Feeling nosey and trying to work out some sort of routine now I'm back at work. Would love to know:-

1 - Do you give your children a snack when they get home from school or do you cook tea straight away?

2 - What time (roughly) do your kids have their evening meal?

3 - Do you and your DP/DH eat with children or later?

4 - Do you all eat the same meal or do you make seperate dishes for children and adults?

5 - Do your children have "supper" (ie milk and biscuit) before they get into bed?

Thanks.

well ds is only at preschool in the mornings but dd is at school
she has a snack after school
we all eat together at around 6 or 6:30
we all eat the same meal
ds goes to bed at 7:30-8 ,no supper, but has dessert after supper.
dd has a snack later in the evening but she's 15 and goes to bed later

princesscc · 24/03/2007 00:13

Hi, as I'm a cm, my routine is probably different anyway. All my mindees are fed at home, so thats after 5.30pm. Therefor my poor dd, doesn't get fed til 6ish. I don't think its really fair to have her eating in front of the other kids and equally unfair on her to have an audience! Anyway, when the kids come in, they are allowed one chocolate bar (penguin or kitkat) and after that if they want anything it comes out of the fruit bowl. We all eat the same food and have always tried to eat together, but dh's job means he is not always around. And no, dd doesn't have anything before bed, but that probably because she doesn't eat til 6! So no help there at all really!!

Linnet · 24/03/2007 00:20

dd1 is at school, dd2 isn't.

  1. yes they both usually have a snack when we get home with dd1
  2. usually around 6pm
  3. if dh is at work I eat with the dd's. If dh is home we usually eat together later on.
  4. If I'm eating with the girls we usually have the same thing. If I'm eating later with dh we usually have something different.
  5. Dd2 sometimes has a glass of milk before bed, dd1 doesn't usually have anything, having dinner at 6pm means that they aren't really that hungry before bed. dd2 goes to bed around 7.30pm, dd1 goes to bed around 8.30pm.

1 - Do you give your children a snack when they get home from school or do you cook tea straight away? They normally have some fruit, or finish off whatever's in the packed lunches if they haven't finished them

2 - What time (roughly) do your kids have their evening meal? About 6.45pm, when DH gets home

3 - Do you and your DP/DH eat with children or later? With

4 - Do you all eat the same meal or do you make seperate dishes for children and adults? All eat the same thing, except when it's something someone else doesn't like - so if we have chops, children have something else. Pasta, DS has it with out sauce. Fish DS1 has sausages or something, but no real adults dish/childrens dish, no.

5 - Do your children have "supper" (ie milk and biscuit) before they get into bed? No, not that much of a gap between dinner and bed tbh.

I've been on MN too long today. I read your question as 'Do you give your children a smack when they get home from school'..

orangegerbera · 24/03/2007 00:47

Try and give a snack on the way home from school as they are quite young and this seems to avoid 'meltdown' on way home.
Try to eat same meal but some times adapt theirs so they get chips or fishfingers while we have similar whilst try to avoid middle age spread!Believe in letting kids have 'junk' food in moderation as it's the only time in life you can!!(they are very slim).
Always try to eat together-V.important part of family life imo (we have moved home to facilitate this before).

We eat between 5 and 6pm
They have warm milk at bed time (and a cuddle!)and still look forward to it.

1 - Do you give your children a snack when they get home from school or do you cook tea straight away? Yes - they are usually starving and also want milk.

2 - What time (roughly) do your kids have their evening meal? by 5.30 most nights

3 - Do you and your DP/DH eat with children or later? depends on whether he is home on time - not usually but do at weekends

4 - Do you all eat the same meal or do you make seperate dishes for children and adults? depends on above! Also they don't like all the food we have despite bribing them!

5 - Do your children have "supper" (ie milk and biscuit) before they get into bed? Just milk - but sometimes if allowed to stay up a bit will let them have crackers or fruit.

Tortington · 24/03/2007 00:54

  1. Children have a drink and either a biscuit, piece of fruit or a few nuts. Some nights they have school clubs so don't get any snack.
  1. We eat at 5 p.m.
  1. All eat together except for the rare occasion my husband is late home - his is kept warm for him then.
  1. All have same meal. Always have done.
  1. They have drink and either fresh fruit or dried fruit/nuts. Occasionally a sandwich or bread and butter. Saturday is treat night and we share a bar of chocolate.
