Mumsnet Village Show - An Afternoon Tea Tray for One

So here we are again.

So far the rules are:

Tea tray for one

Can include anything you want suitable for a summer high tea (sandwiches, scones, cake, biscuits etc) with suitable cutlery and crockery and the like. (Silver service if you are terribly posh)

Five quid budget (on top of what you already have in your larder).

SlightlyMadScientist is the judge (heaven help us...is she properly qualified???)

Oh and all entries will be anonymous this time (A, B, C etc).

Time limit is 9pm next sunday so we can be judged before bed time.

The rules will obviously be bent or completely ignored but so long as its tea ish then anything goes.

Oh yes, DH is a frightful tea snob. We have poncey little bags of various leaves in a poncey little cabinet.

I really get shouted at if I take the milk near any of them.

I'm a builders tea girl myself.

All you need to know here

MrsFish · 29/06/2007 22:34

When scones are presented at a function both methods are often used - it helps create a discussion, satisfies everyone and for artistic reasons it looks good. One tray of each side by side, or alternate rows are often used - but never a jumble!

There you go, there is no right or wrong way

bettythebuilder · 29/06/2007 22:37

oh my word, I've just perused the entries so far, and the standard is very high.

MrsTweedy · 29/06/2007 22:38

According to that, in Cornwall it's jam then cream, while in Devon it's cream then jam.
Makes sense as it was in Cornwall I had my first clotted cream tea!

SconesandMajesticSandwiches · 29/06/2007 22:40

SMS rapidly takes note

The standard is very high...but I was expecting somewhat more Class 2 (anything goes) entries....

bettythebuilder · 29/06/2007 22:42

I'm workin' on it

Peachy · 29/06/2007 22:44

There will be entries by Sunday I am sure.

Lots of people won't have ahd a chance to bake / make / present before the weekend.

anonymousbaker · 29/06/2007 22:47

Not telling you who I am then you cant deduct points when my trays go up

But there will beno milk jug as I am allergic to milk and therefore do not own one, which I think is pretty fair enough.

there will of course be lemon and appropriate tea.

SconesandMajesticSandwiches · 29/06/2007 22:50

No probs....

...I am just eagerly awaiting some LOLs, PMSLs, and ROFLs!!! I have been doing plenty of kegels just to make sure I am in good tone

onlyWotzadodar · 30/06/2007 09:43

it's raining her so guess what we will do later?

Peachy · 30/06/2007 11:33

started making mine yesterday but some parts will take at least 24 hours

SconesandMajesticSandwiches · 30/06/2007 13:14

Right I have been called to attend at 'tother village with effect immediately.

Any decisions will have to be made by comittee vote.....

onlyWotzadodar · 30/06/2007 15:23

Well it was lovely, 4 dcs eating and drinking tea from china tea cups and having a really good laugh. Sadly my camera batteries were not charged and they HAD to eat it all before I could take a picture. But it was good fun anyway.

For G I have noted the doily, as suggested. Please can I come to yours for tea, looks very professional and I am sure you must pop out for magazine photo shoots every now and again.
So please pity me as I don't remember ever having afternoon tea for one. Do you think you could possibly do it again, leave the key under the mat and then go out while I scoff it all ?

Peachy · 30/06/2007 18:17

LL

thanks for the certificates!

The boys loved them and I am keeping DS3's safe as he did so well (his was the choccys that got a special mention whena ssumed was by an adult LOL) and it reminds me that he has potential (he has a functioing age of 18 - 24 months, real of almost 4)

So rather means a lot
