So... What are the best mince pies?

.. and i don't mean the crappy standard ones. i mean the finest ones ever. i was always partial to tesco 'finest' and sainsbury 'taste the diff' but someone last year recommended the next step up on the posh scale to 'Duchy Originals' which i've bought but haven't tucked into yet.

My dad loves them and has always said that my moms mince pies are the best. They divorced about 15 yrs ago and have never spoken since, so I always have to try and smuggle him a few.

Taste Test (23.11.05): i was intitially angry as they looked identical to sainsbaggers 'taste the diff' but once i cut into them with the edge of my fork, i realised that the pastry was superior. the filling was nice but little bland.

Verdict: It was indeed a fine pie but not worth the extra cash. these bad boys cost double the finest/taste the diff making them ridiculously expensive.

ASDA are the best according to Good Housekeeping

ASDA's are 'on order' with my other colleague from coventry who lives near one. she's bringing them in tomorrow.

pip - i gorge myself on mince pies from november to january and then stop abruptly at the end of Jan and don't touch them until the following november. it's kind of a tradition.

uh oh! i offended my colleague by saying that i was surprised that ASDA's were voted best because i think ASDA is a bit northern and lower class
