I am fed up of being made to feel like a bad mother...

on MN. Most of the time I oove it but recently there have been far too many gasps and rolling eyes (well if we could see each others eyes that is).

Yes - I breastfed and will do again
I use disposable nappies
I used a mixture of homemade food and jars when weaning
I have a freezer with readymeals in it as well as home made meals
My kids have crisps and biscuits

I will never use washable nappies (I have a life)
I will never breastfeed and my bottle fed kids are healthier than some kids I know who were breastfed until they were 2.5. My kids have no allergies at all and that includes ezcema, asthma etc.

Please - give us mums who choose alternative ways a break and stop all this goody 2 shoes attitude with people. there is no need to look down your noses. Not everyone has time to spend washing nappies and cooking all day. Some of us have full time jobs, school runs, house to keep, dancing and swimming lessons, and some people don't take to breastfeeding. If powder milk was so bad they wouldn't sell it!

Please stop making people feel so judged (not all of MN is like this but there are a select few!)

serendipity are you coming to the xmas doo? your very welcome

Enid · 25/10/2005 14:02

hmmm not sure whether I'm a lentil weaver or a burger off the pegger

assume lentil weaver. Yes mumsnet is a source of entertainment to me but also advice as believe it or not I sometimes run into a brick wall with my parenting/life, shocking I know.

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 25/10/2005 14:06

the thing is though: the original poster didn't help by basically slagging off the "other side" in her post - accusing them of not having a life, looking down their noses, being judgemental, goody 2 shoes.
not helpful.
and thereby turning it into another us and them thing (which it isn't, I mean we're people not stereotypes and we make decisions about nappies, food, work, bf whatever based on all sorts of complex reasons and not because we are lentil weavers or whatever).
an artificial debate. which got a bit nasty.
and yes I come here for advice AND for entertainment, BUT when I want advice I want the proper stuff, not some mealy mouthed nonsense which is what people think I want to hear. seriously, what would be the point of that? I do hope people are not afraid to say what they really think.
politely, natch.

SpookySerendipity · 25/10/2005 14:07

I thought the deadline had passed Custy?
I did think about it but
A) not sure we have the spare cash atm
B) am a coward and i only know 1 or 2 mumnetters in RL

hunkerpumpkin · 25/10/2005 14:10

And at least I didn't change my name to something offensive to start that thread...

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 25/10/2005 14:12

you alright hunker? sounds like a Bad Day

hunkerpumpkin · 25/10/2005 14:13

Tis a shit day. But don't go feeling sorry for me or I'll cry. More.

goody2shoes · 25/10/2005 14:13

I feel my mantle is falling as my children have gone to Pizza Hut for lunch

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 25/10/2005 14:15

would you like me to send you some internet hugs? I am pretty sure I can do it without vomitting. much.
or some virtual biscuits?

hunkerpumpkin · 25/10/2005 14:17

LOL! No, I'll be fine, honest. Just got to sleep rather than worry about things and not to slip getting out of the bath

Blu · 25/10/2005 14:19

The reason I 'contributed' a post on Hunkers thread was because I do feel (aaaaah!) that one of things (amongst others) that skews serious conversation and debate on MN is a tendency for people to take things personally very quickly, and when they are not intended that way. I saw H's thread generally about that - or piss-taking against all of us (myself included) who get worked up and aereated about the way we feel.

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 25/10/2005 14:20

thank god, bit worried about the hugs tbh. maybe you need one of those walk in baths for the infirm that you get in the back of Sunday supplements?

Tortington · 25/10/2005 14:20

sorry your having a shitty day hunker - sorry if i said anythng to help with the shittyness.

serendipity - do come. no one knows anyone. and everyone thinks they will be in a corner not speaking to anyone - well there aren't that many corners. so come.

hunkerpumpkin · 25/10/2005 14:20

Blu, that was how it was intended, as was the ill-advised nappy one I started shortly after that just served to upset people.

I'm a wanker.

hunkerpumpkin · 25/10/2005 14:21

Walk-in bath sounds like a good idea in principle, but you'd have to sit while it filled up, then remember not to open the door before it was empty. I'd just flood the bathroom. Or die of frostbite while it emptied.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 25/10/2005 14:23

I feel my mantle is falling as my children have gone to Pizza Hut for lunch

Fallen ?? Fallen ?? pretty well shot at I would say

hunkerpumpkin · 25/10/2005 14:23

Custy, for some reason I want to say "Aw, shucks" now and shuffle my feet.

Don't worry - am just struggling to survive on four hours' broken sleep in the past two days - am happy happy joy joy really. OK, I'm lying. But I can't start a "help me I'm feeling really shitty" thread today of all days, can I now?

SpookySerendipity · 25/10/2005 14:25

where are the details Custy? i know there was a thread somehwhere about it. Thanks for the invite, i think i might well come after all-I'll have to talk to dp and check he doesn't mind paying for it first tho!

Blu · 25/10/2005 14:26

Oh well I contributed to the nappy one, too. It was obviously a joke and you are not even using any g**mn nappeos anyway unless you are incontinent or have started a new trend of introducing nappies to the unborn!

People could take a bit of responsibility for getting their sense of humours serviced regularly, to avoid breakdown. Couldn't they?

Tortington · 25/10/2005 14:29

xmas doo thread serendipity

moondog · 25/10/2005 14:31

Reading again,I don't even understand the very first post anyway...

If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

(Sorry ,you're having a bad day Hunker!
CSounds as mine-high point of the week has been going out to buy aloaf of bread lol!)

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 25/10/2005 14:33

blu, lol. yes indeed. your sense of humour is YOUR responsibility. nothing more miserable than a malfunctioning one, is what I say.
Hunker, have you any idea HOW tempted I am to start a thread entitled "deposit hugs and snuggles here for hunker"??

will power

hunkerpumpkin · 25/10/2005 14:36

PMSL at "deposit"

MD...hope it was organic loaf kneaded on the knees of hippies
