Tell the truth, when you are in a supermarket, do you check out other people's trollies, and feel slightly smug????

I do! I can't help it! I'm all judgemental, but at least silently so. If I see sunny delight and a 6 pack of 2l coca cola, I can't help but feel superior!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yesterday i went to get party stuff and my trolley was full of sweeties, popcorn, doughnuts, cookies etc. At the checkout the woman behind me had a trolley full of just fruit & veg. I was very relieved when my DD loudly asked for a packet of raisins!

oxocube · 17/09/2006 20:07

I look at all the stuff in other peoples' trollies and think 'shit, I've forgotten loo roll, bugger, no cat food, damn, I needed a lemon' etc etc etc. Am a crap shopper. Go to shops with eminently sensible ds (11) who watches me buying olives, nice cheese etc and says, but do we have milk, did you get flour and eggs, what about butter?

malory, you can feel smug about how much more they are spending than you though....

goodness, this is embarassing. I am ashamed of feeling smug, honestly I am. Thought I was the only one, but now realise that other people are probably looking at MY trolley and feeling smug!

FluffyCharlotteCorday · 17/09/2006 21:16

Sometimes yes, of course, it's the only fun thing about supermarket shopping.

And sometimes I feel embarrassed about the contents of my own. Or amused, as I see someone else raising their eyebrows at mine. Especially if I've bought all the veg at the market that week.

Had a lovely chat with someone behind me the other day, who said when I put the wine down on the conveyor belt "Oh thank God for that! At least you drink - I was beginning to think you were some kind of saint!"

wheresthehamster · 17/09/2006 21:18

I'm always embarassed about having 'Heat' or 'Closer' in my trolley and keep it face down incase I see anyone I know.
I was behind a couple the other day who had two large trolleys. One was filled with white sliced bread and packets of sliced meat, the other with coke and cat food. They were all Tesco's generic brand. I was fascinated thinking about their diet then thought they probably ran a catering business or something. Ugh.

I didn't need to go to the supermarket one day but wanted to stock up on cheap (17p) fizzy water. So filled the whole trolley up with fizzy water, plus one bottle of red wine (half price) and a piece of steak (special offer).

LOL at the looks I got!
