Bento boxes are so beautiful though - does anyone have a source for nice looking ones that aren't too expensive?

Jomist · 14/05/2007 08:53

Anyway...by the time that lunch gets to school and has been bounced around in a school bag it's going to look a right mess! So there

lunavix · 14/05/2007 08:55

how random! sushi and chicken nuggets!

welliemum · 14/05/2007 08:56

Shmoo Mom is mad, but in a good way

expatinscotland · 14/05/2007 08:59

She makes a living off her blog, so yeah, if I did, you'd better believe I'd take a photo of the flippin' lunch.

Ask her, you can add comments in her blog, perhaps you can report back and share the tips.

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2007 09:05

I reckon she does most of it the night before

[lunchbox envy]

OMG now I really feel worse! That vegan mum is a little sickly but her lunch boxes look lush. We did a month of a vegan diet here and the kids now cheer if we are having fish or chicken for tea.

welliemum · 14/05/2007 09:15

But F&Z, if it's suhi, it would need to be fresh wouldn't it?

My money is on her being a raging insomniac.

welliemum · 14/05/2007 09:15

suhi=sushi

cylonbabe · 14/05/2007 09:17

my kids have a hot meal at school. it s far far more nutritious than any crap i can come up with.

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2007 09:18

Would sushi need to be fresh? She isn't using fish, just veggie ingredients, so I don't see why she couldn't make it the night before.

Her obsession with different types of vegan "cheese" does baffle and nauseate me, though

MrsBadger · 14/05/2007 09:18

if you're in London they certainly used to sell bento boxes at Oriental City on the Edgeware road...

expatinscotland · 14/05/2007 09:18

This is her job now. So I think that's why she's probably taking photos of it.

Her blog's lead to a book deal, public speaking engagements, interviews, etc.

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2007 09:19

Thanks MrsB

yes expat, but I used to look at her blog before she had the book deal etc and the lunchboxes were just as beautiful and painstaking then

don't be jealous frnny - I would rather be stuck in a lift with you than schmoo mum anyday!

Kif · 14/05/2007 09:27

OK, confession time:

I occassionally email my dh 'customer satisfaction' surveys, describing his packed lunch like a menu, and asking for scores on various criteria.

Really very sad - but I do like getting the questionaires back - and it gives me a weensy bit of smugness for posterity that very occasionally I can do rather cool lunchboxes too.

I also take digitial pics of any cool art work that me and Dd do together - nice to look back on it.

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2007 09:29

Kif that is hilarious, and very cute

ffs don't tell the rest of our dhs that you make beautiful lunches for yours, will you?

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2007 09:31

Thank you DT

however shmoo mom would probably have a spare lunchbox or two so at least you could while away the time by eating broccoli with a toffunaise dip

DimpledThighs · 14/05/2007 09:33

yeah - but bet she farts bad!

welliemum · 14/05/2007 09:34

I though sushi had to be fresh for aesthetic reasons (not just health and safety for fish) - but am aware that I'm just carping out of jealousy.
