Had it deep fried in batter last week at a pub. Minging.
I grill it at home and serve with sweet chilli sauce with salad and pitta bread.

I can't eat it Sad it aggregates my Ex Gall Bladder. Even though low fat one.

But dusted in pepper and salt and fried in a drop of olive oil, it makes good Vegetarian Fish Fingers .

'aggrevates' even

Allalonenow · 10/07/2016 23:17

I don't think it work with a batter coating, if you want a crispy coating try dipping in egg then rolling in semolina.

ratspeaker · 10/07/2016 23:50

I chopped some up and used it in a frittata the other day, along with some onions and peppers. Small bits as it doesn't crumble or melt like other cheese

  • it was a use up stuff in the fridge day and the halloumi was near its date and I had no other cheese.

Chopped and fried with spinach, chickpeas, cherry tomatoes and spices - amazing warm veggie salad. Have lost the recipe sadly but it was absolutely gorgeous.

friggingnora · 11/07/2016 06:05

Sliced, fried, fresh lime juice. Delicious.

dynevoran · 11/07/2016 06:25

The delia one is what i always do with green lentils and rocket and double the dressing.

autumnboys · 11/07/2016 06:31

Pull it apart and oven bake it with chopped onion, peppers, quartered lemon and a big spoon of harissa past.

Millie2013 · 11/07/2016 07:26

I love it deep fried in beer batter!
I also love halloumi and watermelon salad, with chilli oil dressing

I'm going to have to buy some today!

DoItTooJulia · 11/07/2016 07:32

What do you call the men who control all of the worlds cheese?

The hallouminati!

NameChange30 · 11/07/2016 07:40

That joke would work just as well with "people" instead of "men" Wink

kungfupannda · 11/07/2016 07:43

I found a brilliant halloumi pasta recipe online - can't remember where, but this is roughly it - we have this regularly:

Cook chopped onion and garlic in oil until soft but not brown (the original recipe said to put some chilli flakes in at this point but I don't do this - see later)
Chop block of halloumi into small cubes and mix in a bit of oil plus 1 teaspoon of each of ground cumin, ground coriander, garam masala, turmeric and paprika.
Add halloumi to pan and cook until it's starting to brown.
Add tin of tomatoes - I use one of the Waitress cardboard cartons of tomatoes with chilli, rather than using the chilli flakes at the start of the recipe
Add black pepper and fresh/frozen/dried coriander leaves.
Cook for about another ten to twenty minutes
Serve with pasta.

Lovely!

Yeah, but it's not my joke, so I thought I'd report it faithfully!

I love this recipe:

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3091682/sesame-halloumi-parcels-with-sweet-potato-tahini-m

Great for a vegetarian dinner party, though I adapt a few things. Double the dressing for the parcels and spoon it in rather than stirring the halloumi in it. Don't put olive oil or as much tahini as suggested in the sweet potato (which I mash rather than blend). Add leaves to the salad.

cakesonatrain · 11/07/2016 10:54

Sliced, dry-fried, plonked on top of a salad containing avocado.
I really want some now.

Loving the cheese jokes. The nacho cheese is one of my favourite jokes.

swancourt · 11/07/2016 10:59

crispy lettuce, grapes, sweet chilli and fried halloumi. Too good.

NetballHoop · 11/07/2016 11:04

Grilled halloumi, avocado and bacon makes the sandwich ever!

squoosh · 11/07/2016 11:24

Cooked in a dry frying pan and chucked in a salad with mint and orange segments. SO delicious.

weeblueberry · 11/07/2016 12:13

Fry off an onion with some garlic then add a tin of chopped tomatoes and a tin of chickpeas. Add harissa paste to taste once it's combined and then a block of chopped halloumi and a packet of spinach. Leave with the lid on until the spinach wilts then serve with some grated cheese.

We have this loads and it's really low calorie if you use low fat halloumi. We had doubts as to whether it would fill us up but the above is enough for two massive, filling portions.

ChocDee · 11/07/2016 13:06

The way we do it is sooo delicious that I am prepared the pay the eye watering price of the halloumi here in the state.

Ready?
Grill halloumi in the normal way - I dust it with some chilli powder first

Serve with watermelon and green beans.

Dressing is squeezed lemon juice with fresh mint.

Awesome sauce!!!
