cos mine sure as hell don't (despite whispers of food policing)
It would be the equivalent of me getting through a large twiggy broom.

Cupcakes, funnily enough I think carrots are a bit more nutritious if cooked. Like tomatoes. But raw carrots are nice, esp with hummous etc.

waterfalls · 21/06/2006 11:38

Dts (2.6) love all veg, but only when cooked, if I put a plate of veg and a plate of crisps in front of them, they would opt for the veg every time

Jazzi · 21/06/2006 11:38

I know this has probably been said many times, so excuse me as I am new to MN. But what is wrong with our children eating healthily? So many threads are bad-mouthing mums that give healthy food to children. Is it just a hint of jealousy, or shall I bin my felafel and brown rice and give my 2 ds fruit shoots and chicken twizzlers just so I don't offend!!

Chandra · 21/06/2006 11:39

Not mine, but he demands broccoli with the same excitement as another child would do for chocolate!

SaintGeorge · 21/06/2006 11:39

My DS2(5) likes most raw veg - I have to wrestle it off him to cook the stuff.

He loves celery. It might be empty calories (or negative ones if picky) but I would prefer him to eat that than sweets. I don't force the veg on him though - the weirdo picks it for himself

PrettyCandles · 21/06/2006 11:43

Ds loves them dunked in sweet chilli sauce.

FlameBoo · 21/06/2006 11:48

DD likes carrot sticks. I would feed anyone celery - tis just plain evil

Bozza · 21/06/2006 11:49

Hmmm moondog - the carrot batons are proving rather popular....

alexsmum · 21/06/2006 11:53

both of my ds's love carrots and celery and most other vegetables(except mushrooms which have to be heavily disguised)
ds1 especially would happily sit and have a plate of veggies for a meal.the veg/salad is always the first thing eaten on the plate and we have to encourage him to eat the rest.
he has salad in his lunchbox everyday.

alexsmum · 21/06/2006 11:54

oh and s2 who is 2 likes raw onion.

dublindee · 21/06/2006 11:58

DS has loved all the friut and veg I've tried him with (apart from Cauilflower - he hates it!) Haven't tried celery but he LOVES:
Carrotts, Peas, Shrooms, Green Beans, Sprouts, Parsnips, Cabbage. Loves salad and is a fruit freak.

That said - he's got a really sweet tooth loves cakes and biscuits and CHOCOLATE.
I personally try not to give him these but think the odd treat won't kill him and prefer not to ban stuff (I'm overweight and want DS to have healthy relationship with food).
Besides the grandparents would be upset if they couldn't spoil him a bit now and again!

Tommy · 21/06/2006 12:01

mine are in the weird "like healthy food" club too I'm afraid - carrot and cucumber sticks for lunch every day
DS1 particuarly weird - he is going to a party at a soft play place next week and has to learn to like pizza before he goes

Blossomhill · 21/06/2006 12:03

Mine love carrots sticks, will even eat a normally just eat a carrot that is peeled.

Also mine will eat all fruit and most veg (blows rasberry )

notagrannyyet · 21/06/2006 12:12

Celery is a bit like marmite you either love it or hate it.Mine hate it.They eat all other salad stuff and they like all veg too apart from swede.I sometimes eat celery because I know digesting it uses up more cals than it contains. Then I don't feel guilt about eating chocolate! DH thinks I'm mad

hana · 21/06/2006 12:14

my 4 year old has finally s tarted eating carrot sticks - very finely chopped and usually dipped in plain greek yogurt. v pleased as she eats so few veggies
I have been persevering for 2 years now!!!

Arabica · 21/06/2006 14:27

Haven't read all this, but when he was 4 DS suddenly started liking carrot sticks, having spat them out consistently since he was 6 months old. He also loves baby spinach and in fact every other vegetable/fruit that he has tried at a friend's house or I haven't tried to push him into eating!

singersgirl · 21/06/2006 14:28

We had one to tea the other day. Actually I know a few who like carrot batons. Celery is less popular.

MeAndMyBoy · 21/06/2006 14:29

Ds loves carrot and cucumber sticks, celery don't know haven't tried him with it yet lol

KateF · 21/06/2006 14:31

dd2 adores cucumber and cherry tomatoes but dd1 looks at them as though they were poison! No takers for celery here though

TwinsetandPearls · 21/06/2006 14:33

Dd adores carrot but not celery.

Gingerbear · 21/06/2006 14:33

DD likes red pepper and cucumber better than carrots. Cooked carrots are fine, celery she will chew then spit out.

(No wonder yorkiegirl frowned at me disapprovingly when I put celery sticks in DD's party food boxes)

tortoiseshell · 21/06/2006 14:34

dd loves them!

bogwobbit · 21/06/2006 14:54

My ds who is the fussiest boy ever loves carrot sticks. He won't eat them cooked (or in fact eat any other vegetable) but he loves his carrot sticks. Celery however is a different matter

NotQuiteCockney · 21/06/2006 14:55

Celery is a big hit with my DS1 ... with peanut butter in it.

And both my boys like sweet peppers.

I think carrot batons are a reasonable hit, dunno, tend not to serve them.
