I know there are loads of sites out there on the internet but I would appreciate some recommendations on the best slow cooker recipes/tips.

ok, am getting tomorrow - you've convinced me!!!

kiwibella · 08/10/2010 20:45

I want to put some beef in mine tomorrow. Can anyone share their variations on a beef stew?

lizziemun · 08/10/2010 21:34

Yes, I did a shoulder of lamb last weekend.

I just put a layer of potatoes (about an inch thick) then the lamb added enough water to come about half way up the lamb.

suiledonne · 08/10/2010 21:39

Thanks to this thread I ordered a slow cooker a couple of weeks ago. Last weekend I made a pork casseroley thing with pork chops, veg and smoked paprika. It was fantastic! Pity I can't remember exactly what I put in it Sad The next time I try it will be probably be awful.

NormaSknockers · 09/10/2010 08:04

kiwi I cheat & use a Colmans casserole mix & just chuck in some veggies with the beef & leave on low for 6-8 hours Grin

The chicken & bacon I cooked yesterday was just lovely, the broth was absolutely gorgeous too. Definately going to make it again!

Liskey · 09/10/2010 09:48

I made the lamb shanks curry yesterday - it was lovely - even convinved Dh that the slow cooker was worth buying.

kiwibella · 09/10/2010 10:56

thanks Norma, I just happen to have one of those packets! I'll look back through for your chicken and bacon suggestion too, sounds deelish.

NormaSknockers · 09/10/2010 12:20

I bought a 6.5 morphy Richards due to this thread today:) going to do bologonase tomorrow just to start off easy but am not sure about how much to make..the recipe in the booklet says I need 1kg of mince due to the size of the cooker but I only have 500g as that is how much I normally used...is this a problem ? Will I also have to make big quantities?

futurity · 16/10/2010 19:42

Oops..should of read will I always have to make big quantities

ladyandthechocolate · 16/10/2010 21:14

Ooh, can I add a lovely recipe I make in mine for lamb tagine? It didn't sound too appealing to me before I made it for the first time but it was gorgeous and DD loved it too. Didn't brown the lamb first and reduced the quantity of dates plus the sweet potato needed quite a time to cook.

just bought the cookworks one from Argos after the bottom fell out of my old one .....overuse !

TheCrunchyside · 18/10/2010 12:25

really want a slow cooker after reading thi thread and have a birthday coming up. only prob is that dh is a bit health and safety mad and is worried by it being on all day while we're out.

Are they safe? has anybody ever had one catch fire or smoke the whole house out?

AngelDog · 22/10/2010 20:04

Does anyone know if you can use frozen veg with a casserole / roasting a joint?

I want to do a joint of pork with frozen casserole stewpack veg. Should I defrost them first? Confused

TheCrunchySide, Wikipedia suggests that spills of hot food are the main hazard.

BumptiousandBustly · 26/10/2010 14:06

I have got chicken thighs with Spanish sausage cooking at the moment, it smells so lovely I can hardly wait until supper to taste it! YUM!

NoseyNooNoo · 28/10/2010 17:09

Yum, chicken and spanish sausage!!!

I'm thinking of getting the Morphy Richards Flavour Savour that is sold by Lakeland - does anyone have an experience of this one?

I've wasted spent quite a bit of time on that 'A Year of Slow Cooking' blog in anticipation...

BumptiousandBustly · 28/10/2010 18:37

Nosey noo noo, I just bought a £20 morphy richards from argos - its been WONDERFUL. You have to brown the meat before hand and cook the onions but thats it - and the Chicken with spanish sausage was great, as was the lamb tangine I did yesterday!

NormaSknockers · 30/10/2010 08:55

NoseyNooNoo I just bought a half price MR from Argos, I honestly don't think you need a fancy one. I know a few people with the £7 Asda one & it's been great.

Bumptious that sounds lovely have you got a recipe?

I made sausages with proper, made from scratch, onion gravy the other day & it was absolutely gorgeous!

Can't decide what to do today, I have sausages so something with them would be good [thoughtful]
