I normally cook from scratch, but today ds has a friend round and I have a migraine so the boys are having sausage, oven chips and frozen veg. When ds's friend has gone home, dh and I will have scampi and oven chips.

I cook from scratch about four nights a week, but never ever spend all day cooking! My usuals are spicy sausage casserole, thai curry, spanish omelette, pasta with some sort of sauce, stew or lasagne. We usually have a takeaway on a saturday and the other couple of nights we'll have supermarket tortelloni, ready made soup, quiche or frozen pizza. DH has come home from work early today and has offered to cook dinner so we are having burgers. I can't say its my favourite dinner but I am very grateful not to have to cook tonight!

liveinazoo · 02/02/2012 18:06

lentil and ginger stew and couscous

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 02/02/2012 18:07

Dd and ds had yorkshire, sausages, sweetcorn and roast potatoes.

Dh and I are having baked potatoes.

SixtyFootDoll · 02/02/2012 18:12

We had chilli, using a Schwartz spice packet.
I don't buy ready meals, but use a few sauces in jars and packet mixes as when I buy spices individually they rarely get used.

redstormrising · 02/02/2012 18:13

I mostly cook from scratch as cooking is my only real hobby, but there is too much on at work right now, so I bought ready made meatballs from the Co-op and have mixed that with jarred pasta sauce.

But usually I cook fresh, which means during the week it is mostly grilled lamb/chicken/steak with veg.

Weekends I go all out. Last weekend we had duck confit which I made from scratch- takes 3 days of fiddling. (Raymond Blanch recipe). Naturally though, the DCs prefer it when dad cooks twice a week when I am on lates and they have fish fingers and baked beans. Grin

Cook from scratch most of the time, but plan so one meals leftovers are another nights feast. If I have spent the time cooking the food I am loathe to throw left overs away.

SixtyFootDoll · 02/02/2012 18:13

I do a roast dinner at least twice a week as we all like that, do casseroles in my slow cooker and once or twice a week we have easy meals like bacon and egg or pasta

Pantah630 · 02/02/2012 18:16

Baked chicken breast with a crispy crumb, cheesy pasta and veg. From scratch but quick and easy. I normally cook from scratch but some nights it's easier to grab some frozen fish, chicken Kiev and chips and bang in the oven. We have a take away once or twice a fortnight as well. Eat out on a Sunday sometimes if we've been for a long walk. I work but love cooking so it's no hardship and helps me wind down.

ivykaty44 · 02/02/2012 18:24

smoked haddock, jacket potato and peas will be on the table later

Yes I cook it myself, I didn't catch the fish or dig up the potato or shell the peas though Grin

Chicken and veg in a spicey tomato sauce with rice. From scratch if tinned tomatoes is allowed. Kids had grated cheese on theirs.

Batch cook weekends/evenings.

We never buy takeaway as they are too unhealthy for the kids but have easy meals like baked potatoes or breaded fish with homemade wedges sometimes.

We meal plan weekly.

PregolaLola · 02/02/2012 18:49

sweet potato, chicken, leek and mushroom hotpot and peas

Almost always from scratch i have cooked since i was 14 and dad was a chef so it's just normal.

BikeRunSki · 02/02/2012 18:50

Chicken casserole, leftovers from Monday. Most meals cooked from scratch, although I often cook twice as much and freeze half or have it a few days later. Favorite cheats are shop pizza, frozen breaded/battered fish and fresh pasta.

naughtymummy · 02/02/2012 18:50

Cook from stratch maybe 3-4 nights,dh does at least 1. I do batch cook and.freeze, will have something realy easy like fish fingers or fish cakes with wedges.Tonight we had toad in the hole with brocoli, very easy. Other favourites are macoroni cheese, fajitas, roast, shepards or cottage pie, kedgeree or lasange. I tend to do time.consuming things at the weekend.tbh.

Got builders
No kitchen
Beans on toast

(thank goodness for school dinners)

I cook some things from scratch but susceptible to jar sauces and good pies. Because I have a breadmaker I make bread and pizza but quite lazy about other things.

Nothing exciting - smoked mackerel, new potatoes and salad - steak and egg instead of fish for the men.

Yes i do cook from scratch everyday - sometimes very basic like tonight other times elaborate depends how i feel.

mrspear · 02/02/2012 19:12

oh and i have a lot of one pot meals up my sleeve for looking like i have been slaving when i have been on MN

Ragwort · 02/02/2012 19:16

Left over pasta and sauce (cooked from scratch yesterday if that counts Grin) for DS and a jacket potato and salad for me and wine and crisps of course. No, I don't always cook from scratch - I don't buy 'ready meals' as I think they are over priced and not very nice anyway but I often just do very simple things like cheese, cold meats, smoked fish etc fruit and crackers. DS is more than happy with that sort of meal.

I am constantly amazed at how many of you cook 'full meals' every night Smile.

TheSkiingGardener · 02/02/2012 19:16

Spaghetti bolognaise tonight. Always cook from scratch but that includes dinner like grilled pork chop, peas and jacket potato so not necessarily a worthy effort.

simonscat · 02/02/2012 19:17

I'm having beef stroganoff and rice with a green salad. Cooked it myself a couple of weeks ago and froze a few extra portions so tonight I just need to heat it up.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 02/02/2012 19:21

tonight we had heinz tomato soup and ham rolls because i COULDN'T be arsed. Grin
