cos mine sure as hell don't (despite whispers of food policing)
It would be the equivalent of me getting through a large twiggy broom.

Lol @ broom.

Dd likes carrot sticks if she can dip them in humous, otherwise, she is not interested. Both 14yo DS1 & 12.5yo DS2 like carrot sticks too. Celery is grim though, we all hate that stringy crap.

Blu · 21/06/2006 11:04

DS won't eat either.
And why would you feed celery to a small child? It has no nutrients exceot water, and children shouldn't be eating excess 'bulk' in the form of nutirent-free fibre!

Whizzz · 21/06/2006 11:05

My DS will eat carrot sticks !! He sometimes asks for them in his lunch box !
(not tried celery on him)

misdee · 21/06/2006 11:05

no, but dd3(16months) goes mad for corn on the cob!

cupcakes · 21/06/2006 11:05

ds likes carrot sticks and has to have them instead of cooked carrots at mealtimes (exasperating but I suppose they have more vitamins).
Both he and dd hate celery.

misdee · 21/06/2006 11:06

oh actually, dd1 likes carrot sticks now. i have offered them for years, but its opnly since starting school that she has taken to them. i often pack her a small tub of carrots sticks for her breaktime snack.

moondog · 21/06/2006 11:06

Apparently celery has a negative calorie count-you expend more by chewing it than ingesting!

Nemo1977 · 21/06/2006 11:06

ds will eat cooked carrot sticks but not raw.

LadyTophamHatt · 21/06/2006 11:06

Why anyone would eat celery is beyond me!!

Vile stuff!!!

tenalady · 21/06/2006 11:07

Mine asks for them, oh and dont forget the cucumber batons mummy!

moondog · 21/06/2006 11:07

Chopped celery is a magnificent addition to a pasta sauce or a stew however...

Jenswish · 21/06/2006 11:07

I used to eat them non-stop when I was little and raw cauliflower as well (come to think of it I still do)

oliveoil · 21/06/2006 11:08

dd2 likes carrots AND celery

and so did dd1 before she turned Devil and decided to eat only cheese in all its forms

Frenchgirl · 21/06/2006 11:09

dd likes carrot batons
one of her friends came over and had nothing but mountains of carrot batons for lunch once

Bumblelion · 21/06/2006 11:10

My son, aged 9, loves cucumber and raw carrot. Currently eats about 4 cucumbers a week, more if I bought them. The only other vegetable he likes is sweetcorn, baby corn and broccoli. Doesn't eat tomatoes, lettuce, apples, bananas, etc. although he does eat grapes and strawberries.

If he could, he would eat cucumber (chunks about 4 inches long) for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

CountessDracula · 21/06/2006 11:10

dd adores them

GeorginaA · 21/06/2006 11:10

I thought celery still counted towards your 5 a day though?

Greensleeves · 21/06/2006 11:12

Er - my sons adore carrot/celery/pepper/cucumber sticks, especially with houmous, and recently chose to eat them instead of biscuits/cakes at my birthday lunch Sorry if it doesn't comply with your assumptions, but there it is.

WelshBoris · 21/06/2006 11:14

this week DD (21 months) is mostly eating

chicken chow mein
cheese
water
nice ham
white bread
youghurts
jelly

and that is it
no more no less

WelshBoris · 21/06/2006 11:14

why cant i spell today

Bozza · 21/06/2006 11:15

DS likes carrot sticks. DD not interested. Not really tried them with celery. DS also a big cucumber fan. Often send him to school with one of these if he is getting sniffy about the fruit selection. We don't really do raw celery although I love celery soup and also add it to various dishes such as stews, meatloaf etc.

Jazzi · 21/06/2006 11:21

Well I hate to sound smug, but both my boys eat celery sticks and carrot sticks, and to add insult to injury - rice cakes!!!

puddle · 21/06/2006 11:21

Ds loves both. DD loves carrots but agrees with me that celery is the veg of the devil.

Mine also love wholemeal pasta which I notice is getting a beating on the other thread - all their friends also eat it quite hapily when at my house.

JonesTheSteam · 21/06/2006 11:23

Both of mine like carrot sticks. They also like eating salad - lettuce, cucumber, tomato - and DD has a real thing for yellow and orange pepper at the moment.

DD has taken carrot sticks to school as part of her packed lunch today.

I don't tend to buy celery as I don't really like it myself raw - if I buy it it's to go in spag bol or stews or something.

meowmix · 21/06/2006 11:31

DS loves em. He's just messing with us, lulling us into a false sense of security in preparation for his teenage years tho.

However he will not, under any circumstances, eat lettuce though. And when I was pg the mere sight of a lettuce leaf had me running to a bathroom. He MEANS it.
