Just that really?

A film that you've watched that has stayed with you and why?
Doesn't have to be a film you've ever watched again...

But recommendations welcome!

In absolutely no particular order:
Platform- the movie is a metaphor for the class system in our society, Spanish movie that's voice dubbed.

Mother- one of the best movies I've ever seen, the director sends so many messages out to the audience. Very artistic.

Serbian Film- please never watch this, it's absolutely horrifying, and anyone who has seen it knows what I'm talking about (don't judge I have an appreciation for disturbing movies)

Old Boy- Korean movie. Pretty disturbing plot twist at the end.

Pieces of a woman- amazing performance from the lead actress

Marriage Story- again for the lead performances, Adam Driver is wasted in Star Wars!

Pretty much every Tarantino movie because, well, that speaks for itself really.

Promising Young Woman- everyone should watch this movie.

I'm quite a movie buff so my list could go on forever.

I have to say Titanic as that was the first movie I watched that genuinely blew me away at such a young age, it sparked my love for movies.

Watership Down. What the hell was wrong with the nineties that that was seen as a children's film?

Doodledeedum · 08/12/2022 02:52

@ElmTree22 great list!!!

Coffeecat15 · 28/02/2023 09:06

Titanic , shutter island, the wicker man, heriditary, can't spell it. Shawshank redemption, that one with Leonardo De caprio and the bear attack. Pulp fiction , split , American psycho, leon, black swan, midsummer, resident evil , the shinning, orphan? Lol 😂

Seeing this post, the first movie that came to my mind is The Straight Story. David Lynch film. Haven't watched it in a long time, but suddenly I was reminded.

Saving Private Ryan , when the young soldier is dying on the battle field and he is calling out for his mum, haunted me for years , so bloody sad

Twins3007 · 02/03/2023 15:40

just thought of another one ,

Lion, i cried all the way through that poor little boy on the train and all those years never knew his brother had died the same night , and a true story 😥

Brokeback Mountain - sobbed at the end.

Dances with Wolves - just loved it all.

Field of Dreams - such hope.

"Knocked Up". I had a MC at 9 weeks after years ttc and I snottily sobbed my way through this at least once. But I also laughed. And have since developed an affection for the film for helping me out in a horrible situation for which there is never an easy solution.

"Up close and Personal" Robert Redford ❤ and Michelle Pfeiffer ❤.

"Babe" my daughter watched this (quite dark, sequel esp) film constantly through her preschool years til I knew both films by heart. I think they are fabulous, different movies that are heartbreaking and funny and lovely.
DD doesn't even remember them 🤨.
(Ditto The Grinch)

CODA (available on Apple TV) - beyond doubt my favourite film ever, exceptionally well written, hilariously funny and brought me to tears. It also won the best picture Oscar 2022 but thanks to Will Smith it didn't get the publicity it deserves.

Worth an Apple TV 1 month subscription for CODA alone but you can also binge Ted Lasso while you're there!

I came on here to say CODA!! Great film.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Can’t deny it’s probably something I’d do but can’t change fate

HowardKirksConscience · 08/03/2023 22:14

I’ve just read the whole thread, thanks everyone!

I wanted to add City of God. Film about life the favelas (slums) of Rio de Janeiro. Many of the actors were from the area and one said that real life there is even more horrifying than was depicted in the film.

colouringindoors · 11/03/2023 20:22

Good luck to you Leo Grande.

First film that really respects and explores 50+ women's sexuality, experiences of their relationships and bodies. Liberating. Kudos to Emma Thompson.
