Gusto boxes

Just started the gusto boxes. Would anyone like to swap recipe choices? / hints?

I’m cooking the prawn farfalle today - about to serve it for lunch but baffled the online recipe and physical recipe card don’t match. One says rocket one says pea shoots - I assume that’s a sub but weird that it’s the physical version that’s correct!

Has anyone else made this one? Or have any tips on choosing gusto meals?

@bonfireheart I think you do Wine

We have to be a bit careful as dp has done amazing in the lockdown going from obese to now almost a healthy weight (just a smidge overweight now) amd I was overweight before and have gone to healthy weight.

For us I think it’s portions - we get the 4 person box but if the kids don’t like it we end up eating it Blush plus our diet outside gusto is ultra healthy as we’ve been aiming for weight loss

TheSuezCanalTugBoat · 10/04/2021 14:09

I had the rainbow udon last night. It was quick and easy to prepare and tasted great.

I'm looking forward to Korean week too.

pinkchampagne1 · 10/04/2021 15:16

I think I have put on a few pounds but it is probably more likely to be the wine that goes alongside some of the meals!

I know what you mean about liking a week of normal meals. Sometimes I just want a fish cake from Auldi’s and a salad or some lamb steaks I can throw in the slow cooker before work.
Gousto is nice for a treat but I wouldn’t want it every week. Am looking forward to my delivery on Wednesday.

@Foxhasbigsocks

I’ve noticed my weight has started creeping up since we began gusto - probably more what I’m choosing than in any way their fault, though!
We have been ordering from Hello Fresh since the New Year and I think it's been responsible for my weight gain. Initially put it down to struggling to exercise during this lockdown but after reviewing the calorie content of my meals, I think it's the food boxes.

Going to try Gousto before giving up completely. It appears easier to select both low calorie and veggie options.

PandoraP · 10/04/2021 15:46

We alternate Gousto and HF. I think both have too many chicken based meals. I don’t think 800 calories is too much for a dinner, is it? 😳

minnimiss · 10/04/2021 15:57

My first box is coming tomorrow. Im a little worried now after seeing the comments about weight gain because that will be a Gousto dealbreaker for me! The calories of the meals I chose seemed reasonable though I think.

I've gone for the lentil stuffed mushrooms, pineapple and prawn curry, Lebanese spiced rice and Onion Bhaji burger. We don't eat meat but still found lots to choose from.

pinkchampagne1 · 10/04/2021 16:12

I wouldn’t worry too much about weight gain. I probably eat less calories with the Gousto meals as the portions are controlled and you can see the calorie content before you order. Like I said, any extra pounds with me are more likely due to me being less active in lockdown and drinking more wine! 😳

pinkchampagne1 · 10/04/2021 16:13

We have ordered the onion bhaji burger too. We are not vegetarian but thought that looked really nice

Zampa · 10/04/2021 16:36

I've used your code @Stealthynamechange. Fingers crossed some weight drops off with the healthy choices!

My code is as follows in case anyone wants it;

cook.gousto.co.uk/raf/?promo_code=ALICE42387992&utm_source=weblink

Stealthynamechange · 10/04/2021 19:29

@zampa thanks for using my code really hope you enjoy them.

Ive had the crispy sweet & sour tofu tonight - was soooo good! It easily made 3 portions, so I've 1 in the fridge & 1 in the freezer for another time. I do find all the portions large so generally split into 3 brings calories down to generally 400-500.

bonfireheart · 11/04/2021 18:55

I had the lighter garlic and chilli prawn linguine today (only 280 calories!). It was so simple to make and so tasty, really light and refreshing - with tomatoes, courgette and spinach so getting my five a day in! One of the nice things about Gousto has been the new recipes that I've learnt and will make again.

TheSuezCanalTugBoat · 12/04/2021 11:10

The mushroom Wellington was great! The gravy in particular was divine

pinkchampagne1 · 12/04/2021 11:23

Has anyone tried any of the Korean meals yet?
We have our box coming Wednesday. Smile

bonfireheart · 12/04/2021 11:48

@TheSuezCanalTugBoat was it fiddly to make? I'm making it tomorrow and can never get pastry right so hopefully it's failsafe!

clare8allthepies · 12/04/2021 11:55

We’ve had 2 boxes so far with 2 more to come before our discount runs out. I am so fed up of eating the same few meals over and over again because of the fussy children 🙄. It’s been a bit hit and miss but I think that we’ve found a couple of new things that we all liked.

I’ve got a Korean dish coming this week and next that I’m not very confident about the youngest eating much of!

Stealthynamechange · 12/04/2021 11:56

I also had the mushroom wellington yesterday, much tastier than expected - i found it quite easy to make, esp as the pastry is pre rolled. Hopefully it will wprk for you!

Just had the curried potato cauliflower & cashew traybake for early lunch (in work shortly). Really flavoursome & suspect it will be even better tomorrow. Portion was huge, should be for 2 has made for 4, lots of leftovers to look forward too :-)

Thanks to the poster who used my referral code, if anyone else would like to use it, its: NICOL42250257 50% off first box & 30% off first month.

Looking forward to this weeks delivery - I get very excited when it arrives!

Our code incase anyone wants to try it.
We have loved our first box this week!

mermaidsariel · 12/04/2021 17:08

The calorie count on most of their recipes is huge so I don’t see how anyone could lose weight on it. I do like it , but they source their fish from fish farms inThailand and Cambodia! Not good from any point of view. They also feature clotted cream a lot and a lot of dairy heavy ingredients. They do taste nice though. I only order when there’s an offer on as it’s so expensive.

pinkchampagne1 · 12/04/2021 18:19

The calories vary. The Korean noodle soup we are getting this week is under 400 calories and the onion bhaji burger snd chilli chips is under 600. The other Korean chicken meal is over 900 calories so it really depends what you go for.
Today I sat outside a pub in the cold and had a halloumi fajita and chips. I dread to think of the calorie content in that but it was v nice and sometimes ignorance is bliss! Grin

You can filter recipes by
Calories controlled
Lean in 15 (Joe Wicks)

These all seem to be under 500 calories. The prawn linguine I had today was about 280 calories.

I find that they include lots of veg and salad in their dishes which helps.

mermaidsariel · 12/04/2021 19:42

You can, but the choices are very limited and not very inspired I find.

TabbyStar · 12/04/2021 20:08

I've just cooked the Korean thing with the fried egg, and ... I dunno really, I don't love it, but then we have a Korean place just down the road so maybe I'm spoiled. The rice needed more water and attention than in the recipe, though it turned out fine. DD's gone out drinking so I'm on my own and eating it for lunch tomorrow too! It's a way of eating lots of veg, which is good.

minnimiss · 13/04/2021 16:13

So far the lentil cheesy stuffed mushrooms and the Lebanese rice with crispy fish have both been a hit! I did find the Lebanese dish a bit more of a faff to make but it was very tasty and very filling.

TheSuezCanalTugBoat · 13/04/2021 16:38

We had the Korean bibimbap last night. It was alright, but nothing special. I needed about 5 pans to make it too, which was annoying.

pinkchampagne1 · 13/04/2021 17:10

Will maybe avoid the bibimbap then. Hoping the king prawn noodle soup that I have ordered will be nice.
