Clearly I’ll be ahead of the pack …

I’m seeing it on Saturday!! So excited

glassof · 05/03/2026 15:58

My dh was on the construction team for the build, can't wait to see it! And his name on the credits!

Perfidia · 05/03/2026 16:27

Now, that is exciting! I’ll stay until the lights come on so I can report that I’ve seen his name, @glassof.

(I would anyway; don’t want to be like the people who left at the start of the ‘Sinners’ credits. 🤨 The end credits of ‘The Testament of Ann Lee’ were so cunningly arranged that everyone in the auditorium sat in complete silence until they were over. It was quite something.)

Well done to your DH, @glassof - what we saw on screen was considerably better than the actual story, which was simple to the point of being silly.

I did not enjoy the directing, which required all the stars to considerately display their handsome profiles to the audience at all too regular intervals. Seemed unnecessary and slowed down the action.

Also, for some reason, although there was plenty of ‘crowd’, I felt they economised somewhat on main characters - which is perhaps part of why the story felt thin.

I slightly fear for Bond.

And, while it was mildly enjoyable, I cannot think this film will trouble the Oscar nominators much next year.

Just seen with DH and we both really enjoyed it. Not quite the heights of season 1 and 2 but nearly there and great to be back in that world. God cillian Murphy is so mesmerising he lifts the whole thing.

Middlemarch123 · 14/03/2026 20:12

I’m so looking forward to seeing this on Netflix.

Cillian Murphy rides again as Tommy Shelby…all my Christmas’s and birthdays coming at once. It’s the cheekbones and those eyes…swoon.

Perfidia · 14/03/2026 20:22

Oh, of course - that’s why no one’s going to see it on a big screen.

I’ve just remembered that Cillian Murphy comes on before the film starts and warns viewers not to give spoilers before the Netflix showing …

I thought the son was abysmally cast and the story a bit far fetched to be honest. However, watching Cillian Murphy for 2 hours is no hardship!

mrsogrady · 15/03/2026 20:09

Saw it a few days ago. Felt like an extended TV episode rather than a film to me and enjoyable as such, elements a bit silly but it romps along. Sets up for a new TV series in due course, presumably the BBC will show it before that starts to allow everyone to get up to speed?

Perfidia · 15/03/2026 20:18

I found it rather simplistic compared to the TV series. And every character behaved in an entirely predictable way, so there was no surprise and nothing to get your teeth into.

Superficial, I guess is what I’m saying!

I went to see it this weekend. I agree with pp, a bit simplistic and true to form. Didn’t seem to have the clever twists I recall from the TV series, but great to see the continuity, I also didn’t like the casting of Duke.

I would dearly love to discuss the ending, if anyone is up for that? Feel like the thread needs a spoiler alert in the title to be able to do so though.

WafflePlusWord · 15/03/2026 23:51

Thought it was okay. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it!

ThatPearlkitty · 15/03/2026 23:53

I don’t think there were ever plans or announcements for another TV series.

So jealous you're going to see it tomorrow! Peaky Blinders has always been amazing and Tommy Shelby's story is just impossible to get tired of. The fact that it focuses more on Aunt Polly's world makes it even more special. Hope you enjoy it would love to hear your thoughts after!
