I'm new to Ocado and have just placed my first two orders. Their own brand stuff (so far) tastes much better than the dire Asda food we've had recently. What do you buy from Waitrose which is better than standard supermarket stuff? I'm pregnant and want to indulge now the morning sickness is wearing off Grin

Tell me your favourites go on..

This is devine with cheese and biscuits, but also good to chuck on a pizza, or in a tomato sauce with pasta

ToryLovell · 26/06/2012 10:07

divine

CogitoErgoSometimes · 26/06/2012 10:07

There's one product I haven't found elsewhere and it is their 'Love Life' combination of brown basmati, wild and red camargue rice. Delicious.

ToryLovell · 26/06/2012 10:07

Oh and the new york cheesecake is delicious

spammertime · 26/06/2012 10:10

We prefer their own wheat biscuits to brand weetabix, same with their tomato ketchup. Their redbush tea is v good if you like that.

Will wrack my brains for more!

spammertime · 26/06/2012 10:12

Sorry, I've done v boring things there!

Their own version of posh icecream is really nice, plus it's on 2 for £5 at the moment. And also their pizzas at £4 each are good, but are on 2 for £5 as well.

throckenholt · 26/06/2012 10:20

Waitrose pies are very good. And their own brand breaded chicken (fresh although frozen is ok) and fish are good. Fresh beefburgers are very good too.

Check for the offers - very good value to buy then and stock up the freezer.

SilverSixpence · 26/06/2012 10:22

lovely keep them coming! I've had a couple of waitrose pies, they are great for picnics!

I base our weeks meals around their 3 for £10 meat. A whole chicken does a roast and leftovers for a curry, then a pack of mince does two meals and then I pick one other thing

The pies have lots of meat filling, whereas other shops are often a bit scarce on meat or the meat is gristly and chewy. I've never had poor quality food from Waitrose.

Their sliced fruit loaf is well spiced and fruity and the frozen pastries are good to whip out and bake for a nice breakfast.

littlemissnormal · 26/06/2012 13:39

The stewing steak in the 3 for £10 offer is gorgeous, as is the whole chicken.

DP is a big fan of their ground coffees and they do a 12 pack of mixed mini bread rolls which are lovely and great for lunch boxes.

throckenholt · 26/06/2012 14:02

the bacon is good too, and the sausages. In fact all the meat is good quality.

Like Tory I base weekday meals round their 3 for £10 meats, especially the ones that you just need to pop into the oven with no prep required!
www.ocado.com/webshop/promotion/buy-any-3-for-10/28633849?showImages=yes

So far I can recommend
The lamb kebabs (delish in pitta with Tzatziki)
The whole chicken - does for a roast and meal or salad next day
Chicken and chorizo kebab (i did it with couscous)
Chicken drumsticks and thighs with garlic and herb marinade - really tender and tasty. Also does for 2 meals as you get a kilo of them!
The prawn tails were great in a stir fry.

My absolute favourite for a treat is this
[www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Pork-Loin-Rack-of-Ribs-with-Red-Eye-BBQ-Rub--Drizzle-Waitrose/55738011?from=search&tags¶m=ribs&parentContainer=SEARCHribs]

Also like their sourdough bread, salt your own crisps (for DS as I try to limit his salt intake so take the salt bag out!) and baked beans.

ceeveebee · 26/06/2012 14:39

I base my meal plan round their 3 for £10 too, so highly annoyed today when only 1 of the 3 items was delivered and the others not even substituted!

The part boned chicken breasts are fantastic, either 4 for 2 fresh or £8.99 for 6 frozen, lovely in coq au vin, with a mushroom sauce or midweek roast if can't be bothered with a whole chicken.

nannyl · 26/06/2012 14:39

i agree with waitrose weetabix being better than "weetabix"

am also a waitrose early grey tea convert

they do some yummy housmous

there "typical bog standard" sausage are much nicer than other bog standard sausages. (and british pork)

the do some really nice flavour high juice cordials that i havent seen anywhere else. (try the elderflower one, yummy!)

all their own brand pork is british which is a big thing for me.

thestringcheesemassacre · 26/06/2012 16:25

Pre made angus burgers with chilli - delicious
Beetroot marinated in sweetfire chilli
Breaded frozen chicken gougons
Most of their own branded bread
Quiches and pies - agree

TheSkiingGardener · 26/06/2012 18:44

The jumbo sausages from the meat counter are excellent, as are the packs of pork and apricot, or spicy sausages.

The bone in chicken breasts are lovely, and I will second the fact that the Nee York cheesecake is the best around.

The Leckford Estate flours are good, as is the LoveLife range of bread flours and other stuff.

Also the dark chocolate Choc Ices.

ToffeePenny · 26/06/2012 20:20

Their own brand mango chutney (in a hot garlic & coriander mini naan bread stuffed with chilli crab mayo and sliced avocado)

happyhorse · 26/06/2012 20:32

Passion cake

SardineQueen · 26/06/2012 20:49

new york cheesecake is lush
we got these fishfingers recently here they are brilliant. They are expensive each but hUGE so I give my young children 1 each rather than 2 or 3 of the normal ones. And they have real proper chunks of fish in them and are delicious.

SardineQueen · 26/06/2012 20:55

Yes also to hummus and pizzas as mentioned
Their meat is all good
If you are feeling flush the indian ready meals are delicious.
Fresh squid "from the counter" is excellent value and always fresh and delicious
Also great value is ocado pork fillet. We have had it a few times and is always tender and delicious. Have done chinese types stuff with it but judging by the comments on reviews it works well in lots of dishes.

liveinazoo · 26/06/2012 21:00

their brand special k is nicer than kellogs
love their yogurts too

SardineQueen · 26/06/2012 21:01

Do I win a prize for over-use of the word "delicious"???!!!

Chewbecca · 26/06/2012 21:02

Their fresh pesto is really lovely and the essential coleslaw is better than many places top end coleslaw. WR couchillo olives are our favourites.
I'm not keen on their fresh essential chicken actually, find it a bit tough and watery and have stopped buying it. Perhaps I need to try the corn fed.

Chewbecca · 26/06/2012 21:04

Ooh and Malaysian chicken curry fresh soup, yum
