I can’t decide what I thought of this.

It just seemed like exactly the sort of thing that I would enjoy.

Rosamund Pike and Richard E Grant were brilliant. It was entertaining. I enjoyed all the references to Waugh and The Go-Between and The Talented Mr Ripley…

… but I am fairly sure that I would not watch it again. How did you find it?

I thought it was very good, not for the faint hearted though! It started to feel very ominous half way through. The acting was brilliant and the locations beautiful - I think I would probably watch it again if it came on tv.

Saw it on Saturday night and totally loved it, still buzzing. Rosamund Pike was so fantastic and I haven't laughed so much in ages. Some of the scenes were rather shocking and rather out there, but I truly adored it.

The thing it left me with was that, rather than the Great Gatsby message of rich people smashing you up and then retreating back to their money, this was the opposite. I am not sure that I have seen that before.

It was brave, but ultimately needed a bit more editing and could have done without the explanations at the end.

I think it's a good thing that films like that are still being made, and I loved Rosamund pike in it.

I'd heard the director comes from very old-money stock and that they were allowed use of the location because she has an ancestral link to it. So it's maybe not surprising it's not that critical.

I liked Promising Young Woman but I just didn't feel that drawn to this one.

Enjoyed it, but agree about a bit more editing.

@aletterfromseneca it's pretty tough on the upper classes. I think her background maybe gives her more understanding why they behave the way they do.

I've seen it and thought it was utterly chilling. Especially as my ex reminded me of the main character and my best friend turned to me at the end and said the same thing!

Deeply disturbing, beautifully shot, great cast and acting. The party scene was so atmospheric I felt as though I was there.

I found it deeply disturbing. Very well cast and beautifully filmed.

The bath tub and the grave scenes felt too long and excruciating, to the point where I had to shut my eyes. But I expect that was the whole point.

I did, too! It was like watching a horror film!

Brilliant though Barry keoghan is, he doesn't pass as a 19 year old student. I found that distracting. I liked it though.

Saw it today
Drinking the bath... I had hand overy ears andy eyes closed trying not to vomit.

O enjoyed that it wasn't the typical bad rich people thing, that goodness didn't win out, it didn't go how I expected and I like that

I thought it was excellent. Disturbing but excellent.

I really enjoyed it, laughed out loud in places and winced in others.

Loved it, I’m looking forward to seeing it again. Rosamund Pike was fabulous as was Barry Keoghan. There were quite a few laugh out loud moments and a few moments where me and my friend both said ‘oh no!’ in unison. The end scene, genius.

It was a good watch! I genuinely thought I was stepping into a gay rom com so I was a bit disappointed on that front haha. I wasn’t quite sure where the story was going and I think that’s what made me enjoy it more.

If there was a message attached to the film then that clearly went over my head. Wouldn’t watch it again though, too long for me

I saw this on Monday night and still thinking about it. There was a lot of noise from the cinema audience - out-loud laughter at some, "ewww, nooooo" at the bathtub and "vampire" and grave scenes.

I was at Oxford university at the same time as the characters and a lot of the Oxford scenes were very recognisable, although I felt EXTREMELY old when the pub where I used to drink as a student was used as the backdrop to, effectively, a period drama. (I'm only 37!)

One element that wasn't realistic though was the Barry Keoghan character as a "scholarship boy", though. Everyone at Oxford got the same student loans in 2006 as at any other university and rent and meals were heavily subsidised for everyone, so while there were obviously some extremely posh and wealthy people there who did all know each other already from boarding school and "society" events, the "he's just a scholarship boy with an Oxfam wardrobe" comment felt wrong and probably there for an American audience. (Everyone shopped in Oxfam in 2006!)

That's a minor quibble though. It certainly wasn't ever boring which is quite an achievement for a film that long. I saw the twist about his parents coming, though, and agree the explanation shots at the end weren't needed.

Also a scholarship is a positive - a bit of free money but not life changing the way the US scholarships are. Think it was £150 a year for DH.

I absolutely loved it. Yes, it was far fetched but so funny in parts,

I really enjoyed it. Brideshead Revisited is one of my favourite books so I was expecting the story to go in a different direction. It's not often that I'm totally surprised.
Rosamund Pike was fantastic. I loved her Jarvis Cocker line.
I would watch it again. There was so much going on once it moved to Saltburn that I'm sure I missed things.

I'm looking forward to watching it as I loved Promising Young Woman.

It's on Amazon Prime from this Friday!

I thought it was a bit crap! Really derivative and predictable. It didn't feel new. The odd funny moment. One friend I was with liked it, one hated it!
