Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!

It is so light and fluffy, I can't believe it. I normally crap at baking. This is such a hit!

Sadly my mixer bowl is inthe dishwasher following my mammoth cookie session yesterday...

MrsSpoon · 27/01/2006 14:58

SD, I make Nigella's loaf one too, thought it looked similar, although I like the idea and that it's more of a traybake and has icing on the top, in that regard it reminds me of The Dinner Lady carrot cake. Looking forward to trying this, just depends if they lemons at the shop after the School run (Tesco delivery comes tomorrow but I want Lemon Drizzle Cake today!).

MarsOnLife · 27/01/2006 22:05

Clearly Nigella spent the day looking through my cake tins.

MrsSpoon · 27/01/2006 22:12

LOL!

I couldn't make lemon drizzle cake today as I had no lemons. Did make the carrot cake out of Dinner Lady, as I had promised DS2 we were going to make a cake. I've had too many pieces of it and caught myself eating the leftover icing, now have that horrible sugar rush feeling. You'd think I would know by now, not to eat the icing! Grrrrr!

Got a busy weekend ahead so my first attempt at Lemon Drizzle will be midweek. Will report back.

MarsOnLife · 27/01/2006 22:15

Make sure you do.

My plan is to RULE THE WORLD with my lemon drizzle cake [mwhahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa]

LOOBYLOU2 · 27/01/2006 22:16

Nigella's Lemon syrup cake is abs Fab!
suggest invest in Domestic Goddess book - fantastic cakes!!

MrsSpoon · 27/01/2006 22:20

Cake re-entering my world is having a negative effect on my diet though, have you secret plans of fattening us all up Marslady?

MarsOnLife · 27/01/2006 22:24

mais oui! lol

I have Nigella's book but she started in my house, borrowing my recipes. lol

MrsSpoon · 27/01/2006 22:29

You are her mentor.

MarsOnLife · 27/01/2006 22:29

Thank you!

SoupDragon · 28/01/2006 09:06

I did make this last night (had to make 2 loaf tin ones because I had liners for those and couldn't be ar$ed to line the square tin but I digress). Also added sultanas and poured of lemon syrup a la Nigella rather than icing (not an icing fan). Then ate all the raw mixture from the mixing bowl (can't put it in the diswasher with any in it obviously and then felt too sick to eat any of the cake.

I plan to freeze one in slices (because they defrost to warm and "freshly baked" in 30 seconds via the microwave!)

trice · 28/01/2006 10:33

you inspired me - I have just finished licking the bowl (best bit). I used duck eggs. I will tell you if this was a good idea in about half an hour when it is cool enough to scoff.

SoupDragon · 28/01/2006 11:09

oooooh, "duck eggs". Get you. Posh bird...

MarsOnLife · 28/01/2006 16:39

so soupy.........what's the cake like?

Also, you make your icing as thick as you like. If you're not an icing fan then simply mix a little icing sugar and drizzle

duck eggs..........oooh what's the difference pray tell? And was your cake as nice?

O)k I have now been sucked into the world of Lemon Drizzle Cake and cannot escape.

I made this today for the first time and actually ended up with 2.
So I will have to try nd eat both of them and then I will feel sick.

It is very unfair of you
arslady, to have enticed me into this world.

SoupDragon · 28/01/2006 16:45

Hmmm... it's nice and I have had a number of slices today. TBH I think it is pretty much identical to the Nigella version except that the quantities make 2 loaf shaped cakes. Which is never a bad thing in my book

Have to go to Waitrose for low fat foods now...

MrsSpoon · 11/02/2006 16:03

Yeah, finally got round to making MLLDC!!!

Very nice it was too, although despite being an icing fan I am inclined to agree with SD that the icing is best as a liquid when it comes to lemon cake. Like the fact it makes such a big quantity which is very handy if there are visitors coming round.

Thanks ML!

could anyone tell me how long to bake in fan oven??? plz??? smell nice already

Nbg · 10/03/2006 20:06

Do it for about half an hour but keep an eye on it.
When you take it out, prod it and it should bounce back.

Your going to love it. It is soooooo good Grin

divamummy · 10/03/2006 20:12

omg, its been 35 min i thought enough but its not done
i put it back again. omg omg, is it going to be ok??

Nbg · 10/03/2006 20:14

Thats ok.

Just keep a close eye on it. If it turns black and starts to smoke a little, I think it maybe slightly over done Wink

What temp have you got it on?

littlerach · 10/03/2006 20:15

Think it took almost an hour to cook.
