Gusto boxes

Just started the gusto boxes. Would anyone like to swap recipe choices? / hints?

I’m cooking the prawn farfalle today - about to serve it for lunch but baffled the online recipe and physical recipe card don’t match. One says rocket one says pea shoots - I assume that’s a sub but weird that it’s the physical version that’s correct!

Has anyone else made this one? Or have any tips on choosing gusto meals?

My chips stick too, I try to balance them skin side down if I can!

Has anyone tried signing up with different email addresses to use the discount on more than one occasion? Does it track your billing address? Love the boxes but can't really afford them full price.

I haven’t with Gousto but have with Hello Fresh. I was with them a few years ago and used a different email address so that a friend could send me a free first box.

Someone on this thread said they cancelled their Gousto subscription and got offered 20% to go back so you may find they email you a discount if you cancel.

I tried it and it doesn't work. If your delivery address is already in the system, you're told so and that you don't qualify.

Maybe try cancelling your subscription and see if they email you a discount code to encourage you to come back.

I would be interested to hear what people make of the new cookstarter recipes next week. I haven’t ordered a box for next week yet (was thinking of having a week off) but they look tempting

Ive had the mushroom stroganoff tonight, really lovely, made enough for 3 generous portions :-) (i buy the box for 2 people)

What are cookstarter recipes?

They are a selection of recipes chosen from independent restaurants. I believe there was a competition and the winning 5 got one of their recipes included on the Gousto menu. They look quite nice

Had the beef enchiladas tonight. They were so good!

Korean pork stir fry tonight. Was nice but not as good as the Buldak chicken we had last week.
Got the sticky sweet chilli chicken with salt and pepper chips tomorrow.

I had the extra special meat free sausages & mash last night, delicious - gravy was amazing!

Ive got the noyas kitchen aubergine stir fry on the list next week which im loooking forward to.

We had the cauli dhansak - would really recommend it

The beef enchiladas were amazing! I followed exactly same recipe but just swapped chopped mushrooms for mince in a second pan to make veggie version - froze the extra mince.

The lasagne, however...!!!!!! Like no lasagne I have ever made. And a bit of a cheese that you have to make about a third of it from your own ingredients (white sauce).

I do like them, though! Pretty good value for money & adds creativity to cooking.

We loved the beef enchiladas too - they were so good! Would definitely get them again.

I have had the lasagna before and wouldn’t get it again. I remember the cheese sauce being a pain to make.

It literally only gave you the cheese for the cheese sauce and you had to use your own ingredients for the rest of it. I wouldn’t order it again.

I am having next week off but have a box ordered for next Saturday. Was tempted by the crab and pea risotto.

Yes! Bit of a cheek (not cheese, as I previously said. 🤣) to make you add milk, butter, flour, etc. when the objective is that they provide the meals as ready but as fresh as poss. I’ve orders it from them a few times just to “check” each time but am always disappointed! No tinned tomatoes, either, it’s a weird sauce. Some mince between pasta sheets, basically. I did, however, make a different lasagne recipe with them once - was it butternut squash and spinach, as part of their Italian series? That one was v lovely and more interesting.

I’m fascinated by them! 😁 There is something about their cooking-by-numbers approach, I love the translation of food into what you see on the cards, it makes it sooooo simple!

Will get them again in a few weeks when kids are home for half term - that’s when it seems most cost-efficient.
