Anyone really looking forward to it? I’m excited, I absolutely loved the first one. Going Saturday.

Same here. DS has actually read the first three books while he's been waiting.

takemeawayagain · 29/02/2024 11:33

Yes, saw the first on Netflix and thought it was fantastic.

Mothership4two · 29/02/2024 16:49

OH and I are going to see it soon - not sure when yet. I thought the first one was good and looked great. I read the books in my late teens and loved them. I think they did well to get most of the huge amount of info onto the screen.

BigFatLiar · 29/02/2024 16:53

Yep, we'll be there. We're big sci-fi fans, going with friends, curry and a film (lunchtime curry, afternoon showing, we'd fall asleep with a later showing, perils of getting older)

Perimama · 01/03/2024 00:26

Can't go this weekend but have tickets booked for next weekend. Can't wait - looks amazing and has great reviews.

mizu · 01/03/2024 21:48

Just come back from watching with DD2. Wow! So, so good.

HereComesDecember · 01/03/2024 21:50

Watched this evening, loved it. It’s so beautifully shot.

HurdyGurdy19 · 01/03/2024 21:52

Personally, no. But my youngest son is coming home for the weekend and taking his dad to go and see it.

They have been talking about it for bloomin' months! I'll be glad once they've seen it 😂

littlbrowndog · 01/03/2024 21:53

Can’t wait

Arthurnewyorkcity · 01/03/2024 21:57

I watched the first one last night as I like the cast and only found out about it by seeing the trailer for 2. I'm clearly very thick as I couldn't work out what was going on.
That being said, hope you all enjoy no.2. Maybe I'll read the books

Parapapampam · 01/03/2024 22:15

Watched this afternoon, was fantastic, but did leave me wanting the third film now.

Speakingofdinosaurs · 01/03/2024 22:22

I’m going tomorrow night with my ‘minders’ - two big strapping sons and two equally big nephews - and me a little old lady 😂
I read the books 30 years ago and I have to say that the first film did it justice so I’m sure the second one will too.

paristotokyo · 01/03/2024 22:24

Oooh really looking forward to this! I watched the first when it first came out and rewatched on Netflix in anticipation. I've got a newborn now though so no idea when I'll be able to watch it booo

Faircastle · 01/03/2024 22:29

I thought it was really good, if anything better than the first one.
Austin Butler was amazing as Feyd.

I'm not sure how accessible Dune is to someone who is new to the whole concept and story. For example you need the historical context of the Great Revolt / machine wars in order to understand why they don't have computers or AI and therefore the spice is intrinsic to the functioning of their civilisation e.g. interstellar travel (navigators) and computing (mentats).

For those who haven't read any of the books, there are YouTube videos which provide a quick background summary.

Hateyo · 01/03/2024 22:50

Cinema should have screening for people with babies, especially if your baby sleeps.

Some Everyman Cinemas have 'baby clubs' where you can watch with a baby under 12 months. Our local one is going to do a Dune one, but they aren't sure of the date yet.

Hateyo · 01/03/2024 23:32

That’s a brilliant idea! I would have loved that when mine were tiny. Especially as breastfeeding.
I really missed the cinema when mine were tiny(couldn’t pump for toffee).

We saw it today, definitely worth seeing on the big screen, it is visually stunning. I thought it was better than the first one.

I’ve just come back from an 8pm screening and I shit you not, someone walked in with a pram. Hope the kid was wearing ear defenders!!

I don’t think that’s strictly true- I haven’t read the books, know nothing of the back story beyond what’s in the first film but I still knew what was happening. I don’t think that stuff really needs to be explained for the films to make sense.

Hateyo · 01/03/2024 23:45

I was thinking subtitles and not so loud. But I saw Dune 1 twice, second time with subtitles as I couldn’t hear the dialogue, first showing.
So excited for tomorrow afternoon now. Cinema on my own, bliss.

AngeloMysterioso · 01/03/2024 23:50

I went on my own this eve- you’re right about subtitles. But either way it’s still SO GOOD.

BigFatLiar · 02/03/2024 10:18

Still can't beet Patrick Stewart as Gurney Haleck. Still like the 80s version even if it did take liberties with/skip a lot of the story.

Workingmytickettoparadise · 02/03/2024 15:13

Well stay past the credits as apparently there is a scene afterwards ( I read about it rather than seeing it). I didn’t but I couldn’t follow it. I’m off to read the Wiki entry to make sense of it.

Hateyo · 02/03/2024 16:19

Seen it. Was amazing, so beautifully shot.
I read the books as a teenager and couldn’t remember anything.
Now can’t wait for part 3. Did think fetus was creepy.
Austin Butler was amazing but a horrible character.
