I think I am addicted to food :-(

I just do not stop eating.

I am always thinking about when I will be eating next and just love food.

I am piling the pounds on and really not sure how to manage it.

I know I need to cut calorie intake as I hate my body but then to cheer myself up I reach for the crisps, choc, biscuits etc. Vicious circle

Londonmamma · 14/04/2007 18:48

There's 'Breaking Free From Emotional Eating', by Geneen Roth. I read a lot of her stuff. She's warm and funny. Her approach is about getting totally comfortable with all foods and focusing on your emotional life.

A more step by step approach is in:
'Overcoming Binge Eating' by Christopher G Fairbur. It uses cognitive behavioural techniques and is quite directive.

One that I don't know but which looks interesting is:
'Why can't I stop Eating? - recognising, understanding and overcoming food addiction', by Debbie Danowski and Pedro Lazaro.

It is so tempting to think that if you can just find the right diet all your problems will be over...Well, I was two stone heavier than I am now when I was trying to diet because I just kept on bingeing.

Please try to make food your friend, not your enemy. Treat it with respect and it will give you pleasure without pain.

Good luck!

Londonmamma · 14/04/2007 18:49

Sorry, the second book on my list is by Christopher Fairburn

Londonmamma · 14/04/2007 18:53

Frascati - if you say 'Monday I am changing the way I eat' you will overeat till then, thinking Monday is deprivation day! Change from your very next meal. Wait till you are hungry, decide what you would like to eat, put effort into getting something nice for yourself, sit at the table with a knife and fork and ENJOY!
Stop when you are full. Write in your diary.

PPLLEEAASSEE do not say'I'll start the diet on Monday!!

snowwonder · 14/04/2007 18:54

thanks so much for that off to ammazon now really appreciate your time looking

Londonmamma · 14/04/2007 18:55

It's my pleasure - lots of luck!

Judy1234 · 14/04/2007 19:35

And look at www.promis.co.uk/content/eating/eatguide.php

I can't do links.

pesme · 14/04/2007 19:40

this book really helped me. it is entertaining and good to hear a man discussing what i thought was a purely female state of mind.

3andnomore · 14/04/2007 20:58

shall I set up a Frascati and friends weightloss thread on monday?
And we can all talk about what we are doing and how we are doing, and so on?
Also, am now half way down Jason Vales 14days Turbo charge book, and really you don't need to have all teh books I bought to get his message...this one is more general, but pretty muhc tells teh same thing as the otehr books, indeed, a lot of the mental getting ready is coppied, iykwim....haven't read his slim 4 life book, but that might just be the one that summons it al up, lol!
Anyway, am soooo ready for Monday!
I have tried those "weird and winderful" supplements, and thank god tehy don't really change the taste of teh juice...tehy make the consistency go a bit funny..i.e. powdery inbetween your teeth...but hohu...for teh greater good!
So anyway, after all that rambling, shall we do a Frascati and friend thread as off monday, for encouragement, no matter which weightloss programme we are doing?

Frascati · 14/04/2007 21:10

3andnomore ~ frascati and friends it is then

cool...as no one answered to my 7Ibs in 7 days/jason vale thread, and I know I cna do with all the support I can get, aswel, as keeping me focussed by giving the suppoirt!
I have done pretty much all the different diets/plans....lol..WW/SW/Atkins/ and just starving myself/eggnad spinach diet, and got knows what else....
I am seeking freedom from being on a diet, and be able to eat healthily without feeling deprived...

snowwonder · 14/04/2007 21:20

i will be there,

i have just spent £35.00 on books on amazon and now wondering if i really do need so many!!! might have another addiction luming!!!

snowwonder · 14/04/2007 21:21

3and no more, is the diet just juices?

Frascati · 14/04/2007 21:21

Great looking forward to starting

I feel like a barrel right now!

3andnomore · 14/04/2007 21:23

lol...I know once I get into something I go a bit over the top...if only for once I can eep it going for the longterm, then I am on a winner...
like I said Jason vales books are a bit repetitive if you got a few different ones....but they also make you remember what was written, and basically brainwashing you newly, lol!
[still very imressed and proud of my skin emoticon...flouce]

Frascati · 14/04/2007 21:24

Thing is 3andnomore, I want the way I want to eat to become a way of life.
I don't want to lose all the weight and go back to my old ways iykwim

OP posts:
3andnomore · 14/04/2007 21:25

the first 7 days it is...Juices only...it's a detox...prmosisn 7Ibs in 7 days...of course, otehr bad stuff with water, but also fat...and then he advises to do the 14 days turbochange which is some juicing plus healthy meals..with loads of suggestions in teh book...and what he said in the first book is, that Jordan/Katie Price did the first lot and then did the 2. lot until at target...i.e. she lost 2st in 3 month!

snowwonder · 14/04/2007 21:27

what i really wnat is to be able to have one biscuit and get the same satisfaction that i get when i have 6,

savoury is my major weakness i love crisps, cheese, sandwiches, savoury pastries

Frascati, I know what you mean....when I first bought my Juicer I thought I would mainly juice fruits...veggie juices really didn't seem appealing, lol...and at that time I bought jason Vales fast food book, which is a great introductiuon to juicing....and I started...uicing fruits ended me up with allergies, but so far the veggie juices haven't...and you know what, I really like them...not just a get tyhem down me thing, cos they are good!
Jason Vale is not a short term thing, it's lng term....and if you spend the money on a juicer then you will want to use it!
Donb't get the Jack Lalenne one...has reasonable, to brill reviews, but really imo is not that great...am going to get another centrifugal one and also am saving up for a masticating juicer....it's all about avoiding processed foods really!

Frascati · 14/04/2007 21:30

My big big downfall is the week before I am due on.
I am like a woman possessed. I am not a chocolate/sweet person but my god can I shovel it down that week

OP posts:
3andnomore · 14/04/2007 21:39

anything with a basis of apple and carrot and then you just add and see what happens...
I never liked celery, but juiced in small doeses, I don't even realsied I am having it!
Beetroot, at first I thought a bit earthy, but have juiced it daily for the last week at least, and it just makes the taste nice, Cucumnber just adds nice jiuce without to much of taste, which is good, as cucumber is a mood enhancer
I juiced Spinch, for my fil, who hates spinach and he really liked it and not tasted it!

Pineapple is also a great base for veggie juices, and it really does make the juices taste good!
The other day I juiced 1/2 a pineapple plus an apple and then blended it with 2 bananas, and oit was really lovely, zesty...oh, also had some gingerroot juiced with teh pineapple...it almost tasted like a milkshake but lemonade...sherbet kind, but no dairy in it!

3andnomore · 14/04/2007 21:40

Frascati...that is emotional addiction though....and that is what he really goes into in the chocolate buster book...i.e. all teh advertising and how it brainwashed us and effected our emotions!

snowwonder · 14/04/2007 21:40
