Gusto boxes

Just started the gusto boxes. Would anyone like to swap recipe choices? / hints?

I’m cooking the prawn farfalle today - about to serve it for lunch but baffled the online recipe and physical recipe card don’t match. One says rocket one says pea shoots - I assume that’s a sub but weird that it’s the physical version that’s correct!

Has anyone else made this one? Or have any tips on choosing gusto meals?

We are having the sweet chilli chicken tonight. Smile

Baboutheocelot · 08/05/2021 20:35

We had the sweet chilli cauliflower a few nights ago and it was really good. When I was cooking it I was doubtful as I didn’t think the cauliflower would have long enough to cook, but I gave it a bit extra. My chips also stuck to the tray (finally ordered a tray liner) so it all looked a bit of a mess but tasted good, the sweet chilli sauce made it I think.

We loved the sweet chilli chicken. The chips that went with it were also really good and we managed not to stick them to the tray this time!

We are having Korean prawn noodle soup tonight - any cooking tips?!

pinkchampagne1 · 09/05/2021 09:36

We had the Korean prawn soup and just cooked as the recipe suggested. It was quite easy to make and really tasty.
I loved the Korean meals. The prawn noodle soup and the Buldak chicken were my favourites.

TheCreationOfDistance · 09/05/2021 11:12

I didn’t like the Korean prawn soup all that much but my DCs adored it & it was nice & quick to make...

In a fit of inspiration, I just used the spare lasagne sheets (I ordered a box for 4 but only made it for 2 the other night) to recreate their butternut & spinach lasagne from a year or 2 ago. My veggie kids loved it! I had some frozen butternut squash & cheap spinach from Aldi so it’s a good result! I love using their things up in other ways, they are very generous.

TheCreationOfDistance · 09/05/2021 11:15

Meant to add - in my first box, I had a beef Korean bulgogi recipe which was vvv tasty. Agree they are nice recipes. Will recreate soon!

pinkchampagne1 · 09/05/2021 11:51

Wish I had tried the beef bulgogi now! I hope they bring the Korean theme back at some point. Looking forward to hearing what people make of the new cookstarter recipes next week.

TheSuezCanalTugBoat · 09/05/2021 12:30

The paneer makhni was beautiful Smile

Foxhasbigsocks · 09/05/2021 12:38

The beef bulgogi was excellent - possibly our favourite dish so far!

Foxhasbigsocks · 09/05/2021 12:39

Thanks for prawn soup info @pinkchampagne1 and @TheCreationOfDistance

@TheCreationOfDistance Did you just find the soup a bit meh?

TheCreationOfDistance · 09/05/2021 12:48

Yes, a bit meh. For all the fancy chilli stuff, it was no better than a noodle thing I usually make with prawns. Maybe my expectations were too high!

Oh I so wish I had chosen the beef bulgogi now!

We had the chicken paneer makhni last week too. It was lovely wasn’t it?

We don’t have our next box until next Saturday but my DH is going to have a go at creating the Sri Lankan chicken curry tomorrow. It is in the cookbook section of the Gousto app and looks nice. Smile

myfuckingfreezer · 09/05/2021 17:10

Those who cook the recipes on their own on later weeks, has anyone found a good replacement for the coconut yoghurt? I had it on a couple of recipes last month (squash biryani etc) and have tried two alternatives but both not quire right, too sweet/artificial.

Foxhasbigsocks · 09/05/2021 19:05

Right I’ve now made the Korean prawn soup. I really liked it but dp was with you on meh @TheCreationOfDistance

My verdict is nice but very hot so if you don’t like a lot of heat I would put in two thirds of the hot spice packet (can’t remember the Korean word!)

TheCreationOfDistance · 09/05/2021 22:02

Yes! I found same, only used about 2/3 of the Korean hot spice. That was plenty.

@myfuckingfreezer Ocado have The Coconut Collaborative, is that any good? I remember wondering the same - some of the lentil dishes were lovely with their coconut non-yoghurt. I buy coconut yoghurt in Lidl but it would be too sweet... Must get those dishes again. The Sri Lankan curry was divine!

Stealthynamechange · 10/05/2021 11:43

Great hearing all your tips & recomendations. My next box is due thursday - I'm looking forward to it!

Cooked the paneer makhani at the weekend - MUCH hotter than expected! I was tricked by the use of natural yoghurt. Enjoyed the flavours but next time i will use less cayenne!

catsareme14 · 10/05/2021 11:49

I had the vegan burgers , beetroot I think . I love meat but these were gorgeous.

pinkchampagne1 · 10/05/2021 19:43

Just had the Sri Lankan chicken curry that features on the Gousto app. It was absolutely amazing!

pinkchampagne1 · 11/05/2021 16:46

I am liking the look of the new menu choices for the week after next

TheSuezCanalTugBoat · 11/05/2021 17:02

Really? I think they're a bit pants again Sad

Foxhasbigsocks · 11/05/2021 17:27

I’ve just skipped week starting 28 May as there’s nothing I fancy Sad

pinkchampagne1 · 11/05/2021 17:33

I have had the chicken Shaslik burritos before and they were amazing so have chosen them again. Also gone for the chicken pathia, the crispy chilli beef with coriander noodles and the sweet chilli chicken with veg packed rice. There were lots of menus that tempted me so I found it hard to choose.

pinkchampagne1 · 11/05/2021 17:34

Sorry, should say ‘loads of recipes’ not menus! I am v tired today!
