I love reading these. A real window into the lives of others. I also get ideas which can often be in short supply when providing for the hordes week in week out no?

Friday: Lamb casseroled with pearl barley and carrots.
Saturday: DH and I are going out to dinner with friends. The DC have asked to order a pizza with their sitter.
Sunday: Ham cooked in coke, potato gratin and peas.
Monday: Chicken and (leftover) ham pie with salad.
Tuesday: Fishcakes with beans (baked for DC, green for DH and I).
Wednesday : Greek pork shoulder ie cubed and casseroled in tomatoes, red wine and oregano with rice and salad.
Thursday: DD eating tea at school before a performance. DS and I will eat out and meet DH there.

I also have a celeriac and will make soup. Maybe we'll eat for Saturday lunch or staters on Sunday.

Its list writing day again here as we are getting a delivery to make the most of the sainsburys £10 off first delivery when you spend £50 voucher I got at the supermarket.

stressedHEmum · 02/02/2012 14:23

slow braised cabbage pasta

1 onion, chopped
bit of chopped garlic

cook in a mixture of butter and oil until onion is transparent and softened. Add

1 head of cabbage finely shredded
1tblspn smoked paprika
salt and pepper

Stir around until the cabbage is coated in the oil and butter and is beginning to wilt. Reduce heat to very low and cover. Cook for at least 2 hours, very slowly, stirring occasionally to make sure that there is no sticking. (I usually do mine for about 21/2 to 3 hours.)

Cook a bag of pasta according to pack instructions. Just before pasta is ready, stir a carton of sour cream into cabbage and heat through. Add a good splash of the pasta water to make it a little bit looser and more saucy. Stir cabbage into cooked, drained cabbage and serve.

This is very plain but very delicious. It's a big favourite with the kids in here, they always ask for more.

Next week

Saturday: Mac and cheese, cauli and carrots
Sunday: Chilli with cornbread
Monday: Sweet potato quesadillas
Tuesday: Potato soup, crusty bread, apple crumble and custard
Wednesday: Sausage and bean bake, wedges

Bookmarking my place as I plan to start meal planning next Monday - good ideas on here!

MitchieInge · 02/02/2012 23:42

Want to ask a very stupid question about meal plans - how do you know you will fancy spag bol on Tuesday (or whatever) or do you just make a list of meals and then choose the one you want on any given day?

Sixer · 03/02/2012 00:24

Today : Pork loins and veg
Friday : Hardcore curry for DH and me. Hamburgers and oven fries for DC
Sat : Proper full on Chilli for DH and me. Tuna and pasta for DC
Sun : Family roast
Mon : Spanish Chicken and Chorizo in slow cooker with veg
Tue : Pasta and creamy tuna/sweetcorn
Wed : Kievs, Jackets and salad
Thur :H/M lasagna (guess how many veg type)

Standbys/change of mind
sausage and mash + veg
Fish in sauce + veg
leek and bacon risotto
Corn beef hash (up to date version)

All meals are planned and bought depending on what the DC are doing re: after school sports etc. If DH decides out of the blue he'd like to cook something different at the weekend for us..... he has to go and buy it, and cook it
!

BettyBathroom · 03/02/2012 06:59

I only ever plan 6 meals a week, saves on waste - on the 7th day there is always leftovers/eating out/bottom of the fridge meals etc. And I don't assign meals to days, I find that a bit too restrictive.

Student pie with coleslaw & sugar snap peas
Pizza - Marguerita; pine nuts, capers, red onion & sultanas & chilli; Roquefort & pear
Broccoli Orecchiette
Minestone
Pea Thoran and rice
Haddock & Chips with peas.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 03/02/2012 07:04

I'm doing slimming world so our meals are based around that:
F: sausage and root veg casserole
S: meatballs in a roast veg sauce, salad
Sunday: sweet chilli chicken with roast veg
M: lentil pie
T: lamb and spinach curry
W: Singapore vermicelli
T: quorn sausage and bean casserole

Taffeta · 03/02/2012 11:00

Mitchie - I put on the plan what day is what meal, but dependent on sell by dates/CBA/what we fancy/curve balls I swap the days around. This happens most weeks.
