Will do. Just waiting for the girls to go to sleep, Dh to come home and the 40,000 other things I've got to do tonight and then I can make my cream cheese topping and ice them. I'm crap at icing so this should be great fun :o

Trazzletoes · 15/08/2012 20:32

GWen, yes you certainly can use that method! When I got mine, I was terrified about adding some dry ingredients and some wet, then a bit more dry and a bit more wet (or whatever the KA instructions say). In the end I just used all my usual methods and they've been absolutely fine.

Trazzletoes · 15/08/2012 20:32

Btw, KA icing is incredible. Yum!

crazy8 · 15/08/2012 22:15

I always put a tea towel over the KA at the very start to stop flour/icing sugar ly everywhere. Start on a low speed.

crazy8 · 15/08/2012 22:16

Ly meant to flying oops!

GWenlockMaryLacey · 15/08/2012 22:23

Phew, I was adding tiddly bits every 5 minutes terrified of breaking the thing. I usually weigh everything straight in the bowl and turn on the mixer so I shall resume my normal approach tomorrow :)

Haven't made the 'frosting' yet, DH won't clear out of the kitchen.

And I've called it Stevie (Candy Apple > Apple > Steve (Jobs) --> except I thought it was a girl so it's Stevie :))

GWenlockMaryLacey · 15/08/2012 23:21

Oh. My. God.

Apart from my red velvet cakes being, well....brown velvet cakes (entirely user error. I underestimated the amount of red colouring needed. They looked lovely and red on the outside :(), they are absolutely awesome. Light, melty, soft...aaaahhhhhhh

Don't the KAs have a splash guard you can puton to avoid flying ingredients?

crazy8 · 16/08/2012 09:23

Have you seen how far icing sugar can travel when the DC put the KA on warp speed? My DD knows the to always put a tea towel over the KA as she quite often 'accidentally' turns the KA on too high.

GWenlockMaryLacey · 16/08/2012 09:27

I had the cover on and was mixing at a very sedate pace but I still has to dust it down afterwards!

GWenlockMaryLacey · 16/08/2012 15:14

Any good baking happening today? I'm doing vanilla biscuits and a banana cake this evening.

Have I totally taken over this thread? Blush

Kveta · 16/08/2012 16:38

nothing here, as DD is having a demanding day, but DS helped me make a choc chip yoghurt sponge yesterday, which should see us through the end of the week!

what are your vanilla biscuits? I must find some good sugar cookie recipes for DS's birthday party.

BrianButterfield · 16/08/2012 16:54

Currently have dough kneading for naans later - the ones in the shop were stupidly expensive so I decided to try and make them. Am intending to bake them on a pizza stone, which is a tip I read somewhere. I do love the dough hook as I could never be arsed to knead for long enough by hand and ended up with some decidedly leaden stuff.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 16/08/2012 17:25

Red velvet cupcakes this evening :) and cream scheese frosting!!!!

Choc chip yoghurt sponge? I NEED that in my life!

Kveta · 16/08/2012 18:18

trazzle it's one of my more made up cakes. I tend to do a vic sponge mix (weigh however many intact eggs I can find, then same butter/sugar/sr flour), add vanilla paste) and bung in other stuff from the fridge or cupboard.

in this case, most of a tub of vanilla yoghurt, some cocoa powder, and a bag od choc chips. 3 egg mix, in a square tin, maybe 8 inch sq.

all a bit haphazard!!

Kveta · 16/08/2012 18:24

oh, and next time will use plain yog, as this one is a bit too sweet. although creme fraiche has been the best addition yet.

GWenlockMaryLacey · 16/08/2012 22:05

Well my banana cake is still stodgy, despite a good thorough mixing. So I'll have to accept I'm shite at banana cakes.

Not sure I can be arsed to make the biscuits now. I wish everyone would sod off and leave me alone so I can spend an entire day playing with it.

crazy8 · 17/08/2012 00:29

Use Mary Berrys recipe for the best banana cake in the world. She uses two loaf tins although as an 'expert' I use one 23cm round tin and it's so yummy!!

Kveta · 17/08/2012 08:40

or this banana cake - even more amazing with a tablespoon of mincemeat rather than the sultanas.
