Gusto boxes

Just started the gusto boxes. Would anyone like to swap recipe choices? / hints?

I’m cooking the prawn farfalle today - about to serve it for lunch but baffled the online recipe and physical recipe card don’t match. One says rocket one says pea shoots - I assume that’s a sub but weird that it’s the physical version that’s correct!

Has anyone else made this one? Or have any tips on choosing gusto meals?

I ordered hello fresh instead of my normal gousto last night because of the offers. Now I remember why I stopped. So many of the meals are ‘extra’, with one even asking 50p extra for the broccoli. Gousto is only extra for steak or salmon.

MoneySavingExpert have e a £15 off a box for 5 weeks HelloFresh deal, which I've just signed up to.
I'm getting the 3 meals for 2 people box at £11.99.
I've not tried them before.

We absolutely swear by Gousto. I know it's sad but ordering the food and getting the box are two of the highlights of my week these days!
I slightly prefer Gousto as it's better value, and there's more choice. Also the menu cards are better. However I find the quality of Hello Fresh ingredients is slightly better, and I like that I can order five meals for three people (one of our dds is vegan, the other fussy, so there's more flexibility). None of it is wasted though - I have a freezer filled with metal takeaway containers full of leftover meals!

Meal boxes have been a godsend, particularly over lock-down.

Has anyone tried Mindful Chef? Looks really expensive and not much choice, but I'd be interested to hear any opinions.

gousto works out really cheap for me, I order the box for 4 and it always makes 5 meals (unless its a salad)
we eat 2 for dinner, 2 for lunch the next day 1 goes in the freezer so we get 6 days of dinners out of it.

@Lanique my friend and her sister have used mindful chef and recommend them, one is vegan and is very happy with the choice for her

I would steer clear of the onion Bhaji burger. It's the only recipe we both couldn't eat.

Hello fresh, fiddly recipes, they use chicken thigh lots and it's disgusting, and everything has coriander and lime. It gets a bit samey very quickly and it's more expensive.

Gousto, really wide range from a variety of country's, the app is simple to use and order, they have quick meals which we always make sure we add. The meat is nicer and the best before dates are much longer.

Both make odd mistakes with missing bits but in gousto if you click the app tel them what's missing they credit it straight away.

Hands down in this house gousto wins, we have 4 meals for 4 people every week and only have to do a snack and top up shop so have been saving money with less waste.

We were quite disappointed with our last Gousto box. The fish flatbreads were absolutely tiny, but worse, the fish had worms. Beyond vile. Put me off fish completely.
They also sent a sweetheart cabbage instead of a pak choi and in another dish they substituted the chicken fillets for plant magic vegan pieces.
Absolutely awful.
Hello Fresh can be patchy but it's never been that bad.

Indeed is awful. Did you contact them about it? Surely they’d refund for all those issues in the same box

We started ordering Gousto last July when I had shingles and my husband and adult son were left to fend for themselves!
We have been shielding here since March.
In august I was diagnosed with the big C and consequently had major surgery, chemo etc etc.
Gousto has continued. I have obviously not been eating much myself, but it’s absolutely heartwarming to see my husband and son cook together and it’s incredible frankly the skills and confidence they have gained.
Previously they could both cook if necessary but it would be a very small choice....!
Now they’re out there bashing lemongrass, zesting limes, turning out fantastic suppers and have had a cookery course really. They are quite proud of themselves.
I’m improving now so gradually taking back my kitchen ( I love cooking) but if and when I’m tired from the radiotherapy they now have loads of recipe cards and can jump in and cook with confidence.
I think Gousto are great. It’s been a massively positive experience for us.

Gousto I had been great for us, they have the best vegan options I think, I have tried mindful chef and the portions are small and it's very fiddly!
I had loads of issues with hello fresh, missing ingredients and quality of the veg.

My favourite so far has been the the butter (fake) chicken curry, it was amazing!

Eek, worms! I am a big fan of Gousto but I do worry about the length of time food may have been sitting around before reaching our door - often the chilled items aren’t put into the chilled box, for example. Luckily we don’t order meat or fish so don’t have that to worry about. Also I’ve noticed more mistakes in recent weeks, I think they’ve opened up a new warehouse to cope with demand and wonder if there are some teething problems.

We're having black pepper chicken daal tonight which I really hope is as good as it looks!

Definitely agree with the previous comments regarding customer service compared with Hello Fresh - you've got to have serious determination and a lot of free time to arrange to get any partial refunds from HF (even when an entire box doesn't show up). Gousto you just go on the app and follow the steps to report a problem and they credit you immediately.

I prefer their packaging as well - the cardboard box for the chilled items rather than the weird insulation stuff HF use. I am a bit disappointed they moved to using a bag for each meal though, just seems like more unnecessary packaging, which it's already pretty heavy on anyway.

Just had my first gousto box 😍😍😍 im thinking of ordering a couple per month, im veggie & it gets me out of a cooking rut. The miso tofu was amazing!

I’ve just had a totally messed up new box - I bet from the new warehouse. Items dirty (dead insect stuck to one package) and some veg not good quality. Stuff mixing including a recipe card plus random subs.

It’s like night and day to my first box and to be honest if it continued like this I would stop ordering.

Hoping this is just a blip.
