I never meal plan - I just go to Tescos and buy a shedload of food

starlover · 17/01/2006 11:39

i look in my cupboard and think, ooh i'll have that tonight. then i make it

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 17/01/2006 11:39

we just look and see whats in the kitchen, or do a quick run down to the local supermarket to pick up what we need. We usually buy a selection of meats and sauces when we shop and alwayas have pasta, rice and potatoes in the house so there is always something to cook.

If i find myself planning meals ahead, I buy the stuff then change my mind and it gets wasted.

I suppose we do meal plan on a rough basis. But it isn't the same 'plan' every week.

tracyk · 17/01/2006 11:39

Always have eggs, bread, cheese, butter, fish fingers, savoury rice and black pudding in cupboard/freezer so that if you have nothing else then you have enough not to starve!
I am fed up of meal planning, buying stuff, not wanting x on a certain night and tossing out a whole load of food come Friday!

Enid · 17/01/2006 11:40

i havent done it this week

and am playing by ear every day - its a pain

had lovely "ready meal" last night:

M and S mash with M and S ratatouille and a piece of cod fillet dredged with flour and pan fried

yummy and the nearest dh will get to a ready meal

Beetrootfultoyourself · 17/01/2006 11:40

starlover · 17/01/2006 11:40

i have long running list of recipes in head

and decide when at work then go to butcherst etc at lunchtime

starlover · 17/01/2006 11:41

i can't be arsed with figuring out what to cook each night and going out and buying the stuff...

just get a load of things and then make it up day by day.

Similar to tracyk in that always have some failsafes to hand, but think I should plan more as sometimes end up throwing some food away (eggs past date, veg gone bendy) which I think is a Bad Thing.

Enid · 17/01/2006 11:42

yes he did know, saw the boxes

frowned but admitted it was tasty [tone of voice disapproving though]

Yes - I decide on the day at some stage - and can always nip into the local shop if necessary on the way to nursery or school.

Also, if dh is in his office he goes to Sainsburys for a sarnie at lunchtime and will pick up stuff whilst he's in there, so teh plan often changes then
