I'm making homemade turkey and parmesan burgers with spinach salad. I cook from scratch most nights but have a takeaway once a fortnight on a saturday.

Sluttybuttons · 02/02/2012 16:53

Tonight is takeaway night as dd has after school things. Normally i do cook from scratch though

FreakoidOrganisoid · 02/02/2012 16:54

Tonight is chicken, leek and wensleydale pasta

Mixture of meals from scratch and cheats eg jarred pasta sauce or packet casserole mix sometimes, other times I make my own.

I do like to get myself a 'posh' ready meal sometimes when I don't have the dc though Grin

maddiemostmerry · 02/02/2012 16:54

Fish cakes, chips and peas. I don't count this as cooking, it'd just heating up.

If I am going to cook, then it will be from scratch. That doesn't happen every day, but it is something enjoy doing.

lou33 · 02/02/2012 16:58

pan fried chicken and pancetta in white wine, and i cook from scratch about 95% of the time, plus bake snacks like brownies , sausage rolls, scotch eggs, most days as well

eandh · 02/02/2012 16:59

beef stew and dumplingserved in a huge yorkshire pudding (thats homemade). Dumplings were home made not by me though...my great uncle makes the best dumplings and I freeze them) everything in is the slow cooker ready for 7pm Grin

Methe · 02/02/2012 17:03

Sausages casserole out of a packet with onion tomato celery and a leek that i rescued from the back of the fridge thrown in for good measure.

Mashed potato that I havent even bothered to peel.

peas.

I usually cook good food but i'm 7 weeks pregnant and I just want to go to bed + it's payday monday, the cupboards are looking a bit sparse.

BlackCatTryingToFly · 02/02/2012 17:04

Edith That's more like what I do. (fish cakes etc)

I think I really need to get my cook books out and choose some things to cook.Blush

i am going to eandh's for dinner

jenpetronus · 02/02/2012 17:06

Lamb tagine & cous cous tonight (homemade)
Like most others, I usually make everything but do resort to back-up (we're in France and a guilty pleasure is a coolbox full of Waitrose ready meals when we're in the UK for a visit)

Laquitar · 02/02/2012 17:06

Tonight we are having our favourite: pasta/salmon/red pesto. So i'm only boiling the pasta with some frozen peas and put the salmon fillets in the oven. No, i'm not making the pesto Grin.

I use ready pastes i.e. pesto, corma but not ready sauces (too costy and i don't like the taste), frozen chopped onion, garlic puree, left overs from freezer, tinned sardines, ready pastry, tinned pulses.

AuntingCarse · 02/02/2012 17:10

Tonight DD3 and I are having tuna steaks on the griddle that have been marinating in a soy/sesame/garlic muddle, with some sushi rice and steamed bok choi in oyster sauce.

Tomorrow it's these Middle Eastern chicken kebabs that I saw on a programme last night. They looked so delicious I went straight out to buy the chicken to get it marinating overnight. Which it is now doing.

I always cook from scratch, I love cooking with a passion and can happily spend hours prepping and cooking and eating .

Doing a 24hr pork belly for Sunday evening and really rather looking forward to the crackling alone Grin.

Saturday suppers are generally a throw it in the pot sort of affair, have a pile of veg to use up, so likely to be soup of some description.

Jamdoughnutfiend · 02/02/2012 17:10

Italian sausages with polenta, red cabbage and green beans.

I cook from scratch most weeknights. I love it, and am always trying new recipes.
I also don't work so have plenty of time.

Batch cook & freeze mains for a fortnight at a time so we currently have a choice between Shepherd's Pie, Spag bog, bean chilli, Fish Pie, Steak & Onion Pie, and Macaroni cheese. I enjoy cooking and like to take time over it but there just isn't any time after work.

I cook veggies/prepare soup or salad fresh each night to go with it as that only takes minutes.

pchick · 02/02/2012 17:22

I'm impressed by how many people cook from scratch, and how often.

Most nights there is fresh veg but the 'meat' portion can vary.. Sometimes its chicken, fish, chops etc, other times its bread-crumbed fish or a pasty. Most weekends we do a roast. I use jar pasta sauces for convenience.

inmysparetime · 02/02/2012 17:26

We cook from scratch most days, on Wednesday DS cooks from scratch, and on Thursday (tonight) the DCs eat whatever they can scavenge from the cupboard like because me and DH have date night. We eat after the kids have gone to bed. Tonight it's lasagneSmile

OhyouBadBadkitten · 02/02/2012 17:27

Turkey and gravy from freezer
sweetcorn from freezer
mashed potato
courgette

We have been eating up freezer food this past couple of weeks so a couple of days ago we had a third of a game pie, some pigs in blankets and some stuffing with veg!

I try to cook from scratch usually but cook in bulk quite a lot so at times when I cant cook there is usually something I can defrost.

Beanbagz · 02/02/2012 17:35

I cook from scratch most nights because i find it helps me relax at the end of a busy day. Not bread though - that an occasional weekend luxury.

Tonight however we're having pasta & tomato sauce with peas and sweetcorn as i've been out on a school trip all day and haven't got round to shopping. Better get organised tomorrow as MIL is coming for dinner!

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 02/02/2012 17:41

tonight it's linguine, with garlic, creme fraiche, smoked salmon and lemon.
we mostly eat home made food, but I cook double at weekends, so it's often something from the freezer. the rest of the time it's 10 minute wonders like tonight. and once weekly it's eggs/beans/hoops/mushrooms on toast. toast night is everyone's favourite night Grin.

losttheflickumdickumagain · 02/02/2012 17:44

I've got a beef casserole in the slow cooker. Ds1 will not be happy when it's plonked in front of him. I'm never keen on casseroles/stews to be honest, I might make ds1 and myself some chips to go with it, and just have lots of gravy. Dh , ds2 and dd can eat healthy (apart from I may have overdone the wine in it Grin)
