Jamie Oliver -5 ingredients Quick and easy

I'm in need of a distraction project from life - anyone fancy joining me in an attempt to cook my way through Jamie Oliver's latest?

So far .. have made Quick and easy fish curry. Made this for DM and I - went down well with us both. Used haddock as cheap and the rest was store cupboard which was handy. I was a bit heavy handed with the lime pickle and it showed in the taste so I'd def recommend to stick to his quantities there. The result was lovely and we both cleaned our plates though! Timing said 15 minutes or so and I couldn't do it in that as he had you both halving tomatoes and chopping the fish and then cooking the tomatoes all at the same time... so I did the prep in advance

Also tried Korean Rice - with Kim chi. This was a super tasty and easy lunch to put together. Really enjoyed it both of us (Dh and I). I wouldn't need the recipe next time as it's a great idea and technique to get your head around and will be good to have at my fingertips.

Plan tonight is harissa chicken tray bake.. looking forward to it!

I've seen good things about the flatbreads on here and I'm also planning those for tomorrow

We love the flatbreads and we are having the fish curry tonight.

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 10/09/2017 17:23

I've only made the pork burgers so far but they were great and the kids loved them (minus the salad).
Looking forward to making a few more dishes this week after a trip to the Asian store.

Reporting back. Fish curry was amazing. We added spinach, and a bit more paste than the recipe suggested to use up the jar, but really good.

GreatBigPolarBear · 10/09/2017 19:27

We've done the saffron rice and the sausage and apple bake. Both easy and eaten by the children which is a bonus!
A friend made the chocolate and cherry mousse which was divine

Chocchip88 · 10/09/2017 20:16

Tonight's dinner was the the courgette linguine. Easy prep, easy cook and really fresh and tasty.

BaDumShh · 10/09/2017 20:20

thegoodenoughwife how did the almond pastry puff turn out?

TheGoodEnoughWife · 10/09/2017 21:08

Apart from me not having proper baking paper or a flat baking sheet it was really good!

Quick, tasty, sweet treat.

GinnyBaker · 10/09/2017 22:56

Purple Dasies I reckon you'd use a bit under half the book- there is a salad chapter, a pasta chapter, an egg chapter, a veg chapter, a carby one and puddings, obviously some of the recipes in these chapters have meat in but a fair few don't.

GinnyBaker · 10/09/2017 22:58

I made the sticky lamb chops tonight.

Really gorgeous and pretty easy, but I'd echo what someone said upthread (can't scan up, on my phone) about watching him cook them as the recipe didn't include lots of info I got from watching him cook it.

NomDePrune · 10/09/2017 23:06

That was me earlier Ginny. The lamb shoulder was nice, but next time I'd soak the chickpeas for a few hours first. Went very well with couscous and could take a bit more heat - harissa or fresh chilli maybe.

Crispbutty · 10/09/2017 23:35

Another vote for the flatbreads here. So easy to make and tasted amazing.

halfbuffy · 10/09/2017 23:57

I saw an episode of this the other day...didn't realise there was a book...

tigermousewoman · 11/09/2017 09:01

He's cooking the lamb shoulder tonight - will be watching!

Buddy has a lot to answer for. His Flapjack Biscuits are really dry and will be going in the bin. I would have another go if I needed to hide fruit and nuts from fussy people.
Baked Saffron Rice a winner though!

Orangeplastic · 11/09/2017 20:56

Made the Lemony courgette linguine tonight - made a normal version and a dairy free, gluten free version too - really liked it as did ds but dd found it ok to begin with but got a bit bored with it! Loving how many of his dishes are or can be easily adapted for dairy and wheat free.

WorkingBling · 12/09/2017 15:56

I've done flatbreads - amazing. The steak with beans and mushrooms came out beautifully (although I cooked the steak my usual way with one normal size sirloin) and I did the sticky orange lamb chops which were good but neither the recipe nor the show really showed how long the carrots and garlic take - I should have left them in the pan for at least another five minutes I think.

I am really impressed with this show so far. I haven't bought the book itself yet but will do soon. It's just incredibly easy and what I like is how many of these recipes I can see the kids eating. The cabbage green sauce pasta thing I think will go down well with my DC and I am definitely going to try it.

Sesame shiitake mushrooms made - loved them. Halved the recipe for one (breakfast...) and didn't use shiitake as couldn't get them in my regular supermarket (sorry Jamie - not sure where you shop- must be waitrose) but really successful all the same and a great one I'll defiantly make again

Made the One pot fabulous fish. It had the makings of a good week day dish but it has some way to go before I would dare to describe it as approaching "fabulous"!
It took much longer than the suggested 15mins - closer to 30mins for the rice. No instructions on temp except for the beginning where it needed to be high. Continuing on high would have resulted in lots of burning - maybe it needed a lot more water?

It certainly needed a lot more flavouring - next time I'll be adding semi dried tomatoes, artichokes and a scattering of green olives - not 5! but not much more effort!

GinnyBaker · 14/09/2017 16:34

I made the flatbreads last night, the first one I rolled too thin and it was a bit dry and hard. The second one I rolled out thicker and it was really delicious!

Orangeplastic · 14/09/2017 19:16

Just watched Jamie make the Fabulous Fish - much better instructions while watching him - he's left some vital instructions out of the recipe.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/09/2017 19:22

Ginny I don't roll them I just bang them down with my hand, perfect every time Grin

Ninja12345 · 14/09/2017 19:25

I tried the green spaghetti yesterday and it was so easy and really good. Definitely making it again. Going to try leftovers for DS it tomorrow.

GinnyBaker · 14/09/2017 19:35

Will try that, thanks Dame.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/09/2017 19:38

That spaghetti looked fantastic!

halfbuffy · 14/09/2017 21:51

My book came today! So excited!

My family are coming down at the weekend and I need to feed them (including one vegetarian).

What recipes would you guys recommend from the book to feed 5 adults (with meat) and 1 without for the veggie?
