.. and i don't mean the crappy standard ones. i mean the finest ones ever. i was always partial to tesco 'finest' and sainsbury 'taste the diff' but someone last year recommended the next step up on the posh scale to 'Duchy Originals' which i've bought but haven't tucked into yet.

which are the very very best in your opinions?

I normally quite like M&S ones or Waitrose, but am novice at mince pies (experience to date: 11 years, @ about 12 mince pies a year on average)

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 24/11/2005 11:30

frenchgirl - i admire and appreciate your calculation. are you an accountant like me?

OP posts:
FrenchKissUnderMistletoeGirl · 24/11/2005 11:32

FrenchKissUnderMistletoeGirl · 24/11/2005 11:34

what's your take on M&S ones then?

you are a one man panel, that's quite an achievement, isn't your dw a pie appreciater?

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 24/11/2005 11:39

nope, she hates the mince pie.

i haven't tried m&s yet but i'm going to pick some up next time i'm around.

I admire your single mindedness

flashingnose · 24/11/2005 11:41

How has a thread about mince pies got 109 posts?? Is there something I'm missing?

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 24/11/2005 11:46

i'm proud of my single mindedness . i think its a strong characteristic.

I had a Greggs mince pie recently (am a big fan of Greggs despite it's pikey reputation, and have conducted a similar experiment to this with Eccles Cakes, which Greggs won hands down, but then thy discontinuted them ). Verdict was the the pastry was lush bit a bit stingey on the filling. But I do LOVE pastry so I can just about forgive them that.

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 24/11/2005 12:12

very nice review penny. it has been noted and will be entered in the 'best pie UK daddycool challenge - 2005' with the rest

SD, daaarrrrling one can't get too snobby-@rsed about one's mince pies.

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 24/11/2005 12:16

... but instead of taking a bit and swishing it round my mouth and spitting it out, i inhale it straight into my fat bulging gut

OP posts:
FrenchKissUnderMistletoeGirl · 24/11/2005 12:16

soupy!!!!

and there are no french mince pies to make me feel superior or under attack

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 24/11/2005 12:17

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 24/11/2005 13:46

i thought cro-magnons (sp?) killed off the neanderthals about 20,000 years ago? ... when really, they waited for the glacier to melt and legged it up to the north of england.
