Can't believe I've never tried this before! It's lovely and doesn't taste dairy free (it's the creamy garlic and herb). What vegan foods do you all love Smile

I have seen gluten mentioned a few times, just to let you know that Morrisons are selling off their gluten free foods ridiculously cheap. Good to stock up, but generally a bad sign for the future availability

LauraMipsum · 06/02/2017 20:18

Anyone want to share some seitan recipes? I have one that I made on xmas day which was very nice but I've now got a bag of vital wheat gluten and I want to try some other styles!

Whoever mentioned Nutcrafter cheeses upthread - OMG they are AMAZING. Pricey but for a treat at Christmas.... wow.

I like Tesco meat-free sausage rolls for buffets.

One of my current favourite things is 1/3 tahini to 2/3 unsweetened soy yoghurt, 1 tbsp lemon juice and 1-2 tsp sumac (if feeling poncey) as a dressing (thin out with a little water if needed). You can drizzle it on roast vegetables, salads, mix it with rice or other grains, use it as a topping for a Buddha bowl - anything really, and it makes the most boring baked potato fabulous.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/02/2017 21:35

Oooh that is clever.never thought cooking it, but does it smell horrid whilst frying!
Def pinching the celeriac for creaminess idea

FishlessCake · 07/02/2017 13:25

Just looked at the nutcrafter website Shock looks delicious. I'm putting in an order, any recommendations?

I used some of the BFree pittas to make mini pizzas for lunch today. Tomato paste, grated some of that Tesco free-from smoked soya cheese (which is acceptable melted!) and put some olives, sundried tomatoes, spinach and pine nuts on top. Yum.

PhoenixJasmine · 09/02/2017 13:37

Nutcrafter does look amazing! I am planning to experiment with making my own nut (& other stuff) cheeses, I've seen recipes using things like tapioca or agar agar to gel things into a firm cheese.

But a nutcrafter selection box over Christmas seems like an idea :)

FishlessCake · 09/02/2017 13:54

I agree the tesco smoked soya cheese is nicer melted, I have it with onion chutney on bagels Smile

Checking in to report that Oatly Creme Frâiche works incredibly well. I used it last night to recreate one of my previous go-to quick pastas - whizzing together chopped tomatoes, creme frâiche, loads of fresh dill and grated parmesan in the food processor for a really lovely fresh creamy sauce. Last night I subbed the Oatly for the dairy CF and nooch for the parmesan, and it was completely delish! I think side by side you'd be hard pressed to pick out the difference, as most of the flavour comes from the tomato and dill anyway.

It wouldn't be hard to make a homemade version of the creme
frâiche by whizzing up some oat milk and culturing it, but this did have added calcium in. And took all of a minute to whizz together whilst the pasta was cooking.

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/02/2017 08:12

Phoenix do supermarkets sell oatily crème fraiche?and were would I find that?

PhoenixJasmine · 10/02/2017 08:18

I found it in Sainsbury's, I think. Sainsbos or Tesco.

FishlessCake · 10/02/2017 08:23

My small tesco sell it with the chilled dairy free. It is lovely stuff and a complete game changer. I used sheese sweet chilli as a pasta sauce yesterday, was really nice. I'm going to try sweetcorn fritters today Smile

namechange agree about the palm oil - although it can be very difficult to avoid in 'free from' foods sometimes. The Oatly packaging does state 'sustainable sources'.

FishlessCake · 10/02/2017 16:16

Yes it can be difficult to be strict about palm oil, but we all do the best we can to avoid or buy containing 'sustainable'.
Well I didn't get around to making the fritters but plan to tomorrow. Has anyone got anything nice planned for food?
