I know there are loads of sites out there on the internet but I would appreciate some recommendations on the best slow cooker recipes/tips.

Thanks norma, will go for the 6.5 and see how we get on, shame about the gammon, just started a big slim :-)

deemented · 25/09/2010 07:20

Yes, baked beans!

chimchar · 25/09/2010 08:00

norma...silly question. do you put the pasta in uncooked? i,m guessing that there needs to be enough liquid in there to cover it...

silly question number 2...if we're all dishing out recipies on here, would it matter what size cooker each of us has?

i thank you.

NormaSknockers · 25/09/2010 08:53

chim yes pop it in uncooked, give it a good mix & make sure it's well covered & leave it half an hour & it's cooked to perfection :)

No, it shouldn't matter on the size of the SC too much, only that some people will be able to get more meat in then others.

Dee I shall be trying that recipe either tomorrow or Monday, sounds lovely Grin

HerMomminess · 25/09/2010 08:57

this book is lovely. Tiny and a variation on each recipe. So far all been a success. Also gives advice re cooking times/filling up/how to adjust recipes. Based on Morphy Richards 3.5 which is what I got anyway. Woke up this morning too scrummy lamb rogan josh-wont have it for breakfast...promise Blush

I add a bit more liq too joints like lamb shoulder etc. Makes for nice sauce with rice/mash/baby.

Links are great!

I cant live without mine- made return to work much easier!

HerMomminess · 25/09/2010 08:57

when i sai dtiny meant compact and doesnt bulk up recipe book collection. Yet 200 recipes!

NormaSknockers · 25/09/2010 09:00

That looks a good one HM & a good price too! I keep looking at this one there's an entire library of them for the SC so might get a few of them.

HerMomminess · 25/09/2010 10:14

looks good. One I got has got nearly 100 reviews and rated just higher than other book mentioned earlier. I think something to get you going is all you need. Examples of recipes it has include: cola ham, kasmiri butter chicken, lamb curry; chickpea soups/casseroles;spag bol;chilli (for the latter two i have just kept my own recipes but adjusted liquids)

just realised not enough space in freezer for all the food i have / am cooking...oh dear!

HerMomminess · 25/09/2010 11:42

also:tesco do frozen beef/lamb cubes (not sure how orgnaic etc)But it is cooked STRAIGHT FROM FREEZER? As in chuck in with veg/liquids/switch on and you're offf. Great standby meal.Only recently discovered it and good flavour.

Also: if your butchers do their own meatballs just add chopped tom/onions/veg/red wine and instant pasta & meatballs.

NormaSknockers · 25/09/2010 12:14

I find a lot of these recipe books are to 'faffy' I just want to find a good recipe book that has good, hearty family meals in.

I'd be too nervous to cook meat from frozen as it states in my manual that all meat needs to be thouroughly defrosted.

mummylin I made your dumplings again the other day - mmmmmmmm yummy Grin

I now own three slowcookers!!

I went to a car boot sale this morning and found a little 1l SC for just £2!! Currently in the dishwasher and am planning chocolate fondue etc Grin

Currently have a bit of beef brisket cooking in my big sc, have chucked it in with two tins of french onion soup, which i'm planning on turning into a gravy. Can't wait for dinnertime!!

OnlyWantsOne · 26/09/2010 18:25

we have sausage casserole (and ive just put the dumplings in) YUMMMM

meat balls sound delicsious

deemented · 27/09/2010 07:34

Mince and dumplings tonight, as requested by the manshape!

Followed by chocolate fruit fondue..

NormaSknockers · 27/09/2010 07:50

Grin Dee, love it! Tell me more about the fondue....

We had pork casserole & dumplings last too, DH isn't usually keen on casserole but he went back for a second helping & polished it off [shock Grin

I've ordered that book that HM linked to as it had some good family recipes in it so looking forward to trialing those.

I want to make your pork chop recipe Dee but need to get some chopped toms :)

OnlyWantsOne · 27/09/2010 10:06

Going to make the sweet potatoe chilli today :)

frazzledblob · 27/09/2010 17:02

It has been a very good few days here. Beef casserole and sausage casserole enjoyed by the family.

They loved the chocolate fudge pudding - no left overs for the next day!

Banana bread got a bit overcooked on the bottom but it was yummy. Bit like xmas pudding as I put lots of sultanas in. It was lovely with hot custard especially as its got chilly here.

Tell me more about chocolate fondue Smile

deemented · 27/09/2010 17:46

Chocolate fondue...

Put some chocolate (Choc chips, broken up dairy milk - anything you fancy) in a small slowcooker - if you only have a big one you can use a small ovenproof bowl placed inside slowcooker, add a good bit of double cream and leave for an hour or so on high to melt together.

Use wooden skewers to dip strawberries, bananas, marshmallows ect in. Yummity.

NormaSknockers · 28/09/2010 11:06

Mmmmmmmmmmm I like the sound of that!

NormaSknockers · 29/09/2010 18:20

I did meatballs in mine today & there were absolutely bloody lovely!

My name is Norma & I am addicted to my Slow Cooker....

deemented · 29/09/2010 20:32

Ohhh... recipe please?

NormaSknockers · 29/09/2010 20:47

I just used 500g of extra lean beef, mixed that together with 2 slices of bread that I'd blitzed into breadcrumbs & some herbs. Rolled that into about 19 meatballs, browned in the frying pan then popped them in the slow cooker with 2 jars of garlic & tomato pasta sauce (I was going to use chopped toms & passata but I've run out of passata!) on low for 6 hours & it was gorgeous, the sauce tasted soooooo nice & the meatballs were melt in the mouth!

deemented · 29/09/2010 20:55

Did you use an egg to bind the meatballs at all? They sound yummity and i want to try them this weekend!

NormaSknockers · 29/09/2010 21:03

Nope, browning them off first was enough to bind them :) It really was delicious & extra lean beef can be a bit bland sometimes but these were soooooo nice!

deemented · 29/09/2010 21:07

Ohh.... i'm going to get the mince out of the freezer tonight, i think!
