekins or a shallow tray overnight - grate chocolate over the top just before serving.

Sit back and absorb the praise...

Meringue nest topped with tinned mandarin segments. Scoop of ice cream, some squirty cream on top then a shot of Cointreau.

Pavlova defo. Could murder one just now with raspberries. Mmmmm.

leavesthataregreen · 12/10/2021 22:51

Iced berries with white chocolate sauce. Melt some white chocolate, stir in some warmed single cream maybe laced with brandy or amaretto. Pour over iced berries.

Or whip some double cream with a heaped tablespoon of icing sugar and some amaretto, then put it in the blender with a bag of frozen black cherries. Instant cherry ice cream. Serve with almond cantucci.

Bouledeneige · 12/10/2021 23:06

Entertaining on Friday. I'm doing an Nigel Slater almond and lemon cake with chopped dried apricots in it. I will make it the day before and have it with vanilla yoghurt and maybe some raspberries. It's very simple to make.

lovablequalities · 12/10/2021 23:09

Definitely affrogato - good vanilla ice cream with a decent espresso chucked on it.

Or something you make the day before like a tart or pavlova.

If it were me then: Chocolate mousse (Elizabeth David has the best and easiest recipe) is also a very simple straightforward, make ahead recipe. Make sure you have big mixing bowls is the only thing.

semideponent · 12/10/2021 23:12

big bowl of frozen m and ms

INeedNewShoes · 12/10/2021 23:12

Chocolate pots.

I can prep the mixture in under 10 minutes and then they just sit waiting in the fridge and need 10 minutes in the oven when you want to serve them.

The first time a friend served me one of these at a dinner party I was bowled over by it and couldn't believe it when he told me how easy it was to make!

MajorCarolDanvers · 12/10/2021 23:13

Lemon or lime syllabub

Or Cranachan

Both can be made in minutes.

Do you have a recipe for them?
Augusta123 · 12/10/2021 23:17

Nigella coffee ice cream. It requires double cream, a tin of sweetened condensed milk, espresso powder. You can add alcohol if you like. Whisk all together. Freeze. Recipe online. I like it more when it is not frozen solid.

harriethoyle · 12/10/2021 23:18

James Martin lemon mascarpone no bake cheesecake. Takes 5 minutes to put together them just bung in the fridge to set.
