Jamie Oliver -5 ingredients Quick and easy

I'm in need of a distraction project from life - anyone fancy joining me in an attempt to cook my way through Jamie Oliver's latest?

So far .. have made Quick and easy fish curry. Made this for DM and I - went down well with us both. Used haddock as cheap and the rest was store cupboard which was handy. I was a bit heavy handed with the lime pickle and it showed in the taste so I'd def recommend to stick to his quantities there. The result was lovely and we both cleaned our plates though! Timing said 15 minutes or so and I couldn't do it in that as he had you both halving tomatoes and chopping the fish and then cooking the tomatoes all at the same time... so I did the prep in advance

Also tried Korean Rice - with Kim chi. This was a super tasty and easy lunch to put together. Really enjoyed it both of us (Dh and I). I wouldn't need the recipe next time as it's a great idea and technique to get your head around and will be good to have at my fingertips.

Plan tonight is harissa chicken tray bake.. looking forward to it!

I've seen good things about the flatbreads on here and I'm also planning those for tomorrow

@Growingboys
I made the chocolate orange shortbread this weekend too, I thought it was delicious. I followed a pp’s advice and cooked it for a bit longer than he said. I also struggled with the drizzling - seemed like the chocolate went everywhere but on the shortbread, which is a bit of a waste. Wink

Oh, and who knows what gnarly means. I love his recipes but he can be exceptionally irritating, especially all that ‘down on the ground with the kids’ bs.

BlueMonday17 · 30/10/2017 01:02

kateandme I've done the frangipane tart a few times, it was really easy (used ready-rolled puff pastry). I also used ground almonds, so I could make it in a mixing bowl rather than having to grind up whole almonds in a food processor. Really delicious and definitely the most 'cheffy' desert I've ever made so DH and kids super impressed. Very rich though! Smile

Have made the mushroom pasta - was delicious, as good as any I have eaten out.

Sticky Mango Prawns tonight. Will let you know.

I really like this book, going to try one recipe a week.

kateandme · 30/10/2017 11:14

bluemonday I did it too.all were very impressed and we are always thinking up version of it.adding some fruit.adding a few choc chips.
this weekend we painted a layer of melted choc and added some orange essence to the almond mix.oh yes.
also the shape and style of this would be now easy to adapt to other sweet or savoury flavours making it look very impressive.

MsGameandWatching · 30/10/2017 20:42

Mango prawns were nice but nice enough that I would rush to make them again. Unlike the mushroom pasta, which I am making again tomorrow.

I did the creamy mustard chicken last night, and served it with brown basmati rice and purple sprouting broccoli. It was a big hit - even my fussy DS who is only 5 declared it ‘yum’!

Lamb koftas- very nice, barely even a recipe it's so simple. Had as lunch though DH complained about portion size. Really like the rose harissa - been using it a lot

We've just started. I've only watched one episode and we already have a bunch of things lined up to try.

Steak on mushrooms and canellini last night was delicious. I used thick individual steak portions. DS2 said it was the best he'd had outside a restaurant.

Tonight it's the scallops on pea and potato mash and DS2 is making the frangipane tart. Both with some adaptations - I'm bulking up the meal using a fish fillet each with just a few scallops on top, and the paste for the tart will be a mix of almond and macadamia to use up pantry supplies.

Messy meatballs are on the plan for later in the week.

I think we're going to need the book!

Germgirl · 05/11/2017 13:52

I bought the book and made the creamy mustard chicken thing the other day. It was very nice, I added some tarragon and wine because I had both of them in but it’d have been nice without.
Served it with parpadelle. Lovely.

MotherofPearl · 05/11/2017 18:20

@Germgirl
That sounds delicious. I love tarragon with chicken. I also liked that recipe.
Last night DP made the aromatic lamb curry, which was amazing. Tender lamb and tender aubergine, and so tasty.

TeaAndBisquits · 05/11/2017 19:27

This book has been a revelation!

So far we've tried the garlic chicken which is really nice, the meatball buns which DH loved, but I thought were just okay.

We've had the pork and cheesy mash, this was delicious and both kids asked for seconds.

Tomorrow I'm trying the fish pie and I've got the bits to do the steak and asparagus stir fry thing later in the week.

All day mexican breakfast was superb - perfect for Sunday brunch!

shortaris1 · 01/01/2018 22:07

I know this is an old thread but thanks so much all. I got the book for Christmas and have been through it tonight marking recommended recipes!

FlexTimeCheekyFucker · 08/01/2018 16:22

A PP has mentioned the olive oil missing from the book recipe for Harissa Chicken Traybake, but he also used vinegar (red wine) in the video which isnt listed. He said it was really important. This pisses me off. Are there any more ingredients missing from the book?

Blondie83 · 12/01/2018 11:22

I did the pesto chicken in pastry! Kids loved it!

brokeninmoreways · 13/01/2018 07:22

The olive oil and red wine is included in his store cupboard ingredients (right at the start of the book) along with salt and pepper and possibly something else I’ve forgotten
