Sadly I didn’t get the opportunity to see this at the cinema, but caught up with it today.
I thought it was marvellous, faultless cast, beautiful cinematography, and I really felt uplifted after watching it.
Anyone else a fan?
I was so surprised not to find a thread on the subject already.

I watched it a few days ago and it was lovely! I really enjoyed it

Really enjoyed it

I’ve just watched this and was surprisingly moved by it. And the frocks 😍

iamme21 · 25/07/2024 21:42

I loved this, have watched a couple of times

MooFroo · 25/07/2024 21:44

I loved it too! A proper feel good film with a great cast and storyline - fabulous watch!

S1lverCandle · 25/07/2024 21:45

Yes, it's lovely.

GoldFrame · 25/07/2024 21:46

I’m planning a similar trip to Paris, but to buy a Hermes scarf

Mangolover123 · 25/07/2024 21:46

Lovely film

Midlifecareerchange · 25/07/2024 21:47

Yes loved it. Big fan of Lesley Manville - loved her in Mum especially

LaBelleSauvage123 · 25/07/2024 21:48

Loved it too. Lesley Manville is superb.

WGACA · 25/07/2024 21:50

I really enjoyed this. I want to watch it again now!

Elderflower14 · 25/07/2024 21:50

IMO it wasn't nearly as good as the original version with Angela Lansbury which is on YT.
Too much of the book cut out in the LM version.

Shodan · 25/07/2024 21:52

I loved it too.

Read the book decades ago and have just found out it was the first in a series of 4! I'm going to see if I can get the others.

Indiaorigin · 25/07/2024 21:54

I didn’t think it was as good as the book. I didn’t know about the Angela Lansbury that @Elderflower14 mentioned so will take a look.

Watched this a couple of evenings ago and was charmed. Delightful film and, oh goodness, the Dior dresses! 😍

Weren't they fabulous?

PeachyKeane · 25/07/2024 22:05

Gorgeous 😍 but perhaps a little unbelievable. But maybe that's just how awful people are nowadays compared to how they were then?

Anyway very beautifuly shot, gorgeous looking cast. I wish life was like this nowadays tbh.

ComealongMartha · 25/07/2024 22:05

Read the book, it’s even lovelier.

Twistybranch · 25/07/2024 22:06

Oh no! I thought the ol’ working class Londoner bit a tad hammy. When she said ‘you go girl’ I did roll my eyes.
I did love all the dresses though. Most weren't actual Dior, they were made by the costume designer and I think made on quite a cheap budget! Thought they looked fab.

GoldFrame · 25/07/2024 22:06

I did not know it was a book, far less four books. Happy days!

PeachyKeane · 25/07/2024 22:08

Yes, will definitely seek out the books. A gentler more human time in many ways.

SirChenjins · 25/07/2024 22:08

Such a lovely feel-good film! Sometimes you just need a bit of escapism where people are kind to each other - and the frocks were beautiful. I didn’t realise they weren’t real Dior @Twistybranch - that’s a vary talented costume designer.

Thewaytogohome · 25/07/2024 22:09

I enjoyed it too! I fancy watching the version with Angela Lansbury now.

Pollypocket51 · 25/07/2024 22:14

I’m glad I saw this thread. I’ve been waiting to be able to watch the film for ages! The books are lovely.

LydiaTomos · 25/07/2024 22:18

It was a lovely film to watch. I've watched it twice now.
