Gusto boxes

Just started the gusto boxes. Would anyone like to swap recipe choices? / hints?

I’m cooking the prawn farfalle today - about to serve it for lunch but baffled the online recipe and physical recipe card don’t match. One says rocket one says pea shoots - I assume that’s a sub but weird that it’s the physical version that’s correct!

Has anyone else made this one? Or have any tips on choosing gusto meals?

Oh no! We've had a delivery today and I was just coming on to say the sweet and sticky Chinese pork was very tasty - even persuaded DD to cook it with me, which is a rare occurrence indeed.

IdesMarchof · 19/02/2021 20:50

@MutteringDarkly that sounds lush!

I like the fish tacos, we had a really nice chicken naan thing yesterday, very tasty. I like the one pot currys as I hate loads of washing up. I couldn't stand hello fresh as it used every bloody bowl in the house.

@IdesMarchof

I’ve just had a totally messed up new box - I bet from the new warehouse. Items dirty (dead insect stuck to one package) and some veg not good quality. Stuff mixing including a recipe card plus random subs.

It’s like night and day to my first box and to be honest if it continued like this I would stop ordering.

Hoping this is just a blip.

Wow this has never happened to us. I bet they will refund your entire box
GingerAndTheBiscuits · 19/02/2021 22:03

Yes I expect they will refund - take a photo of the box and send it to them. We had a box not turn up one week (courier left it in the porch three doors up, which is empty, we found it a week later!). They refunded straight away and I think put a credit on our account as well as I was annoyed about having to go shopping Grin

IdesMarchof · 19/02/2021 23:02

That does sound annoying @GingerAndTheBiscuits!

I’m getting the cost of the affected meal back because the other meals were all fine, weirdly. That seems fair so hopefully a one off

I sent them photos so they could see i wasn’t making it up

@StarJumpAlertTakeCover
Flowers
This is such a heartwarming story- I love the image of your dh and ds working together whilst your health improved

Best wishes for a continued recovery

Useful thread as also in a bit of a cooking rut. The only thing that concerns is the amount of packaging everything comes in. What is it like? We are really trying to reduce packaging waste here.

StarJumpAlertTakeCover · 20/02/2021 10:01

@BlueCowWonders

Thank you so much 😊

IdesMarchof · 20/02/2021 10:10

I agree @StarJumpAlertTakeCover - you have a lovely Gousto story Flowers

We made the everyday cottage pie today. It was pretty tasty and much to my horror the whole family said they vastly prefer it to my mum’s family recipe which is the version that I usually make!! Grin

I wouldn’t say it was especially quick though - took me 1 hr 20 with all the chopping included etc

OP posts:
IdesMarchof · 20/02/2021 18:39

Maybe I’m just a very slow chopper!!

@LovingKent the packaging is a bit of a concern t be honest!! The box is completely recyclable and some items come in brown paper. But my dp and I were tut tutting a bit over the little plastic packs and bags.

Having said that I guess our usual shop has plastic anyway, so it probably isn’t any more than we’d usually bring into the house in a week

I'm also a lockdown Gousto convert!

Every recipe we have had from them has been great. My only complaint is that the portions can be a tad small sometimes.

phoebemcpeepee · 21/02/2021 08:35

We had the haddock and leek risotto which was nice enough but I under seasoned it and thought the fish was a bit bland - will make it again but get some decent smoked fish and lots more black pepper. We loved the fish tacos and had a gorgeous pork and venison burger. Going veggie this week so looking for suggestions on the current menu.

LovingKent · 21/02/2021 08:41

@IdesMarchof thank you.

Stealthynamechange · 21/02/2021 09:05

@phoebemcpeepee the miso tofu is amazing 😍

IdesMarchof · 21/02/2021 09:14

@Stealthynamechange love miso and tofu so also interested in this!

The mild chicken curry was a let down, did anyone else find this? However, the crispy chilli lean beef and coriander noodles was just blissful. We're looking forward to trying lasagne this week.

If anyone would like a code, please feel free to send a dm. It's 100% worth it with 50% off!

IdesMarchof · 21/02/2021 09:17

@namesnamesnamesnames we found it was quite watery but dp confessed he may have accidentally put too much water in Grin

The chicken curry I mean

We have stopped using gousto recently after having them for 3 years. I think they've expanded too quickly and the quality has nose-dived. We had box after box with things missing, damaged, out of date etc and the chicken was ridiculous! I got chicken breasts that were barely bigger than a garlic bulb when they'd previously been enormous. It's such a shame as I love their recipes and we had been pretty devoted to them since we started using them but we've now moved to Hello Fresh instead, the recipes are not as good but the quality is tons better.

namesnamesnamesnames · 21/02/2021 09:24

@idesmarchof Yes it was runny, also very bland. I have my own large spice stock so think I'll add something to it next time, if we do try it again. Also it was too creamy for us, I would use less cream.

IdesMarchof · 21/02/2021 09:26

@namesnamesnamesnames I’m glad it wasn’t just me - dp is very happy that he may not have screwed up
