yes there IS

what's NOT to like about it (if you are a woman or a gay man)

It's just FABULOUS

And I kept wanting to cry, inexplicably

Has anyone seen the film who's seen it on stage? I loved the stage version, just wondered how the film compares.

morningpaper · 30/07/2008 17:00

hmmm I like a man in a pink shirt TBH

What I liked about it was that it was all the good parts of Grease and High School Musical but without the obscenity of Grease or the sheer boredom of HSM

SNoraWotzThat · 30/07/2008 21:00

Thought I would hate it, but LOVED it
Made me cry and thought Pierce was looking hot

Maybe I liked it because I backpacked around Greece in my younger years and brought back some memories.

Dc's not so bothered and preferred Hairspray.

SNoraWotzThat · 30/07/2008 23:44

Where can I buy an ABBA outfit?

Sidge · 31/07/2008 11:08

Saw this last night.

Hated the first 20 minutes but it grew on me
and I actually got quite emotional during 'Slipping through my Fingers' (I have 3 girls - sniff).

I adore Abba and found the karaoke-ish renditions rather cringey but switch your brain off for a couple of hours and enjoy

bagsforlife · 02/08/2008 10:08

Went to see it last night, was marginally dreading it thinking would be cringeworthy BUT was fantastic!! Found it absolutely hilarious and obviously the cast had a hysterical time filming it. Beautiful scenery, although how Meryl Streep ran up all those steps to the wedding and wasn't even out of breath.....Very good and highly recommended for cynical women of a certain age (ie me). Haven't laughed so much (and did cry during the 'Slipping through your fingers'...legacy of having DD on other side of world)for ages, although several glasses of Pinot Grigio before show probably helped. May have to go and see it again sober to see if I find it quite such fun.

pinkteddy · 02/08/2008 20:04

Saw it last night too, it was absolutely fab! Glad I wasn't the only one to blub all the way through 'slipping through my fingers' too. lilolilmanchester, I have seen the stage show twice and was slightly worried that it wouldn't live up to it, but it did - it stuck mainly to the script but added a couple of extra hilarious bits and also you've got the benefit of the glorious scenery so definitely go!

mosschops30 · 03/08/2008 18:34

I saw it yesterday with my mum and dd who absolutely loved it.
I spent most of it cringing, Meryl Streep has the worst voice eva, especially the winner takes it all which almost made my ears bleed.
The only one with the good voice was the daughter.

But a nice film, with a nice story ....singing was bloody awful though, from everyone.
Whoever said Meryl Streep can sing really needs their hearing tested

littleboo · 03/08/2008 18:45

fab film, singing dreadful, but somehow that makes it better, no airbrushing and hidden vocals at all. Loved it all, great at the end with Waterloo when the men appeared in costume. So many songs that they missed out though! would love to see it again.Went with my 12 year old and she loved it too

SlartyBartFast · 03/08/2008 22:56

dd wanted to see it, neither of us realised (der) it was a musical with abba!
greeat
clapping at the end here too,
and me tearful from the start!
winner takes it all was fantastic.

shame about the "gay" colin firth!

SlartyBartFast · 03/08/2008 22:56

dd was cryign at the end cos she "needed a wee"

BellaLasagne · 04/08/2008 09:23

I saw it last night, and was the sad one on her own, singing her head off at the end!

I loved it. I thought Meryl Streep was brilliant, obviously loved doing it and thought she could hold a song, even though she's a pretty average singer. What made her singing so good is that she sings from the heart and can really convey the emotion of the words because she's a brilliant actress, as we all know. (I also blubbed at Slipping through my fingers!)

Personally, I thought it was such a shame there wasn't more of Colin Firth, although Pierce certainly supplied sufficient eye candy.

I'll definitely take my DD (9) to see it as I know she'll love it.

mears · 08/08/2008 19:30

Going for 4th time tonight. How sad is that
