Gusto boxes

Just started the gusto boxes. Would anyone like to swap recipe choices? / hints?

I’m cooking the prawn farfalle today - about to serve it for lunch but baffled the online recipe and physical recipe card don’t match. One says rocket one says pea shoots - I assume that’s a sub but weird that it’s the physical version that’s correct!

Has anyone else made this one? Or have any tips on choosing gusto meals?

That should be minty lamb, clearly too much alcohol this evening!

Foxhasbigsocks · 05/03/2021 22:51

@namesnamesnamesnames I’m cooking it tomorrow- will cut carrots a bit!

Yes definitely report missing items - we've had the odd missing / wrong & have received credit for all of them.

We've been trying Hello Fresh this last week. I wasn't as impressed with the recipe choices and found most things I liked the look of had a surcharge. I received the wrong ingredients bag entirely for one of my meals - but the meat for the recipe I'd ordered. Reporting it was more of a faff - no facility within the app, so had to call them. Give them their due though, they put a decent credit on my account and found out which meal the ingredients were for & emailed me the recipe over. We've had 3 meals so far, 2 were very tasty, 1 was so-so... Have had to tweak their cooking times for every meal though so not sure it would be that good for someone who doesn't usually cook from scratch.

Back to Gousto this week as their meal options were much more inspiring! Then will hopefully have a few more weeks of Hello Fresh while my discount is still valid.

We had the chickpea Indian nachos last night, so nice!

bonfireheart · 07/03/2021 12:14

I love Gousto but haven't ordered for a few weeks now. None of their vegetarian options lately have justified the price. It's a lot for some pasta or sweet potato with beans. I've got lots of credit on my account so hoping there's some good options soon.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 07/03/2021 15:37

I know what you mean @bonfireheart - I don’t usually order pasta dishes and resented paying for the sausage and mash (but DH had added it to the list). I try to pick things we’d not bother doing ourself

bonfireheart · 07/03/2021 16:02

I have asked them previously about doing a more budget friendly option and then one at their current price point. But I realise the maths might not work out for them. Just feels a bit silly that someone buying pasta pays the same as someone buying the meat dishes. And the whole basa fillet annoys me, with extra cost for decent fish. It was great when I couldn't find supermarket delivery slots but think I'll be doing it as a one off every so often now.

Long time Gousto fan here. Top recipes are: mixed pepper risotto, smoked chicken and mushroom linguine, salt and chilli chicken and the chipotle burger!! Starting to find all the Asian recipes very same-y

Foxhasbigsocks · 07/03/2021 20:26

@namesnamesnamesnames thanks for the tip - I made it tonight in the end. I cut all the bigger chantenay carrots in half and did it for 35 mins and it was perfect.

I did reduce the salt though by only adding one mini pot of marmite. I find a lot of the recipes way too salty

That's great, I'm glad I could help.

Thank you to whoever signed up using my referral code Grin I have ordered a new box because of the £20 discount!

DM me if you want a referral code from me for 50% off your next box.

You get the 50% off your next box and further discounts if you sign up for a new account with a new email address...just a tip!

jimjamjoo · 11/03/2021 13:34

@crumbsnamechange I thought it was linked to your billing address? We tried to do this a while back with my DH's account and it said we couldn't because we had the same billing address? Might have changed though 🤞🤞

It's always been fine with me, which is a good thing as I've lived in several houseshares and we've all had separate Gousto accounts at the same address.

StocksAndScares · 12/03/2021 13:11

What are we having this week?

I've got the Thai curry and Vietnamese noodles.

Hubby has the haddock pasta and chorizo pasta

crumbsnamechange · 12/03/2021 14:37

One-Pot Creamy Sun-Dried Tomato & Chicken Stew
All-In-One Fragrant Coconutty Haddock Curry
Baked Butternut Squash Biryani
Coconut Yoghurt and Homemade Chicken Goujons & Cheesy Beans

Looking forward to the stew especially!

Foxhasbigsocks · 12/03/2021 15:12

@crumbsnamechange we had haddock curry - was delish but fish took longer to cook. I would cut it up if the pieces are big (ours were quite large).

Thanks for the tip! I often find that with Gousto meat and fish!

Babysharkdododont · 12/03/2021 15:18

@crumbsnamechange the chicken and tomato stew desperately needs some green veg to break through it, I threw in a handful of frozen peas and served some broccoli on the side, it's more the consistency of a casserole than a stew, so you can get away with side veg.

Foxhasbigsocks · 12/03/2021 18:40

@crumbsnamechange yes! They are supposed to be delivered as “haddock bites” but my pieces were more like mini fillets!

Karwomannghia · 12/03/2021 21:50

We’re having Asian fish goujons and sushi rice, curried fish tray bake, Irish boxty with salmon and miso tofu with spring greens. Not sure what to go for first!

StocksAndScares · 13/03/2021 13:10

I have had ingredients issuing every week the passed 4 weeks. Sad

I always report them, but I'm worried to this week as I don't want Gousto to think I'm trying it on with them.

bonfireheart · 13/03/2021 13:23

Sometimes they email me themselves to say x has been replaced with y but not always. It's annoying when it's a main ingredient - I had no spinach for my fish and spinach curry.

Foxhasbigsocks · 13/03/2021 13:42

@StocksAndScares we are taking a few weeks pause and that’s part of the reason why - I’m sick of the missing bits

AngelsWithSilverWings · 13/03/2021 17:39

After raving about Gousto to all my friends and family for weeks I'm now annoyed as this week's box has not arrived and we should have been cooking the first meal now.

If it arrives any later than now it's going to be useless as they have already sent us the use by dates and we really need to eat one of them tonight or it won't work out.

On the verge of ordering pizza in now as the kids are getting hungry!

helpfulperson · 13/03/2021 17:54

Can you not track pretty accurately what the arrival time is? I can with yodel but other companies may be different.

I've started freezing the meat/fish when the box arrives to give more flexibility
