Anyone used a nutribullet?

chestnut100 · 31/12/2014 16:34

Cutting out a loooong backstory, I've been advised a product like a nutribullet would be beneficial to a health condition my daughter and I share. These are apparently the best on the market but at about £100 are eyewateringly expensive for me to budget for. i dont know anyone personally who has used one, so I'm hoping some of you might be able to recommend(or not as the case may be)

Look forwards to any replies

Flavourings are great, like ginger, vanilla, lemon/lime/orange juice, cinnamon etc. I also like a savoury smoothie with an avocado (only need half as gets very thick) and tomato, spinach or green powder; great with turmeric, cumin, ginger, cayenne.

I found some veg like carrots were not v smooth but maybe I need to whizz them up more.

Takesalongtime · 03/01/2015 19:15

I've just brought the ninja kitchen set from Costco as I wanted to be able to use for other recipes. I left the skin on apples, even though recipe says peal. Are you saying to leave orange skin on?

Pinterest is great for diff smoothie ideas

bluebump · 03/01/2015 19:21

I got one on offer for £69 a few weeks ago and have used it loads. There is a good free app by Nutribullet (on the iPhone anyway) that has loads of recipe ideas on it that has given me lots of inspiration.

chestnut100 · 03/01/2015 22:22

Bluebump; great tip about the app; I'll find it tomorrow!

Apparent yes you can blend even orange peel; just a note to the person who said they blitzed the apple with skin: did you core it? Apparently apple seeds turn to cyanide when blitzed! ??

Going to try the avocado based one recommended down thread tomorrow (forgot who posted it, but thanks!)

I did put the orange in complete with peel once but it was pretty vile tbh.

Frozen blackcurrants, yoghurt, milk, chai seeds and linseed is one I have every day. Delicious.

Takesalongtime · 03/01/2015 23:02

I cored the apple - don't worry! Thanks!

Looking forward to lots of lovely things to make :)

chestnut100 · 04/01/2015 09:15

Phew, Takesalongtime! Glad to hear you aren't poisoned!

I've just had a concoction of flower sprouts (new superfood apparently?), kiwi, apple and a carrot and it was good! Quite savoury but very filling

Yes still alive :)
Chestnut that sounds yummy!
Dcs were making up their own recipes this morning- lots of berries being used. Also the odd spoonful of cocoa powder!! Haha!

DarylDixonsDarlin · 04/01/2015 15:20

My sisters and I clubbed together to buy one for DMum for Christmas, she hasn't used it yet! she muttered something about too much nice food left to eat up first Grin

I am very much looking forward to trying it next time I go round there. I made her up a little hamper of things like seeds, nuts, almond milk, sweet potato, ginger etc. to go with it, just wish she'd hurry up and try it!

chestnut100 · 04/01/2015 17:23

14575 I got mine in argos for £79.99 a few days ago...not sure how long the offer was on for though

I bought a ninja nutri £69,99 in currys sale- basically the same thing.

Its fab i make a green smoothie every morning and i already feel loads better. I use frozen spinach and unsweetened almond milk( or water) as the base and add half an avocado to thicken it up and add healthy fats - it also fills me up. Too much fruit and it makes me starving.

I do 80% green veggies and 20% fruit - aldi do a range of frozen fruit - pineapple, mango, raspberries etc. The more fruit the nicer tbh but trying to keep sugars down. I have been buying fruit from the local market and freezing it in bags so i can have more variety and means i can pick up cheap nearly over fruit and veggies.

I have been experimenting with kale, cucumber, ginger with mixed results but a far better breakfast than a crappy bowl of cereal. I am hoping my taste buds change and adapt! I used to use a blender but had to strain the chunks with my teeth and it was a faff to clean, my ninja is small and really easy to clean - i love it.

Hubby and dd love them too.

Will be great when i start 5:2 again.

MinimalistMommi · 04/01/2015 17:50

Has anyone had problems with them leaking? I know last year when I was reading about them there had been problems with leaking around the blade or something like that.

SaltySeaBird · 04/01/2015 18:08

Also looking for one for less than £99.99 - I've been looking for a few days and must have missed the Argos offer.

CarbeDiem · 04/01/2015 18:27

Mini - If you look around the seal part on the blade lid - sometimes the leak comes from there. Just make sure it's positioned correctly. Dh found when he washed it it sometimes came out a bit, he always runs his finger around it now to check.

OP - try making sauces. Dh makes a delicious fresh tomato, basil and garlic. We freeze it in bags to use for soup base or as a sauce to pasta.

I have one and it gets used every day. I'm a bugger for buying expensive appliances that then get relegated to the back of the cupboard after a few uses, but I've had my nutribullet since September and used it so much. We use it for shakes, soups, marinades, making things like guacamole etc. It's very versatile. I think it's worth paying the money for one rather than opting for a cheaper version by another brand. It's really powerful compared to similar ones.

If you look at places like Littlewoods (if you've not already got an account) they often have offers like £15/20 off your first order, and 0% interest so you could order one with the money off then just pay off the remaining balance straight away.

FelixFelix · 04/01/2015 18:37

Also good tips for people who haven't really made green smoothies before (like me who had no idea). When I first started doing them, they went all frothy and weird and I couldn't stomach drinking one. Then I found out that if you add a gelatinous fruit or vegetable to your smoothie, it will bind all of the other ingredients together and make it nice and smooth and easy to drink. So now I just add a banana or avocado to my greens Smile

I read yesterday that if you chop up and freeze cucumber and add it straight from the freezer to your smoothie, it's a good replacement for banana (if you're trying to keep sugar/carbs low). Apparently freezing cucumber sweetens it and it thickens your smoothie up.

I also read about freezing almond milk in ice cube trays to use in the nutribullet too. I never thought about doing this so I've ordered some almond milk with my shopping tomorrow to try it Grin

Wow loads of great advice on here! Keep it coming! Thanks everyone

Yes love love love my nutrinullet they are fab not like any other blender, loving the ideas on this thread especially the almond milk and cucumber Smile

BeautifulPain · 04/01/2015 20:44

*nutribullet

BrockAuLit · 04/01/2015 20:45

Bookmarking for ideas. I bought one last summer and had a 80/20 veggie/fruit smoothie for lunch three days in a row. Had a blinding headache for 24hrs, no doubt because my system wasn't used to such high quantities of raw vegetables. Have only used it for smoothies since but want to start again with the veggies. Thinking I might start 30/70 fruit/veggies and work up. I might just need the sugars.

Salene · 04/01/2015 20:56
