Ds3 would swap me for a packet of tesco finiest corned beef.

He's such a picky, fussy eater that I danced a little jig when he discovered it.

Sardines, OK, an oblong tin. Albeit with round corners, of course, so no angles.

A good sausage, good grief, yes, I'd prize above rubies.

moondog · 24/08/2006 16:54

Tinned mussels are fabulous.
They are my Madeleines.

I don't mean a gourmet sausage,just a regular school dinner type.

Hmmm, don't know about any of them, frankly.

Tinned mussels are really hard to find round here, dammit; they were a useful staple in our cupboards.

leander · 24/08/2006 16:58

My kids love corned beef hash with spring onions and a bit of cheese on top,Ds also loves tongue, not exactly wholesome food but they like it.

LadyTophamHatt · 24/08/2006 16:58

I'd rather eat my own head that eat a hoof sausage.

Sausages are NOT meant to crunch we you bite them and that what school dinner sausages do. and burger van sauasages

I am a sausage snob.

noddyholder · 24/08/2006 16:58

We used to love corned beef stew as kids covered in brown sauce.Have never had it since and know it is probably rubbish but I want to make it now it was yummy

Anchovy tins have round corners and anyway I get mine in JARS and in any case even though I am so addicted to anchovies I do get them in jars they don't pass the wholesomeness test being full of dreadful salt and so I rest my case about nothing wholesome ever coming in a tin with pointed corners.

my mother used to cook and press fresh ox tongue.

And FYI SallyStrawberry, the outer layer of the tongue is peeled off after cooking and before you press it.

(and it was yummy)

moondog · 24/08/2006 17:03

How would one do a lamb'sheart?
Braise it? Stuff it?

Who eats tongue now?
When I was a kid, elderly folk seemed to live on it (with lettuce andsalad cram and pallid boiled aggs)
