What does your child eat that children are not 'meant' to like?

Ds (2.9) loves olives, stilton, brie, goat's cheese, Indian takeaways, and he and his dad are currently working their way through a jar of Grey Poupon mustard.

I can't bear most of those and wouldn't have touched any of them as a child, along with many other hated things. How did I end up with a child that was so adventurous?

ds1 (6) - hummus, salmon, trout, cous cous, christmas cake, mince pies, bran flakes, broccoli, mange tout, green beans, most fruit

ds2 (4) - b*gger all! lol

BROWNY · 16/01/2006 19:15

My ds1 now 6 loves SPROUTS!!! Honestly!!! He was begging for them on Friday at Tesco's - VERY STRANGE LITTLE BOY!!

My dd2, 8 loves pilchards - YUK.

They all adore vegetables and garlic in anything!!

CaptainDippy · 16/01/2006 19:31

DD1 LOVES fruit - and I mean all fruit - passion fruit, prunes, figs, pineapple papaya, kiwi, persimmon - you name it - Yummy nappies. Honest!!

jessikart · 17/01/2006 00:05

DS (1 year today!) was leaping out of his high chair to get to Daddy's dinner one night, so we handed over a spring onion, expecting lots of 'yuk' and spitting.

He munched his way through the whole thing, and then requested more.

noddyholder · 17/01/2006 12:09

SnowmAngeliz · 17/01/2006 12:11

Am VERY proud to say, dd1 loves fruit and seriously strong cheddar.

DD2 is only 10 months and loves cheese too. She eats anything at the moment, lob=ng may it last, no chicken dipper is passing her lips for as long as i can get away with,

carly82 · 17/01/2006 12:13

raw mushrooms and brocolli together

hornbag · 17/01/2006 12:21

Both DS and DD love all fruit and veg -can't get enough of it!

DD (6) loves pickled gherkins, olives, capers, all fish (even with the head on!), various salami-type meats (DP is part German)

DS (18m) has yet to refuse to eat anything really, in fact hes a mini-eating machine

Turquoise · 17/01/2006 12:27

Sushi, taramasalata, smoked fish.
Ds also likes stinky cheese, hot curries, wasabi, and spinach.

Laura032004 · 17/01/2006 12:30

Fish from tins - he will eat it straight out of the tin by itself! Sardines, pilchards, tuna (I like that too though), mackerel. It makes me retch to see him sometimes, esp now I'm pg!

lucy5 · 17/01/2006 12:31

dd loves really mature cheddar and salami. She also loves calamari and lentil stew.

nailpolish · 17/01/2006 12:34

my dd1 lives on pasta and brocolli and brussel sprouts

breakfast lunch and tea

intergalacticwalrus · 17/01/2006 12:44

DS (13 months) loves

olives
humous
sprouts
broccoli
smoked salmon
lentil curry

Dinosaur · 17/01/2006 12:45

I suspect that a lot of these things are loved by kids (mine included) because they're very salty...

heavenis · 17/01/2006 12:54

Ds 1 (6) Any vegtable. Give him his dinner and he eats all the veg firsts and asks for more. Extra strong mints, sweet chilli sensations.

Ds 2 (2.11) Sweet FA

dh gave dd (18 months) a bit of toast with a huuuge blob of marmite on it expecting her to screw her face up and spit it out - he thinks this is funny

But she loved it and tried to steal the rest of his breakfast

saadia · 17/01/2006 13:31

Mine like Bavarian smoked cheese (high salt content unfortunately).

Clary · 17/01/2006 13:57

ds2 (2) loves olives, dd (4) loves cabbage and sprouts and ds1 (6) likes spicy stuff like samosas. All 3 like fruit cake which always causes surprise (not sure why - most children like cake and dried fruit). I think it's a bit of a myth that all children only like very bland food, tho supertasters must be a different matter (I clearly don't have any lol)

TinyGang · 17/01/2006 13:58

Olives
English Mustard
Lemons (especially when fished out of a G&T)
Kale

Rhubarb · 17/01/2006 14:01

Olives with mine too, both of them. Also cucumbers for dd and celery. Ds loves meat, the chewier the better! Hot or cold!

Rhubarb · 17/01/2006 14:02

Oh and garlic, they love garlic!
