Cheese string
Galaxy

and empty food bag - not sure of the contents but would hope a decent sandwich

I was so and . No wonder my DD wants rubbish in hers all the time!!!!

Also disagree with Lilyloo regarding the focus of this thread - the OP makes no mention of schools - that was your line and I was responding to OP !

My dd is not allowed crisps or choc or cream biscuits at school. I am glad of that rule - but at end of day what she eats is up to me and I would not exepct school to police it.

hayes · 30/04/2007 21:35

lilyloo I am speaking from a lunchtime supervisor perspective. I don't think the school has the power to ban junk food from home made lunches. the rule in our school is that you eat your sandwich before you start on anything else, so at least they have had the "good" thing before anything else.

The amount of food that some children have in their boxes is amazing, I think the mums are trying to feed the whole class!

Boco · 30/04/2007 21:35

I think we're misunderstanding each other scatter. I posted about my neice's friend coming to school with absolutely nothing in her lunchbox but a packet of sweets. Which i do blatantly judgementally judge as being crap.

You posted straight after saying ffs maybe her mum had nothing else in, and thought you were referring to my post. The stuff in the op i wouldn't get too het up over at all - i probably would't buy alot of it myself (although i really would eat the galaxy right now), but would't think badly of people who did buy it. I love wotsits too.

Skribble · 30/04/2007 21:35

Sounds like my lunch .

scatterbrain · 30/04/2007 21:36

Boco - sorry to be pedantic but I absolutely did NOT say FFS !!!

I hadn't even read your line - I was responding to the OP !

yesireallycan · 30/04/2007 21:37

OOh fish paste sandwiches making me nostalgic, I practically grew up on chicken paste and/or Heinz sandwich spread. And used to buy Pickled Onion flavour Monster Munch from the tuck box for my snack. And there's nowt wrong with me.

NappiesGalore · 30/04/2007 21:37

i tried goji berries the other day. bleaurgh. (and i like all that healthy seeds and hamster food stuff. i even do the 10 portions of fruit and veg a day, me)

LilyLoo · 30/04/2007 21:39

Scatterbrain the op says 'no wonder my dd wnats so much rubbish in hers' i took this to mean that she was surprised that the school allows this, sorry to the op if it didn't and i mis read the thread! I do not expect school to police the lunch boxes i work in one i just think the schools that make the prefference known means that you aren't the only one trying to encourage a healthy lunch as we all know most kids would love that lunch.

Boco · 30/04/2007 21:40

scatter no, you didn't say ffs, you said ooooooh a judging thread! Sorry, i was kind of guessing rather than going back. My post was directly under yours, so that's why i thought you were referring to it.

MrsSpoon · 30/04/2007 21:40

I could really go the Galaxy tonight too, however IMO a standard sized Galaxy is too big a bar of chocolate for a child. I freaked last week when DH bought my two (almost 5 and 8) chocolate and they were standard sized bars, thought it was far too much for them.

madamez · 30/04/2007 21:40

My packed lunch used to be sandwich, crisps and chocolate bar and I have reached the ripe old age of 42 without ever puking up my own poo.

colditz · 30/04/2007 21:41

What the hell are goji berries?

Rachmumoftwo · 30/04/2007 21:41

Galaxy is not for kids at all. Let them have the Milky Ways (can you still get them) and leave the good stuff for us grown-ups!

CorkyPirbright · 30/04/2007 21:42

It's all about snobbery really, isn't it? Right, I'm off to join the "MN is shit" thread...

scatterbrain · 30/04/2007 21:43

Yes absolutely - food snobbery, judging other parents and looking down the nose at people perceived to be a lesser parent - a thoroughly odious thread in my opinion !

DaphneHarvey · 30/04/2007 21:45

I would have been and too if I saw those leftovers in a school lunch box too Emwad, if that makes you feel any better.

My DC's state school don't allow any sweets or chocolate in lunch boxes. I think thats okay. There are many hours outside school hours when you can feed your children processed sugar products, if that's what you choose to do.

Skribble · 30/04/2007 21:45

Only thing I see wrong is that Mum should have kept the galaxy for herself. Ok perhaps not put crisps in everyday.

In an ideal world kids would have perfect lunch boxes, but unfortualty not all kids eat fresh fruit and veg especially when parents not there to encourage.

emwad · 30/04/2007 21:46

yesireallycan - I didn't mean to be judgmental when I startd this thread, I was genuinely horrified at what remained in the lunchbox.
My DD has some 'junk' most days, and none of us eat anything 'organic' and I certainly don't think we're superior in any way shape or form.
think twice when starting threads in future]

Not like these lunches then?

UCM · 30/04/2007 21:46

I am sitting here typing this as my DS sits beside me eating Malteasers & ice cream.

That sounds like a load of additive shit to me.

yes I agree, some crap doesn't hurt, but the OP has told us that it's all crap.

NappiesGalore · 30/04/2007 21:46

colditz -they are feckin orrible is what they are. dont be swayed! (sposed to be the latest 'superfood'. WHATEVER)
[am so sceptical after finding out gillian mckeith is total charlatan]

i do actually like healthy food btw

LilyLoo · 30/04/2007 21:47

Emwad i guess it's more about how others interpret the thread. Not sure at which point you said they were a 'lesser parent' ffs !

scatterbrain · 30/04/2007 21:47

No no UCM - there was an empty bag - suspected of containing a healthy sandwich !!!

scatterbrain · 30/04/2007 21:48

Whats with all the FFS tonight ? About a packed lunch ?

NappiesGalore · 30/04/2007 21:48

people only get offended by food snobbery if they have a guilty concience. imo.
if you think its fine, be happy with your decisions. if you feel defensive, maybe you should think again.
