Would you like to help us test recipes for the Mumsnet Cookbook?

CatherineHMumsnet · 24/09/2012 13:02

Shhh .. don't tell everyone but we're working on a top secret new project in the form of The Mumsnet Cookbook and we need your help.

We'd like to get together a Mumsnet Cookbook cookery group to stop us from piling on the pounds help us test these shortlisted recipes.

Each volunteer will be allocated a recipe which they'll then cook for their family and give us some feedback on how easy, hard, good, bad, expensive etc they are and whether they'd make it again. All the recipes chosen were submitted over the years by Mumsnetters, so there shouldn't be any outlandish Shock or particularly difficult to source ingredients - and they should all be pretty easy to make (we hope!).

As a thank-you, we'll be putting everyone who helps out into a prize draw to win a Bloomsbury cookbook.

And if that's not enough of an incentive, everyone who helps will have their *Mumsnetter nickname featured in the cookbook's acknowledgements.

Looking at the ingredient for the sticky toffee pudding, all are in "oz" units. Please use the metric system, all recipes I use use it now and I I have no idea what 6 oz of dates look like (I am not British).

DialMforMummy · 02/11/2012 09:30

Ok I have now spotted the conversion chart. Still, I think at leads both units would more useful than just the imperial.
Gawd, I am grumpster this morning....

Just completed the feedback form for my second recipe (Thai lemongrass, chicken, mushroom broth). Sorry, I forgot to take photos. It was so yummy that I'd be happy to cook it again and take photos if you need them. Just let me know.

Melty · 03/11/2012 18:57

Made that Mushroom and Brocolli Soup. It was delish. Didnt bother with the cream expept for a swirl but it was lovely. And I am not really a fan of Brocolli!

DialMforMummy · 03/11/2012 19:38

Right, just done the sticky toffee pudding. Great cake but the recipe needs serious tweaking. For starters, there is no sugar quantity given for the cake mix (I added about 160g, it rescued it). Also the cooking time is not to be followed, oven should be at about 175/180 and the cake should stay there for about 20 mins or so.
Apart from that, the cake was yummy.
Next!
(seriously though, I can make more recipes if needs be)

Thanks for the link Melty.

CatherineMN - I have a photo of the Rainbow Pasta Salmon. Please pm me if you want it....

I've just filled in the feedback form for breakfast bars, will email you a photo when I upload them to my computer later.

CatherineHMumsnet · 05/11/2012 12:19

Looks like everyone's been busy over half term. Thanks for all the pictures you've sent over. Has everyone who had a second recipe to test filled in their feedback forms?

CatherineHMumsnet · 08/11/2012 15:11

Had wildly varying responses to our Banana Muffins recipe. Anyone else fancy trying it out for us to help us work out whether it stays in the book or not?

OP posts:
MrsJohnDeere · 08/11/2012 15:48

I can do a batch of banana muffins. Recipe sounds ok....

snowballinashoebox · 08/11/2012 15:57

I can give those a whirl too, a bit more tempting than pea soup.

MrsJohnDeere · 08/11/2012 16:26

I have taken the liberty of making some. They are in the oven as we speak (anything to avoid ironing). Am deeply sceptical now. The raw mix tastes horrible!

snowballinashoebox · 08/11/2012 17:30

odd, looking at the ingredients you would have thought it tasted ok. What are they like cooked?

MrsJohnDeere · 08/11/2012 17:48

Actually taste ok. Could do with an extra dimension (choc chips?) and a bit more sugar, perhaps. Dcs love them - have just eaten 2 each. Very, very quick and easy to make.
