Has anyone watched it in the cinema. I thought it was really good! Scary movies don't usually scare me, or they are too full on so I have to hide behind my hands. In speak no evil, the constant build up of tension was so good. James McAvoys acting was amazing. Intelligent plot. Scariest film that I've seen in a while!

I loved it and I really liked the way the wife turned out to be the strong one in the US couple.

I am tempted to actually go and see it again now that I know the plot as it would be very interesting to watch it knowing a few things <trying not to do spoilers>?

I liked they changed the ending from the original.

Loved James McAvoy in it.Though did find his accent kept changing a little throughout

I've seen the original and the ending was so grim that I didn't want to watch the remake but it sounds like the ending has been changed so I may give it a go.

Oh wow!
I watched this film on Friday night and I'm still thinking about it now!

James McAvoy deserves an Oscar for his performance. Just amazing.

I think the slipping in and out of the West Country accent was intentional and indicative of the deceit. I guess Americans wouldn't notice that it s so much?

And the children were incredible actors too...the little boy!!!
So chilling at the end when McAvoy is egging him on 😱

One of the creepiest and most effective bits was when the boy was showing the photos of the families.....

If the original version was even more grisly, I'm shocked!!!

What a tense film. I thought it was really good how they gradually ratcheted up the weirdness. You realise looking back that their boundaries are constantly being tested. It certainly made me feel a bit anxious as to what point I would have drawn a line and stepped away. It’s easy to think you wouldn’t be drawn in but James McAvoy was so magnetic.

I really enjoyed this movie! A different concept for a horror/thriller. The acting was amazing.

I started feeling uneasy about the James McAvoy character really early on, when he was bullying the Danish couple at dinner. I've definitely noticed a trend for these meek men characters though in recent films (the dad of the nice family). Not sure what that's about in the world of Hollywood

Gosh I watched this last night and loved it!! The little boy was amazing. I've read the plot of the original and wow, that's a grisly ending.

Yes, you're right about the testing of their boundaries.
I think it was also about people-pleasing.
The American woman would question the English couple's behaviours, eg when the woman pulled up the little girl's manners at the table.
But she would soon back down when they fed her a story/justification.
By the end of the film you realise that it was all bullshit.

Ah I found the original on shudder on Amazon prime now.

I have to get up the bravery to watch it.

I just watched the start so far, and the bad dad looks even more scary than james mcavoy!.

Saw this last night. Loved it! Such uncomfortable viewing. The acting was fantastic from the entire cast. Brilliant.

I saw this film last night. I have an incredibly strong stomach because of life basically (yay life) but fucking hell. This is the first time I have been so unnerved by a film since I saw A Serbian Film back in 2010. That's how much it got to me.

It's also cos I've been around people like Paddy and the other antagonists. I was very very triggered but I couldn't look away.

James McAvoy is an amazing actor, but I'm going to need him to play something fluffy soon because he's broken my brain. I think I'm going to need to watch him play Mr Tumnus on repeat for a bit.

I didn't even realise this was a remake of a Danish film from 2022. It's properly done a number on my head.

I have now also seen the original Danish version that came out in 2022.

It is so much darker and I was genuinely speechless when it finished.

We thought it was really good too. Only went as there was nothing else on in the cinema, but it was a really good cinema film, felt really tense, nowhere to hide, a slow burn but kept my attention.

Also loved the strong female characters from the American wife to the young daughter essentially saving the day.

Yeah i watched the original. While it's scarier in a way, I think that the remake is better

I thought the pacing was uneven. Really good build up of tension but lost it a little in the second act. It also stretched believability a few times when they went back / stayed. I understand part of the point was the American couple's passivity but come on.

One thing I didn't get... the British couple owned this huge house on acres of ground but the American couple had a whispered conversation about why a doctor would live somewhere so cheap. Perhaps it was another way to show their naive privilege but I find it hard to believe a run of the mill doctor in the US owns a house significantly bigger than that one.

Actually, another thing I didn't get. It seemed part of the ploy was to abduct foreign children so that they wouldn't be able to communicate the truth either by speaking or writing. How was that going to work with the American girl?

I thought it was ok. I do like a good scary movie.
It ran on way too long. I had the plot more or less worked out by about half way through and I hadn't seen the trailer.

In the original they do something to stop the abducted child from speaking. Haven't seen the remake
