Gusto boxes

Just started the gusto boxes. Would anyone like to swap recipe choices? / hints?

I’m cooking the prawn farfalle today - about to serve it for lunch but baffled the online recipe and physical recipe card don’t match. One says rocket one says pea shoots - I assume that’s a sub but weird that it’s the physical version that’s correct!

Has anyone else made this one? Or have any tips on choosing gusto meals?

3rd MindfulChef box today but absolute car crash - loads of items arrived damaged, about on a par with my worst gusto delivery. So my sceptical approach to box 1 was justified I think

In fairness to them they are resending the entire box for free, so that’s good

I think I have had them before. Are they the chicken ones with lime Mayo? I can’t remember how messy they were to eat though.

Yes that's the one! I end up with lime Mayo all over my fingers but it is tasty.

I had the sweet potato 'lasagne' this evening.

It was. It's basically sweet potato instead of pasta but the rest is the same. Very nice.

Shame about your Mindful Chef box but sounds like they responded well by sending box out again. For the money it costs you would expect quality to be top notch though.
Do you think you will continue to use MC?

It's interesting reading all these reviews. We used Hello Fresh for a while, but changed to Mindful Chef about 4 weeks ago. I've not been impressed with Mindful Chef to be honest. The first box was ok, but since then we've had issues with quality (rotten carrots, black potatoes, bruised friut and badly browned lettuice). For the past 2 weeks we've have a meal missing from the delivery as they've had supply issues (missing meals were delivered later in the week). This week they were promoting Hawksmore steak, which we orded for a special meal on friday, only to have it substituted for generic brand rump steak, my husband was livid!!

We are thinking of trying Gusto next, hopefully we'll have a better experiance with them.

What's annoying me lately about gousto is them not making it clear what extra you need for recipe that they don't provide. Fair enough, you need your own oil, salt and pepper. But for the last recipe I also needed flour, milk and butter. Really annoying as rarely have flour or butter at home. I know I need to read the app better before ordering, but still!

bonfireheart, was that for the cheese sauce for lasagna? The moussaka was the same, they only provided the cheese for the cheese sauce. Fortunately we had flour, butter and milk in.

Randommother, we have tried Gousto and Hello Fresh. I prefer Gousto for meal choices and we rarely have any issues with them. I like that you can pause your subscription with Gousto so that you don’t have to think to skip boxes if you don’t want a delivery every week. I haven’t tried Mindful Chef yet. It seems very expensive compared to Gousto.

@Randommother we’ve done gusto and MindfulChef- to be honest the quality/damage issues are around the same with gusto. I’m thinking to alternate them by what I like on the menu.

If cost were the same I would stick with MindfulChef as the recipes are more to my taste, meat is better and they do free range chicken. I know not everyone is bothered but me and dp don’t eat battery chicken which gusto use, so that really cuts down what we can order from gusto.

I have just made the ginger and aubergine stir fry again and added some baby corn. Was really good

That was so nice that stir fry - one of the best gusto meals we had I think

I agree - it was so full of flavour.
I ordered some lemongrass and aubergines with my shopping this week so that I could recreate it. I also cooked the feta, broccoli and tomato farfelle which was so easy to make and tasty.

I have a Hello Fresh coming next week. Haven’t used them for a while but thought I would give it another go for a change.

I would really like to hear about hello fresh - haven’t tried them!!

I did have a HF box once and it was OK, but their vegetarian options weren't great so O cancelled. Have the same issue now with Gousto, so might give HF another try.

Found a voucher for HF in my emails and have placed an order for next Wednesday. The options are still a bit meh, but remembered the worst thing about HF...they take the money out of your account BEFORE they even let you see the options...!!

I've ordered:
Creamy prawn rigatoni with courgette
Cajum spiced seabass with sweet potato and cavolo Nero mash
Roasted pepper and Aubergine linguine

Not sure I would order again because them taking money out of my account before ordering, really annoys me. Gousto only takes money out once I've received the box.

And I've gone into my Gousto app and ordered for the following week, just to avoid going to the supermarket!! Last week I went to Tesco at 2pm before school and it was so busy, took me 30 mins just to pay :/

From Gousto I've ordered:
Baked cod with coconut curry sauce and mustardy greens
Teriyaki salmon noodles
Asparagus, pea and Basil speltotto (never heard of this before!)
Sweetcorn and potato cakes with avocado

bonfireheart, it looks like we have been tempted by some of the same meals. I have the creamy prawn rigatoni from HF and did have the spiced sea bass as one of my selections (one thing I like with HF is that they don’t charge extra for decent fish, unlike Gousto) but replaced it with the lamb and chickpea stew as we already had some sea bass in the fridge.
I have also chosen the cod with coconut sauce from Gousto for the following week. Thought it sounded nice and it’s good to see cod used for a change rather than basa.

I also keep adding, taking out and adding again the Gousto mushroom stroganoff
