Mary Berry's chocolate rum cake, but using cherry brandy instead.

I shall post pics and a review. Please do the same for your bakings!

Can I have a piece when it's ready? Sounds yum.

P.s. marking my spot for pictures.

MrsKitty · 27/04/2012 08:14

Yesterday I baked a cinnamon nutella cake. It was bloody lovely.

Today, there is none left.

Normaprice · 27/04/2012 08:24

MrsK, can we have recipe Wink

LordFlasheart · 27/04/2012 08:25

MrsKitty- that sounds great- could you possibly link/post recipe?

Cake is cooling. Cant believe cake + ganache = 4 bars of chocolate Grin

Can anyone advise on this?

Choc cake looks fine, recipe says fill & ice with ganache. I also have some brandy soaked cherries (bottled) that I would like to incorporate somehow.

Could I put them inside on top of some ganache, or would it make the cake soggy?

I'm making spiced apple cake and a steak and ale pie - there's pastry so vaguely baking! Might make a chocolate guinness cake/muffins as I have some left over cream cheese unless anyone else has any new and exciting ideas?

If the cherries were well drained they would probably be ok on top of the ganache, bit Black Forest Gateux ish? Or wait until you serve and artfully spoon some on each piece rather than risk wrecking all your work!

Recipe

Sorry for the delay - I'm on night shift this week and had posted just before I went to sleep. It's really easy though so there's plenty time to whip one up in time for tea if you like Grin.

I probably added rather more nutella than the recipe states, and in smaller, more frequent blobs.

Normaprice · 27/04/2012 16:56

Nutella cake in the oven!

LordFlasheart · 27/04/2012 18:25

Cake picture on profile!

Cake is very dense, lovely and moist, and ganache worked well. There is a faint taste of cherry brandy. I am serving with some cherries in brandy. I think creme fraiche would work well too.

I rate my cake 7 out of 10 and would make again.

Nutella cake looks good- I'll try that once I have got some hazlenuts.

Just done a batch of artisan bread loaves. DCs had some fresh for tea with cream cheese and the rest I have ccut in half to take out in emergencies.

Dead easy to make with recipe in link and no special equipment but a bowl and a baking tray and no kneading required either.

Flash - just a little bit envious you can do ganache icing. It defeats me but got good advice on other baking thread. I've been faffing about with it too much apparently. Grin

LordFlasheart · 27/04/2012 19:10

have bookmarked that bread, sopunds great, the idea of doing a bit each day. Thanks MoreBeta.

Yummy thread!
Yesterday DS1 baked Poffins, which are apparently muffins eaten by Pokemon HmmGrin]
And today I baked a parkin and a lemon drizzle cake, and pizza

LordFlasheart · 28/04/2012 18:34

Can I just say the cake served with vanilla ice-cream and some cherries was very good.

This afternoon I made coconut, lime and blueberry slice. Quite a healthy recipe and utterly delish!

NettoSuperstar · 28/04/2012 18:47

I baked this carrot cake earlier.
It's delicious.
I subbed raisins for sultanas, as that's what I had in, and used satsumas instead of orange, again, I had them in.
Highly recommended.

PotteringAlong · 28/04/2012 18:49

I'm going to try this

stealthsquiggle · 28/04/2012 21:47

Decisions, decisions. Do I bake tomorrow for work on Monday or do they, in fact, not deserve it?

MrsKitty · 29/04/2012 03:30

Well, that would depend on whether or not you're feeling a bit party-planning-bereft or not Grin. I usually bake stuff for my own benefit - because I find it relaxing. If there's any left for work colleagues once I'm done, then they get lucky.

MrsKitty · 29/04/2012 03:31

Just re-read that. Should clarify that I mean they get lucky with a nice bit of cake or some cookies. Not anything else Blush

stealthsquiggle · 29/04/2012 22:12

Well, they are out of luck today. We were out all day and there was no power this morning before we left.

stealthsquiggle · 03/05/2012 00:27

I may have got a little carried away tonight. Tomorrow's team meeting will be getting victoria sandwich, manor cake, mars bar crispie cake and 2 cupcakes for birthday people. They will not, on reflection, be getting the brownies - the DC can have those, as well as the results of me playing with my new cake pop maker.

TheFlyingFishFinger · 06/05/2012 16:56

I made a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache today. The cake recipe I used called for sunflower oil instead of butter, it was super mega light and moist.

MrsHende · 06/05/2012 16:58

Today I made Nigella's donut muffins for the first time - flippin' delicious!

Also some good old flapjacks, yum!
