SNF - cheat? How? Anyone can make a white sauce, anyone!

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 25/07/2011 23:19

And what's wrong with your GULIT? Is it the Homepride Sauces what's uneased it?

SecretNutellaFix · 25/07/2011 23:23

that is why I like the fresh tubs on the supermarket bella Blush

My white sauces usually end up lumpy.

Valpollicella · 25/07/2011 23:24

Yep, I think a tablespoon would make my catsbummouth apprear with the sheer drying power Grin

White sauce is easy Bella!

Melt butter. Slowly whisk in flour until it makes a doughy ball.

Then start to add milk (veeeerrry slowly) and stir. It will take a while but it will become a thick liquid again. Keep adding some milk along with a bay leaf and cheese...voila...yum

Valpollicella · 25/07/2011 23:25

SNF, you need to slow it down...they end up lumpy if you add milk too quickly

bellavita · 25/07/2011 23:26

Val, yes I know how to make a white sauce! I am my mothers daughter!

Annunziata · 25/07/2011 23:26

Try putting in a little of the pasta water to the sauce mix to help it smooth.

bellavita · 25/07/2011 23:27

I was just wondering how SNF could cheat when making a sauce from scratch is easy peasy.

Annunziata · 25/07/2011 23:27

I do use a tablespoon though, I just checked Blush A level one!

Valpollicella · 25/07/2011 23:27

Apols, Bella Blush That was supposed to be to SNF...

bellavita · 25/07/2011 23:30

S'alright tis late.

SecretNutellaFix · 25/07/2011 23:30

I was never shown how to make a white sauce- I had to learn about it from books.

TragicallyHip · 25/07/2011 23:33

Has Masterchef not taught you anything??? Tut tut..

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 25/07/2011 23:34

SNF you could do this Delia one - it's so easy and absolutely foolproof.

Valpollicella · 25/07/2011 23:35

Yeah, it is one of the more random ones to be taught SNF. But honestly, tiiiiny bits of milk at a time. Whatever you think is a small it, halve it, then stir that in. And then keep going!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 26/07/2011 12:55

Hoi!

The smaprika ref was to show you I do cook properlike.

Grin

Thank you to those with kind and normal suggestions. Now, can I just put these saices over raw parsta and bake the fecking thing?

Xiaoxiong · 26/07/2011 14:37

Not over raw - parboiled, IME.

I love baked ziti with meatballs. So shoot me.

Xiaoxiong · 26/07/2011 14:52

Oh and also if you make it with a white/cheese sauce it's nice to spread breadcrumbs mixed with melted butter on top, and if you make it with tomato sauce (a la baked ziti above) you should top with cheese, like you would with lasagna.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 26/07/2011 20:11

I make a hawiian pasta bake on our skint days Grin it involves passata, onions, sweetcorn, tinned pineapple, ham, pasta & cheese!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 26/07/2011 20:25

Tyelp, that zit dish sounds lovely.

A little bit like a baked Jool's Pregnant Parsta.

Thanks for the link.

I used to make a pasta bake that was mincemeat, onion and peppers cooked then add 1 tin condensed tomato soup and a good dollop of cream cheese. Stir till all melted, mix in cooked pasta turn into baking dish and sprinkle top with breadcrumbs and parmesan. Bake till top is crispy.

Haven't made it for ages now DCs have grown up but it is gorgeous.
