KFC - do you think this could be true?

Just received this email:

KFC has been a part of our American traditions formany years. Manypeople, day in and day out, eat at KFC religiously. Do they really know what they are eating? During a recent study of KFC done at the University of New Hampshire, they found some very upsetting facts.

First of all, has
anybody noticed that just recently, the company has changed theirname? Kentucky Fried Chicken has become KFC. Does anybody know why? We thought the real reason was because of the "FRIED" foodissue. IT'SNOT!

The reason why they call it KFC is because they cannot use the word chicken anymore.

Why? KFC does not use real chickens. They actually use genetically manipulated organisms. These so called"chickens" are kept alive by tubes inserted into their bodies to pumpblood and nutrients throughout their structure.

They have no beaks, no feathers, and no feet. Their bone structure is dramatically shrunk to get moremeat out of them. This is great for KFC. Because they do not have to payso much for their production costs. There is no more plucking of the feathers or the removal of the beaks and feet.

The government has told them to change all of their menus so they do not say chicken anywhere. If you lookclosely you will notice this. Listen to their commercials, Iguarantee you will not see or hear the word chicken. I find this matter to bevery disturbing.

I hope people will start to realize this and letother people know. Please forward thismessage to as many people as you can. Together we make KFC start using real chicken again.

NomDePlume · 28/11/2005 11:19

I don't know for sure but I reckon it's prob one of those hoaxes

Tinker · 28/11/2005 11:19

Urban myth

nikcola · 28/11/2005 11:19

Zephyrcat · 28/11/2005 11:20

Wouldn't be surpised - kfc chicken is absolutely disgusting!!!

marthamoo · 28/11/2005 11:20

I don't think KFC is particullary good quelity chicken but, as for the rest, what a pile of cack!

Someone has been reading too much sci-fi, methinks

LilacBump · 28/11/2005 11:20

KFC is a terrible company, notorious for the way they treat the chickens. peta website about it

marthamoo · 28/11/2005 11:20

Don't know what happened to my spelling there - except it's blimmin cold in here (and it's snowing, whoo-hoo!)

Tinker · 28/11/2005 11:21

here we go Still sh*t "food" though.

BROWNY · 28/11/2005 11:22

I did hear though, that the chickens are kept in very bad condition, no room to move and never see daylight

Fireworks · 28/11/2005 11:23

I doubt they are that scrupulous about their chicken supplies, prob just the bare legal minimum, but think that this email is one big nasty hoax.
I reckon MacDonalds probably started it.....

NomDePlume · 28/11/2005 11:24

Like all battery chickens/cheapo 'value' chickens available in supermarkets, browny. KFC are far from the only ones intensively rearing chicken in cruel and ways.

Tamba · 28/11/2005 11:26

yuk!

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 28/11/2005 11:35

rubbish

the reason they changed their name to KFC was that the old boy (Colonel Saunders - you know, the old geezer on the signs with the dodgy bow tie thing) went tits up and they were then free to change the name to something a little more modern.

DH thinks I must be the only person in the West never to have tried KFC

sweetkitty · 29/11/2005 13:00

Most supermarket chicken and chicken from places like KFC is from broiler house chickens, from hatching the chickens are raised for approx 12 weeks in huge sheds packed with chickens, they spend all their lives in there being fed and watered until the whole shed is shipped out for slaughtering. They are supposed to have room to run about but their numbers are so dense that this rarely happens.

Having been in these places it's very sad and also scary the whole floor is moving chickens and it does stink.

Farmers are forced to raise chickens like this as the price of chicken meat is so cheap and they are competing against countries in the far East which produce chicken very cheaply.

I think it is far cheaper to raise chickens like this than these organisms kept alive by tubes!!!

misdee · 29/11/2005 13:01

One of Peters friends reakons he saw the mutant chickens, i maintain he was off his head on drugs.

munz · 29/11/2005 13:07

my butcher was tellin me that those battery chickens/turkeys are rasied on 26 p per day apparenlty (I was moaning that from him the turkey is £2perlb in stead of the £1 odd in the shop) he recons u can't raise a good bird on that amount.

call me blonde but if battery chickens are typically greyer in colour how do KFC keep their chicken so white?

PeachyPlumFairy · 29/11/2005 13:07

Their chicken keeping is crap (a friends family had them as a contract whilst i was growing up) but FGS!!!!!

Bit like the story about the friend of someones brother (hmm isn't it always) who died when they ate a cyst in a Miss Millie Burger.

Despite burger in question being minced chicken.

FGS!!!!

smellymelly · 29/11/2005 13:32

Munz - kfc chicken is grey though

munz · 29/11/2005 13:35

is it - shows u the notice I take lol - I normally eat the breast part only - don't like the legs/wings.

I wonder if mac's and BK use the same sort of chickens then?

Frostythesurfmum · 29/11/2005 13:36

I'd love to hear Moondog's opinion of KFC .
