I have been not so secretly hankering after one for ages, and dh has offered to buy me one for christmas. But it is lots of money and I need to be sure, will I really like it?

Anyone who has a kitchenaid, can you tell me how fab it is?

Thanks.

shopalot oh I am weeping for you, mean dh you have there, does he not realise the kind of issues you may have with torture of this kind

mine was out the box immediately and in use about half an hour later !!!

FryingNemo · 17/12/2011 20:34

I am dropping extremely heavy hints about the ice cream maker for my kitchenaid. Is it worth it?

shopalot · 17/12/2011 21:48

I have waited over three years to get one, another week is fine!!!!! Will be hard Christmas day as we will be at my parents so won't be able to try it out straight away. That may be torture......

Figgyrollsintoapudding · 17/12/2011 21:51

I have the pale blue one, would have so gone for the lilac colour though if they had had it then. I got it and never really used it, but I now use it so much its silly - and have asked for the glass bowl for xmas. and a new paddle................ it is superb

cairnterrier · 17/12/2011 21:55

I have a much beloved bright red kitchen aid. Over this weekend it has helped me make: chocolate rum truffles, mashed potatoes for 12, son's birthday cake and I can't remember what else.

I love mine.

Am just going to check out the accessories options now ..........

Blatherskite · 17/12/2011 22:03

I adore mine and use it all the time. It had to be white though as DH got me the Classic rather than the Artisan.

It was my 30th birthday present so I can't complain.

I'm still dropping hints about an Artisan for my 40th though Wink

Every nice kitchen needs a kitchenaid. Fact. Even if you don't cook you need one as you can mash potatoes with it and make the most beautiful cakes and bread with very little skill (voice of experience here). Do it. You know you want to.

peaky123 · 18/12/2011 08:17

after much umming and ahhhing i went for the kmix instead! (stronger motor and bigger bowl) Absolutely love it and use it all the time. Need try making bread with it though.
All mixers great for stroking and drooling over kitchen porn stylee, or even using. (if you have to)

Just get one woman, think of it as a kitchen handbag! I would have one in every colour if I could............often think of ebaying mine to swap for another colour!!

No, it doesn't do it all for you.

You still have to buy ingredients, and know which ingredients to put with other things, and maybe even weigh them.

For you Shiney it will be beautiful but useless. It will be a sad KichenAid, unable to fulfil its purpose in life.

Started to type kitchenaid into google and only got as far as kitche when the full name came up!

I would love one but I have the kenwood mixer my granny had all through my childhood and I think of baking with her every time I use it. Must be over 40 years old

VivaLeBeaver · 18/12/2011 11:57

Can someone list what you use them for apart from cake mixing.? I had no idea they could do ice-cream as well.

TheTinselsTheWrongColour · 18/12/2011 12:33

you can make pasta,sausages,chop,shred stuff,ice cream,mashed pots,pastry,fit a can opener to it,strain stuff,make bread

Angelswings · 18/12/2011 12:39

But you can buy ready made
Pasta
Sausages
Ice-cream
Mash
Pastry
Bread!

How does it strain better than a sieve?

I'm asking as I will need answers on the tip of my tounge when DH asks the a question but can't we just....

VivaLeBeaver · 18/12/2011 12:42

Life is too short to make pasta or sausages, ditto pastry.
I have an ice cream maker and a bread maker.

They do look lovely but I fear if I got one it would be a pretty ornament.

TheTinselsTheWrongColour · 18/12/2011 12:44

laughing at angel, yes you can buy ready made but it tastes so much better when you make them yourself (even if it takes all fecking day a wee bit longer )

I don't have the strainer one

and tell the dh how much better you will all be eating, pure fresh cooked food from your own fair hand.I convinced my dh to get one and now he loves it just as much,I come home from work to another of his creations and then get really cross as he has not wiped it properly and congratulate him on his expertise whilst secretly grateful that it's a job off my list :o

sybiltherednosedreindeer · 18/12/2011 12:52

I am going to choose one right now. I predict there will be much dithering and angst over the colour choice and that I will stroke every one.

Wish me luck.

I am soooo tempted. Where are you going to buy from if you don't mind me asking?

ToxicMoxie · 18/12/2011 16:06

I love mine, I've had it for about 13 years and bought it refurbished. Never had any trouble. I have the stainless one that is fixed and the bowl lifts to the mixer. It's totally awesome. I use it alot to make bread...

haddock1976 · 18/12/2011 16:08

Love mine, best wedding present. Candy Apple red, used today to make bread and bits currently in dishwasher.

Didn't know about the ice-cream bowl more kitchen toys Is it too late to add it to my Christmas list? Grin

sybiltherednosedreindeer · 18/12/2011 19:37

I have returned!

They were all lovely but I went with the ice blue because I loved it as soon as I saw it. Sadly they had sold out of all the attachments but after this thread dh is very keen on the ice cream maker.
