What does your child eat that children are not 'meant' to like?

Ds (2.9) loves olives, stilton, brie, goat's cheese, Indian takeaways, and he and his dad are currently working their way through a jar of Grey Poupon mustard.

I can't bear most of those and wouldn't have touched any of them as a child, along with many other hated things. How did I end up with a child that was so adventurous?

Dd eats anything. Things she has particularly enjoyed to our amazement are asparagus, hot curry, sprouts, parsnips, cucumber. Makes a change from her brother who eats pasta.

Blossomhill · 14/01/2006 19:57

sardines/pilchards
spinach
any fruit

popsycalindisguise · 14/01/2006 19:57

houmous, cucumber (it's very juicy like sweeties apparently)

Frizbetheexpansionset · 14/01/2006 19:59

Anything spicey, both of them!! and one is only 2......

IlanaK · 14/01/2006 19:59

How interesting - I thought my kids were the only ones who loved brocolli. They eat tonnes of the stuff!

Furball · 14/01/2006 20:03

Sprouts, parsnips and blue cheese - If asked what his favourite food is he says 'Sprouts and Parsnips'

Weatherwax · 14/01/2006 20:03

dd2 (4) Sprouts, salad (leaves, cabbsge, tomatoes, peper, cucumber etc), broccoli, extra strong cheddar cheese, anything that sends her sister (7) running for the hills, every fruit ever put in front of her or the same room even, etc.

dd1 used to eat things like broccoli, home made pasta sauces, rasberries but doesn't believe me when I tell her as she runs away. I do hope dd2 doesn't copy her!

Spidermama · 14/01/2006 20:08

My dd has been known to beg for more kale.

edodgy · 14/01/2006 20:15

Olives, Cabbage, sprouts, Feta cheese, palmesan cheese, curry, houmous, guacamole, beetroot.

Bozza · 14/01/2006 20:25

Ilana most children I know like brocolli - which is great.

Mine like:
brocolli
cabbage
spinach (DD only)
korma and tikka masala (home made and take away)
huge chunks of cucumber (DS only)
dipping finger into tub of Marigold and licking like Mummy (DD only because DS hasn't spotted me)

At the local Italian on New Year's Eve, given the option of pizza or pasta DS chose vegetable risotto for them to share at.

PeachyClair · 14/01/2006 20:31

I think kids will often surprise us with their taste if given the chance (not ALL I know, any more than all adults- FIL lived for 25 years on fry up and roast alternated). Cabbage is a fave of mine, and the kids alike.

I took DS1 and 2 out to choose a birthday cake a week ago (one each, they share a party). I offered Madagascar, spidey, thomas, hedgehog, football, batman- they chose a carrot cake and a toffee cake, no nasty colouring in sight! Assistants were and I was

harpsichordcarrier · 14/01/2006 20:46

DD (4yrs) loves eating salami in any form. Paprika salami at the moment.

harpsichordcarrier · 14/01/2006 20:55

dd1 also ate quite a bit of chinese food but spat out seaweed shouting "grass mummy! grass!!!!!"

Mercy · 14/01/2006 20:56
