genius/mind-blowing food combinations

About 2 years ago dh and i suddenly became pretty skint.

Now that I've adjusted (it took me a while) i've pretty much nailed the weekly shop and recipes so that we still eat well for roughly a quarter of what we used to spend. We eat a lot of soups, pasta sauces, stews and bulk a lot of things out with carbs so that we don't ... you know... die. (only messin'!)

I had some leftover rice once and threw it into bowl of tomato soup for my DS lunch. He loved it and it's now his fave. My mum then told me how her mother made her tomato soup and mash. Tried. Loved... Actually that might be his fave.

Do you guys have any fave food combos? Please share!

Mushy peas and mint sauce. Sounds gross... tastes lovely.

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 20/02/2014 18:31

Shitake mushrooms and chipotle chilli (as a flavour combo in chilli, not just those two ingredients alone!). Both deliciously smokey - they really work well together.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/02/2014 18:40

Creme caramel with sea salt on.
Chocolate and/or coffee in a chilli.

mrspremise · 20/02/2014 18:40

Toast and honey with goat's cheese. Sounds wrong, but it's so, so right...

TyneTeas · 20/02/2014 18:54

lime pickle sandwiches (don't judge me!)

McFox · 20/02/2014 19:01

The sandwich shop beside my office does baked potatoes with mozzarella, cheddar, tuna mayo, pesto, rocket and black olives - it sounds revolting but it's so amazing! There's a few of us addicted to it Smile

Marmite on toast with crunchy peanut butter on top. Tastes 'extra savoury'.

squarecircle · 20/02/2014 19:34

Toast with peanut butter, then a thin layer of mayonnaise on top. Not healthy, but tasty...

CandyKate · 20/02/2014 20:52

I love all kinds of cheese and honey. Also a strong cheddar on digestive biscuits. Yum.... Honey drizzled on a blue cheese salad. Grilled goats cheese and honey. I could go on...

One that is probably a bit weirder, mushy peas with fried eggs. First tried that one in my student days.

NewBlueShoesToo · 20/02/2014 20:53

Melon with balsamic vinegar and grated ginger.
